Love how you've planned out using coordinating fabrics to make an entire look. Haven't used yet, but I recently purchased a pintuck foot and double needle. The double needle is supposed to make the tuck, and the grooves on the presser foot is used to evenly space the tucks.
Wow. That looks like a total nightmare to create...but what a payoff! what' you've got so far looks really beautiful. Keen to see the end result, with ALL the pieces. Very cool!!!
I marked pleats like that on some slithery rayon satin for a top that had only TWO vertical pleats down the front and almost lost my mind, so I salute you 🫡
Gini, watching you do these reminded me of a Ralph Lauren blouse I made in the 1980’s (Vogue pattern 1065). I measured and pinned until I was crazy, but so very determined😂 Then I discovered the pin tuck foot😊 years later when I really got into pin tucks on other projects! Made my life so much easier. I love all your fabrics and look forward to seeing these finished and modeled together. Can you not mark for your fold line for pin tuck and sew with foot the distance away from folded edge? It’s been awhile, but I think that’s what I did on that Simplicity over-sided top that you made a few years ago and then I made me one. I don’t think those were pintucks but tucks and a bunch of them. When you get this finished and you admire your work, there’s your reward for this pin tuck hell you’re going through😊🤣
Hi Cheryl, these tucks are definitely more like the one's on that simplicity shirt but I would have gladly gone with pin tucks if I had thought of that. After I saw this comment I looked in my big box of sewing machine feet and I do have the pin tuck foot 🙄so if I ever do this again I will use that (that's a big "if" 🤣) I used your method of marking the center of the pleat for the whole back and that was much better! Thanks for the tips Cheryl, I knew you would have some ideas on this 🤗
I would think using template plastic from quilting would be a good idea. Cut a strip the half the width of the pintuck and place it in the fold of the tuck. Leave it in while you sew the tuck and then slide it out afterwards.
Pin tuck hell indeed. Sadly no brilliant pearls of pin tuck wisdom to pass on- I do mine the same way as you. Good Luck and I really look forward to seeing your peach inspired ensemble. 😊. Lynne
Hey that is a really amazing grouping of fabrics 👍. I think they look SO great together. But Gini, 68 pintucks on lightweight silk? You are a mad woman 😱 (I say that with love 😂). It will be totally amazing, I know it 🤩. You continue to inspire me.
Rooting for you 100%, from Pintuck Hell to the Peachiest of Peachy Situations! 😂 That little mini capsule outfit is going to be fabulous, and can’t wait to see it when it’s finished!
I have found a cheap lazer level (harbor freight) and using that on the table with the fabric and marking the pleats with pins. I think I would have done my own thing on the pintucks measurements and then cut the pintuck fabric for the skirt. But I am a VERY casual sew-er and don’t sweat the stuff others do.
The whole outfit concept is great, I can't wait to see the pieces come together! I just did my first ever pintucks last week (the goldfinch pierce top) with the idea of practicing/trying out the technique before tackling a Garden top. They were more fun than I expected, but only 6, not sixty++!
It sure looks like other side of pin tuck Hell is going to be a Heavenly garment! You must have truckloads of patience to do them in slinky silk. Note to my ADHD self....as cute as pintucks are -> Avoid that many of them in any pattern. I have a boat neck boxy top that keeps sliding off my shoulder and I have contemplated pintucks to narrow it a bit. It's a yarn dyed linen in a small gingham check so they should be way easier to measure🤞. I'm looking forward to seeing the whole ensemble together...a mini capsule wardrobe!
Oh yeah, adding a few pin tucks to that top is a great idea! Next time I do pin tucks they're going to be on something like gingham or stripes so I don't have to do all the measuring 😂
Can you hear me screaming all the way from Texas? Oh pin tucks, no pintucks, aw shucks pintucks, you get my meaning…. The thought of doing these is going to give me nightmares.
One of the first dresses I made when I came back to sewing clothes had many pin tucks. It was really fun to make and I marked each line. But I like your pinning method better! You are brave to pin tuck the fabric you are using, I used a regular cotton. But that soft fabric you are using will be so much better. You will love it when it’s done. I love all those fabrics together. You must have a great stash of fabrics. I’m finding, I’m turning into quite the collector myself.
thank you Patricia I made the Paige dress from Elbe textiles a couple of years ago. I made it in a nice stable cotton and I loved it. And I don't remember it being such a giant pain. I will say, however, now that these tucks are finished I'm pretty chuffed with it.
Really fun! I never did pintucks. That looks like a lot. The organic way the outfit came together is very creative. I’m excited for you, and excited to see it when finshed, ❤
Since you asked, imo, the solid peach should not be used at all. I like it so much better with the red fabrics and they’re much more your colors. Could you eliminate a few pin tucks to substitute for the narrow side pieces? Also, imo, side panels in a different color would not be a good look for this dress in this fabric. Suggestions given with love 😂
All suggestions taken in the way they were intended 😂 and I think you're right about that peach but I already cut my pants out of the red and now I don't have enough for the side panels. 😒 I may see if I can come up with something other than the peach we'll see. I also agree that side panels would be better in the same fabric rather than a contrast but see what poor planning gets you?😂
I made a dress from linen and marked darts etc with a heat erasable pen but sadly it left white residue when I ironed it, yes I should have tested it first but I had never had this happen before. I thought no biggie it'll come out in the wash - no it did not 🤦♀ I did some research and found a product called "Ink and stain remover" by Amodex. I placed it on the white residue marks and used a toothbrush to scrub it a little and then washed the dress again and all the marks were gone. Not sure if that was the issue your fabric was having with the heat erasable marker but maybe this will help someone. I look forward to seeing the finished top when it's completed as the fabric looks beautiful.
thanks Tracy that's a really good tip I will look for that. I had a residue left on my fabric but it was a light bluish/grayish color. I also couldn't get it out with a hand wash.
Dianes French Fold jacket would be great for this. Did you try a Frixion pen? Ive had good luck with the extra fine point actually erasing from the fabric and what didnt come off came out in the wash. Btw, I left a huge comment on your sardine dress video, I tried 3 times but it never published. I found pants patterns and a good dress pattern for the sardine dress. Everything is on etsy. I even found sardine fabric thats perfect and a pieced alphabet really similar to the writing on the original. Fabric is from Mylushfabric, alphabet is Wonky Alohabet by Kelbysews. Yaffesews has a good dress pattern named Oversized Boho but Style Arc's Sydney expansion pack seems perfect.
Hi Charlotte, I did try the Frixion pen but mine isn't a fine point so maybe that was the problem? I was thinking of the French Fold Shrug too! I looked up all of your ETSY suggestions Thank you so much. I love that boho dress! and the alphabet is awesome, right up my alley. I do have that Sydney dress and I think it's kind of perfect for this look so I'll probably use that, but I"m going to get that boho dress anyway 😂 'cause I need another pattern!
Oh my lord, girl!!!😮. Tough sewing 🪡
Really pretty---the print screams "SUMMER!" :)
You are a braver woman than I. Pintucks AND silk??? I'm almost hyperventilating. 🤣
🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, someone else mentioned the pin tuck foot and, guess what? I HAVE one! wish I had thought of that before I started 😂
Wow. That looks like a total nightmare to create...but what a payoff! what' you've got so far looks really beautiful. Keen to see the end result, with ALL the pieces. Very cool!!!
thanks Faith!
I marked pleats like that on some slithery rayon satin for a top that had only TWO vertical pleats down the front and almost lost my mind, so I salute you 🫡
the slippery fabric isn't doing me any favors that's for sure!

Idea looks really cool!!!😊
Thank you, Gini! Pin tucks have defeated me, so far! Love the look, I will try again sometime. Your capsule is super!
Well don't try it on silk crepe de chine! 🤣🤣🤣

thank you Lynne!
Hi Jinny, I love spending time with you! Pintuck hell for sure! The laps in our sanity are somewhat of a problem with what we buy some times!

OMG the lazer level is a genius idea!!!

six sounds a whole lot better than 60! I'll have to check out that top.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 geez Doris where were you when I came up with this cockamamie idea?
I just got this pattern this past week and it’s in my rotation to make. So glad to see you’re sew along.
it's a challenging pattern with all those pleats but very satisfying!
I love your collection! It is going to be so good. I use starch and then mark my pin tucks. It is easyer to sew and mark and wash out well
I also have a plan for a colaberation, would you be interested?

@@thebigsewalong been there done that! Maybe go to Haberman‘s and buy a half yard of something other than the peach?!😆

Hi Gini! Thanks for your video❣️ I ´m sure not to make anything with 68 pintucks 😂. I ´ d love to see your results! ❤️
thank you Sabine!
