I read an excellent book on one U-Boot about this. Great read, forget the name. The boat attacked off Australia and NZ.

Yes. The book is about the U 862 and the patrol off the coast of Australia and New Zealand. There was the sinking of a US liberty ship, the Peter Silvester. The commander was Heinrich Timms. The author is David Stevens. I still have the book on my bookshelf
