its difficult to watch this and not wanna pick up a guitar and give it a go at a few of these licks.. Spectacular gentleman, and i believe very very accurate and true to the recorded studio version on Are You Experienced.
The second power chord that blasts about 6 seconds or so is mind blowing on the actual Experienced album. The last 20-25 seconds of this shows why everybody feels that Hendrix is the ultimate rock guitar genius. Some of the best psychedelia you will ever hear.....unbelievable. :)
From 9:12-9:35 is my favorite section of the song. When I heard Jimi playing it in the background during his solo. I was like... genius... that section is the best arrangement I've ever heard on a guitar. Sounds sad and yet joyous at the same time
bro, this is my favorite Hendrix song of all time and is so underrated/overlooked. Not only are the solos amazing, the rhythm section draws so much emotion.
@@nessrussell2803 Ur right... Lots of people always bring up wild thing, little wing, purple haze, ect.....But this song hands down is simply the most beautiful song he ever played and sung

The name of the second chord in May This be Love is actually F#m9(11) or F#m9(11)/C# depending on how you want to play it. The guy in the guitar showed it right, though.
I got mixed up with the 9's and 7's, but the 11th is there on the open B string, and the "/C#" means it is the second inversion of F#, but in the vídeo it is played in root position (lowest note is F# on the D string)
Yeah, I've seen that cover too :) That guy rocks. I like writing chords the short way though, lol, and that would be F#m7(11)/C#. Now that is not very short now that I'm looking at it, but still precise, lol! And it is okay, we are saying the same thing using different symbols
you can easily find a slide like that in any music instruments store, just ask for a metal slide for guitar, they come in different sizes so try them on your pinky and or ring finger of your fretting hand....
@@frostyjr2 You are correct in your assumptions..Andy Aledort played all the guitar parts on this lesson dvd and for some strange reason they had Velvert Turner doing the spoken part of the instructional.
you should be asking who the guy narrating is, that’s velvert turner the student of jimi hendrix, hendrix taught him how to play back in the 60s and another white dude, check out his only album, velvert turner group after the album was released they broke up a short time after but it’s pretty cool knowing jimi taught him.
No it’s a little sharp from Eb on this tune. So is Manic Depression but it’s a little lower as is Are You Experienced. Maddeningly, Highway Chile is yet another tuning that’s different from the other three but still not quite Eb. Gotta love them songs tho!!
Yes, but if you asked Mitch and noel; they both said Jimi wrote all the music including most of the drums and all of the bass parts. Not including Little Miss strange, written by Noel Redding.
@@drivinsouth651 I might be wrong here but It seems to me by all the print and audio interviews that I've seen with Noel Redding after Jimi's passing he sounded bitter and disrespectful concerning Jimi up to the day he passed himself It was like he still held a grudge or had a chip on his shoulder after all the years that had pased. For instance he never referred to Jimi by anything other than "Hendrix".. Now Mitch on the other hand always spoke highly and respectfully of Jimi till the day he died .. And always called him by his first name as a friend would I think Noel had Major jealousy and possibly bias issues towards Jimi.
@@guitarzan2201 Yes, I concur! I noticed Noel Redding was extremely and always jealous of Jimi. I`d give anything to be Jimi`s bass player and would kiss God`s (Jimi`s) @$$ while doing it. It is excellent that Jimi replaced Noel with his friend Billy Cox; that is so cool!
The guy thats talking was a good friend of Jimi. His name ia Velvert Turner. I think he`s dead now.. But this is great! Thx
There will never be another Hendrix, a true innovator!
I love the way he talks about Jimi's music and shows admiration for his work
It's so good to revisit this. 11 yrs studying Hendrix and my admiration has only matured and grown. Thanks for posting this

It's actually a 2nd inversion F# min7 chord. The progression is I ii IV on the verses.

I wanted to point it out just because the narrator called it F major, if I'm not mistaken

Hendrix wrote the greatest guitar solo using just one string 😮
3:33-3:36 add the open A string in-between flows nicer
The guy playing the guitar is a young Andy Aledort.

This song has always intrigued me a it must’ve been completely radical at the time it came out, and it even sounds like nothing since.
great lesson ....can hear the amps buzzing
Great demo and tone on one of my favorite Jimi songs! What gear are you using?
Glad you dig it-a believe it was an early 80s JCM 800 thru a 4x12 bottom…we were in a tiny room, like 12” x 12” so it was a little ridiculous…
