I have a new (8 yr) old GSD who basically knows nothing. Tom, your video today has given me the perfect starting point to begin basics with her. Thank you! Today’s video was perfectly timed for me!
I just rescued a hyper little girl. She's a pit terrier mix and let me tell ya... She was left outside to live and God knows what else happend to the poor baby... Anywho she's horrible with my cats. And my cats are and have already been around my other dogs and my German shepherd that passed at 14 years old. My Lucy girl has had no training it's clear so your videos are becoming such a big hope and I'm hoping she can and that I'm able to do this!! Thank you for giving us hope
Patience and consistency and hope will do wonders. You're saving a life by adopting a rescue. We just recently adopted a rescue dog and it's one day at a time but she's already learning to decompress.
I just got a German Sharpard. I love to use your videos to help train her. We're 3 days in and she is doing great. I'm not perfect but I'm impressed with how great she is, she's a rescue and I wasn't sure if she'd take to me... we'll I have to say she's already my best friend now we just have to fine tune her training
My daughter has just adopted a little dog amd he looks so much like that little dog in this video Ive been following Tom and Will Atherton for many years so im in charge of training the nrw dog 😁 so this video is just perfect for me Thanks Tom❤
Thanks for so much information and for explaining it so well. I'm still teaching my 10 year old corgi mix a few behaviors because she does have a stubborn streak. She seems to learn quickly so I'm hopeful.
Thanks for that video! I have friends who a looking for pointers to train their dog and I was wandering which one of your older videos to recommend to them. This one has all of the important part for training that I wanted to show them ❤
I wish I knew your channel 14 years ago. This video covers everything what I failed at her training. Luckily she is a good dog so I didn’t have problem but we never succeeded recall. Now we adopted 5 yo puppy mill rescue who is so fearful. I need to teach her basic commands but every movement I make she gets scared. I know she needs more time but I don’t know when or what to start.
My only issue with my dog, immediately a border collie, so I understand the breed. I had one I had to put down this time last year. She was 16 and never attacked my cats. I also had a bonded chow that I had to put down in May, she was also 16 and lived the cats. But Merlin, he just turned 5 on the 5th of January.
Thank you Tom for another great video ❤ lol the challange with my dog is he's huge and my house is tiny so it makes it hard to do such training inside for the lack of space, and the outside is getting him over threshold really fast. but we are trying!
Hi Tom. Just got a 3 month female Australian Shepherd puppy and I'm so thankful for your videos. She's relatively well behaved to begin with but I really do appreciate your approach to training and I'm learning quite a bit. Any plans on coming to California this year?
Love your video, I have a puppy since last month she’s gonna be 4 months in February, I’m wondering any tip on how to put her leash without being bitten? She tries always to bite me while putting her leash, so I ended up taking her without it and it happy with that as she never answers the recall
Good morning, Tom☕️ I seriously don’t know why anyone would follow any other trainer. You are so clear, concise and easy to follow. Well done! 👏🏻👏🏻. Happy New Year 🥳2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣4️⃣
@juliafiore120, even though we like a trainer (like we do with Tom), we cannot be fundamentalists. We can learn other ways and use them if appropriate.
Love your instruction. Do you have any videos on training your dog to run. My son wants to start running with our 7 month old lab in the spring. He will be closer to a year. I’m thinking it will be similar to walking. Our dog needs to run at my son’s pace. Tips for getting started would be super helpful.
I am just now considering taking on a doodle breed issues is being mouthy no obedience no respect for the owner. She’s at a point where she’s ready to get the dog to another home. I think this was meant to be because I met her mom briefly at Coastal we got into some kind of a conversation and this came about that she begged me to do it. It’s been on my mind, so I have sent an email to evaluate the situation and see what I can do for this animal caus e I don’t want it to go to the shelter, and I love these videos because they really do help me with a Multitude of breeds, and looking at them differently for the evaluation process
Do these work with 6 month old pugs? I’m trying to start his training so I can train him upwards to help with my mental disorder. Also any tips for training pugs? I read they’re stubborn
We have a 8 week old Bernesbmiuntain dog pup, training is going well but anytime we try to use a leash all he wants to do it play with that and we cannot hold his attention. Any videos or advice?
my 1 1/2 yr old labradoodle is extremely car reactive and last week broke off his prong collar and was hit by a car!! thankfully he is OK but I am at my wits end. I just ordered your e collar.. but I want to know how I get a hold of you
Do NOT use a prong collar without a safety clip. Check my website to get one.You can work with me several different ways, check out my website on how to do that. upstatecanine.com
@@tomdavisofficial I just joined your membership so I can get some pointers and yes the prong had a safety release and that’s how it came off. He must’ve turned just right and it released.!!
I have 3 german shepherds. All females the mom and her 2 puppies and having the issue with doing one by one, and the others really lossing it not sure what to do.
Love the videos as always, I have a 70 pound rescue mutt bully/black mouth cur mix. I've started him out on a slip leash since he was around 2.5months and now he's going on 9 months, and I think i'm going to finally advance him to a Prong like I've used before with older pits. I loved the ease of the slip leash, but as he's hitting his teen stage my wife doesn't like to have to handle him on walks because if he gets excited even with the slip she has a hard time with getting him to listen. I'm definitely going to use some of these basic's again as kind of a reset learning tool, and conditioning to having a prong instead of the slip lead.
I have a bit of a different question here (whether you see this or not), what is your opinion on dogs sleeping on the bed with you during training them obedience or working with them on behaviour modification? Do you think it plays a role in how they learn and view your bond and relationship? If you do manage to see this and answer it in a video or even here in the comments, I’d greatly appreciate it. 😊
Why mark the behavior by repeating the command when they're doing the behavior already? Saying "Good place" when he's already in the place you want him in seems confusing.

@@tomdavisofficial, you do it very well. Tom trains and communicates in a very similar way to me.

That dried beef liver is liquid gold. My two dogs froth at the mouth for it. Easily the best treat Ive used for training/reward.

Start with the basic of heel where the dog is next to you
Be careful to too much running at that age.
Tom, wanted to ask, why the name of the channel changed ? Did you decide to do things separately from the academy?
Just didn't make sense with my career to keep the UCA name.

Will the standard contact points that come with your e collar work on a dog that has a fluffy neck or a thick coat
How long should each training session be? And should I focus on teaching them and perfecting one thing before moving on to the other ?

I always say that for recall you have to make yourself be better than the best treat ever, i.e. better than a piece of chicken, for the dog to come.
Yup!
How do you stop a dog from chasing cars is that fear aggression

HOW do i keep my pup from eating from my cats food dish????? Ive tried all i know VERY consistently - he's so compulsive!!!!!!
I have to put the dish where the dog can't reach it for now.
Correct the behavior
