I really wish it WAS a completely identical showcase, and that the second dude gave the exact same big, giving them a tie, which might have had both players win Dx
The only issue with this is what if somebody won a double showcase. Would the winner got 2 trips to Mexico, 2 trips to Rome and 2 trucks along with the Mini Cooper?
It's aged well, too. I just re-watched the whole series over the past few months - a lot of sitcoms and movies haven't, but all the jokes are about food and drink, or the rat race, or dating, so it's held up.
I’m confused. I’ve never seen two identical showcases, middle aged men as the showgirls... with two contestants with the same name lol. Good thing they threw in the extra car... otherwise I would have bid one dollar above the other guy lol
Only if the second Pat knew the first Pat had drastically underbid, which he did. Then he could try to overbid on his second car and add that to the first Pat's bid to partially cancel out his underbid, then he wins. But the second Pat was way, way off on the price of the second car, so he screwed it up. If the first Pat had only underbid by a little, the second Pat could only afford to be a little over on the second car and couldn't be under at all if he was to start with the first Pat's bid.
I remember this old trick. Even if both showcase are the same, Mimi fools us thinking the first showcase was better. We were all wong. On the 2nd showcase, Mimi puts a extra something which worth a lot. The lesson we need to learn here is to always think twice before making a decision. If the first showcase does have a car, the 2nd showcase might have something better or worst. Anyway, Detective KIDS got us again :)
Having everyone be called Pat was actually pretty cool, before I knew the Pat thing was part of the April Fools, I seriously thought you were both actually called Pat and I loved that quote Drew made before he revealed the prices of the showcases “The Winner is Pat!” lol!
Wonder if pat number two would have bid the same amount before they added the Mini. I was thinking that is awesome, I would just bid the same thing so both of us could win.
if they were really going all Pat they missed an opportunity to get Julia Sweeney. Yeah yeah what does she have to do with this back in the 90s she created and played a character called Pat on a sketch called It's Pat.
That skinny guy sliding around pointing at the prizes is strange.Reminds me of one of those guys at malls, passing out facial wash and oolong tea samples.
Not that I wouldn’t take a free vehicle but they always have the smallest, base model vehicles - the ones that you are still surprised if they have power windows.
Really doesn't matter, they still have to pay taxes on the value of the prizes. Most of them just sell or take the cash value to get the after tax difference.
I’ve heard you have the option of just taking a cash payout for the total (or maybe a fraction) of the prizes you’ve won directly from the game shows since many may not have the means to pay the taxes on larger items won. Any truth to that?
O'Family On the Move Not on Price. They will occasionally pay cash value for certain prizes if the prize becomes unobtainable (they’re not shipped until the show Airs) but it’s their choice, not yours. Trips must be taken by the winner, and cannot be given away or sold. Additionally, there’s a time frame on the trips and you have to pay taxes up front. More trips are declined than any other prize for that reason.
The Pat on the left knew immediately he lost when they said the Pat on the right showcase's price, unless new Mini Coopers sell for less than $6,049. Anyway, TPIR couldn't have two of the exact showcases. If they did that, then the contestants could bid like they do for prizes to get them on stage, with one twist. If the second contestant was convinced the first contestant under-bid by a long shot, either just bid one dollar more, or do what they can't do to get on stage: Bid the same price. Both would win because they tied.
I'm guessing they gave all the contestants the fake name Pat. But one thing to mention when they're actually taping the show (as I've been in the audience a couple times), is that when they call a contestant to come on down, they also hold up a cue card with the contestant's name for the audience to see (as the audience can be rather loud). So I'm assuming when they called one of the "Pats" from the audience, they held up a cue card with the contestant's actual name so they'd know who was being called down.
I’m guessing this was something that decided on the fly. I’ve always been of the opinion that the don’t film episodes start to finish, but break them up so that they can do multiple recording of the same set without changing. (Do several episodes worth of the individual contests, then spin the wheel for several episodes worth, THEN do the final showcase for several episodes. Doing that would save a lot of time not having to move the major set pieces back and forth from storage
The producers pick people based on personality and answers asked during pre show interviews. The show is shot one episode after another. Probably about 10 a day. Responding to the person below you.
@@erichargrove2287 Not like 10 a day....these aren't shows that can be done like that ala Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy, between the different audiences and all the work that goes into staging the games and what not. At most they do like 3 a day. No more than that.
I wonder if the producers did this just for the contestants to pay attention. I think by the time the winners get to this part, they just zone out. Out of pure excitement, I’m sure I would!!! Ha.
Probably both trips, the truck, the car, AND then a check for the value of the other two trips and the truck. (You do have the option for just the cash value of a prize, of course you’d still have to pay taxes on either.)
Is there a record for winning a showcase with the largest difference in price? Has anyone ever won when their bid was half of the actual value? (Example: I bid $12000, the actual price was $24000, but I win with a difference of $12000 because the other contestant's bid was worse or went over)
kepler240 I actually imagine in an April fools episode of the price is right, Pat Sajak and Vanna White Jim Thornton take over, while Drew Carey, Rachel Reynolds, George Gray, Manuela, Amber Lancaster, James O Halloren, and Devin, take over in an April fools episode of wheel of fortune.

Maybe Sajak Will Guest Host Jeopardy Again After Trebek's Passing 😥
@@bengibson3298 I think Pat Sajak's retiring soon
Yep and every contestant was named Pat
That second bid was painful to watch, the bidder was basically saying that convertible was under $15k.
But they were saying the minicouper was more expensive than the pickup truck. That is outrageous.
I thought the same thing…my bid in my head was 60k😂
No, he almost bid $1, thinking the other guy overbid on his.
He was doomed.
Two guys named Pat bidding on identical showcases. An event that can only be conceived in The Twilight Zone

Yes. This was one time when some real strategy was possible in bidding on the second showcase!
Thought that too, 5 years later. Patt II didn't clue in.
Only if the second Pat knew the first Pat had drastically underbid, which he did. Then he could try to overbid on his second car and add that to the first Pat's bid to partially cancel out his underbid, then he wins.
