Lots of parents abuse their kids by withholding food, it has nothing to do with her being a single mom except to show that's obviously for a reason. I just read an article about this story exactly, except it was a family of five with a mom and a dad and only the youngest kid was malnourished and dirty, the rest of the family ignored them. A waitress slipped the kid a note when the dad didn't order them any food and the kid asked for help.

This reminds me of my Mum (her being the waitress, that is).
After school when we were little (5-7) she would always go food shopping then take us for some hot chips, cake & lemonade at the deli next door.
One day, these kids from our school came in with their parents. They were the kids at school who were always looking unkempt. Never had socks on, dirty faces, no coats or jumpers in winter. They always had colds. One of the kids saw my brother and I having hot chips, so he meekly asked his dad if they could get some. His dad didn’t acknowledge his kid. The kid kept asking, to the point of begging. Both parents refused to acknowledge their hungry child and continued to browse the magazines.
My Mum lost it. She’d been watching this go on for weeks and had already reported it to our school. She wrapped up some hot chips in two napkins from the table and called the children over. She gave them the chips and those poor kids wolfed them down. They must’ve been starving.
The man turned around and scolded his kids for “begging”. His children looked genuinely frightened of him.
My Mum turned to the man and said “Maybe you should be a man and feed your children. Perhaps even just acknowledge they exist?”
The man scoffed and said “Excuse me?”
My Mum stood up and glared at him for ages then said “You f*cking heard me”
The man and his wife scuttled out of the shop. I think the kids were placed with their grandparents soon after that.
I always think back to that moment in the deli where no one didn’t anything but my Mum. She taught me to notice things to do with mistreatment and standing up for people who need it.
She’s a tough lady but has a heart of gold.

As a server.. I have waited on people who have clearly abused/abusing their child/children. I know one lady who was extremely overweight would bring her toddler son who was underweight in the restaurant. She would order her food & nothing for him. She would proceed to throw food at him, hit & yell while the boy screamed a particular pained scream I’ll never forget. I would beg not to serve them for how bad my cptsd would get while serving them. It was nothing against the little boy. I’d be stuck waiting on them EVERY time they came in. They’d leave me nothing & complain I wasn’t giving good service. I would give them the same service I gave everyone else (which I think is good service). I haven’t worked at that particular location in almost a year so I haven’t had to wait on them. The location I’m at now has a lot of homeless, druggies, prostitute & so forth that will occasionally wonder in. They will all cause a scene if they don’t get their way (not being able to throw drinks, flash people in the parking lot, beg for money outside, hide in the bathrooms/shoot up/od in bathrooms, get a John at the bar & so on..boy it get wild)

That sounds like something some people where I grew up would do. My moms friend was watching me and my brother one night. They were having steak and the smell of the food was making me hungry. I told her I was hungry and she told me my mom said I already ate and I wasn't getting anything. I was offered no snacks or anything. I don't think she even asked me if I wanted anything to drink. I was like 6 at the time. I just closed my eyes on the floor and fell asleep. I woke up in my bed the next morning.

And that David Peltzer turned out to be such a wonderful man AND father speaks deeply of his resilience and strength.
If not for that cop listening to him and believing him things might have ended up with the tragedy of David losing his life.
Once he became an adult, and met his wife, he solidly vowed to never bring that horror to his own. After his wife gave birth to their son, they took turns waking up to tend to him. One night David slept through his son crying, his wife reached over and shook him awake. She said to David, "Honey wake up, the baby is crying". David says he lost it. He turned to her and questioned what she said, when she repeated her jumped up and became enraged yelling at her, "THE BABY HAS A NAME!! USE HIS NAME!!". He ranted for a few more minutes and his wife was able to calm him down. He profusely apologized, of course she understood though. Never was any child of his to be referred to as "it" while in the womb, or "The Baby" after birth. That's was his one non-negotiable. Always, always refer to his child/children by their names. I cried so hard at that, I cannot bring myself to refer to anybody's baby by anything other than their name. Even strangers, I'll ask, "what name did you give your son/daughter?" I love the word BABY, it's an adorable word, but after learning that about David Peltzer, I cannot bring myself to refer to any person's infant by anything other than his or her name.
That man's life story changed me forever in how I reference people.
You cannot read that book, or the subsequent books he wrote, and not be left deeply touched.
I feel a kinship with you because you've read it. That's how strongly David's books touched me.

As a mother of 3 I could never let a child go hungry. But if I saw this, I'd definitely be going to jail after dealing with her.

@@dlewis895 Criminal protection service. They would be siding with this mother and making excuses for her instead.

The boy looks highly terrified and the man in the kitchen doesn't care.

Children are a gift from God. Love them, give them proper guidance and they'll grow up strong and into great adults. All my children were loved including the ones that were adopted. They are all good citizens and love their children. Help a child

I dealt with a woman like this on a plane this year, she wasn’t abusive to her kids as far as I know, but had the same delusions as her. She picked a fight over me throughout the whole flight without giving me a reason, calling me names and saying she was superior than me. At a point she gets up to talk to the flight attendants to “get my name and get me arrested” and a friend of hers turns to me and starts to apologize saying she has a mental problem. The thing is... people like this exist, and they are let free to roam around causing trouble to others and not getting the necessary treatment

I let my kids eat before me, even when we didn't have much at the time. It was hard, but they needed food more than me.

I don't know what that feels like since I don"t have kids of my own, but if I did have kids I would do the same thing in letting my kids eat big before me.
I'm like that with my young nieces and nephews in making sure that they eat before me.

What kind of mother gives her child a hard boiled egg on his birthday the kid looks hungry and for a person to not feed him actual dinner that’s just selfish and cruel.

I hate parents who abuse their kids with a passion, don’t have kids if you don’t want them or not going to care for them properly. They didn’t ask to be born
