The US Merchant Marine was at war long before Congress declared war on Japan. Also, thank you for explaining why the US Merchant Marine lost so many men and ships in the North Atlantic. Admiral Ernest King was the reason the Navy failed to do it's job.
The Germans give me happy times just about everytime I fish off AC,NJ. The majority of the wrecks I fish were sent there by the u boats. I can literally hit 4 within 1 trip all just a few miles apart. The wahoo in my profile picture was caught near the San Jose which was sunk by a u boat. I also have been lucky enough to dive a u boat off Barnegat Light 4xs and it's absolutely incredible
Interesting and informative with some very atmospheric images. May I offer two points? 1) There was no radar in the First World War which you imply there was and 2) The US Air Force became independent after the end of WW2. Until then it was the Army Air Force.
I've toured a US WWII submarine and it was big compared to a U-boat, even a type IX, but still cramped beyond reason. Half an hour in that coat closet was enough for me. I don't see how 40-60 guys could go out in one of those and cross an ocean, spend time on station, and return across an ocean again, while packed in like sardines. Das Boot doesn't do it justice; a real sub had no room for a camera crew. So I understand why it was called the Happy Times, but even without the danger of being attacked, it wouldn't have been a happy time for me on that boat.
Can you make a video on U boat Commander Werner Hertesteisn of the incident that took place "Laconia's Incident"? I am writing a novel from a german perspective it's a U boat story. AAnd your videos are very helpful for my novel's information. I'm writing this novel because I was inspired by Laconia's Incident. and I really admire the U boat commander.
@@HiddenHistoryYT Thank you so much. Cant wait for the video I'm sure its going to be a great one. i like the way you narrate the stories. its very clear informative and easy to understand. You are doing amazing work.
