#HotelFees #Marriott #Hilton
If a fee is mandatory, it must be included in the rate, period.
It's even worse than that. There is Tourism (TW) fee that Marriott charges of $0.50/night that they never disclose on all their Marriott-managed hotels. That's fraud because it's never disclosed until after check-out.
@@rodneyboehner3007 thats not true.
@@brodgers04 TW fees are management fees ($0.50 per night) that are totally hidden to guest from ALL Marriott-managed hotels (franchised hotel excluded). Marriott should totally be sued in a class-action case.
And they should be upfront and not charge a fee if they aren't giving me information on what they include.
The fee absolutely should not be hidden or embedded in the rate!
Why not just be upfront and advertise everything that’s included? This is why consumers are always leery of corporate businesses.
Its called business
@@bratdabest5866 it’s call ripped off
@@bratdabest5866 I thought idiots weren’t allowed on this app .. be gone
@@bratdabest5866 it's called wrong.
@@bratdabest5866 you are part of the problem that exists in this world
As someone who’s worked for Marriott and Hilton, I can tell you the best thing you can do is call the property you’re staying at and inquire about all charges prior to check in.
Hidden Fees are pretty much a hotels way of saying, "Hey, we are trying to avoid bankruptcy due to the lack of employees and lack of business, so if we could just charge you for some hidden benefits, that would be greaaaaaaaatttt."
Mm, nah no thanks. 🌞⛱️🌴😎
Why are they allowed to even legally make these fees "mandatory" in the first place?
Because they’re all in cahoots together.
Because this is America! We have all the freedom in the world to be charged insane amounts for everything from hotels to hospitals.
Capitalism at its finest
@@qtben17 not to get political here but, they need this disband FoxNews, 24/7 they like to tell this notion that the 'free market' is good, it's 'freedom' and 'Rules for companies to behave' are bad.
Whether you're red or blue Americans we need to wake up! the *free market* is a scam when corporate monopolies in every sector decide to gang up on consumers, and get bailed out with our tax money.
I work for Marriott in NC. We don't have a destination fee. We charge an additional $20 at check in but there is an automatic refund at the end of your stay. Idk what NY got going on.
“No you lose it.” I cringed 😬
I work front desk at hotel. And the fees are insane. We even have a tourism tax that started this summer.
Really not tourism tax
Why can't we as Americans fee the government!?
Housekeeper's get $8.50/hr. & they only have 22 minutes to clean each room. 3 rooms cleaned for $6 after taxes, & the room goes for $200 in peak season.
Shameless Evil greed
Lol definitely not the case in states like Ca or Ny.
@@kishenhpThe country is much bigger than LA and NY
@@brandonburns5365 Exactly my point, @Jess Romancier statement is quite general. Not ALL hotels pay their housekeepers so little and NOT all hotels charge so much.
@@kishenhp But Jess example is what more of the country experience working for hotels.
The cost of resort fees in Las Vegas range from $20 to $60 per night. It doesn't make any sense.
and it doesn't even cover parking that used to be free everywhere in Vegas.
Was Vegas better when the mob ran it?
@@MisterMikeTexas Don't know. I never visited when they ran it.
Hotels have had it good for too long and now their paying the price.
They've done this for years. So wrong.
Lol this has been going on for years I live in Las Vegas and they have resort fees of $30-$40 a night for using the pool and Wi-Fi even if it’s off-season
Pool is not an included amenity in resort fee for properties on the strip. Some off strip properties include pool access in resort fee but it is very few. The pool access is complimentary for all guests with room reservations. The reason why it is not included is so they can close pool for private events or maintenance and not be forced to issue refunds if someone does a credit card chargeback on the resort fee part of the bill. They just tell the credit card company along with the guest that the resort fee isn’t advertised to include pool access which means the customer did not pay for guaranteed access to the pool.
Resort fees have always been included. This is a new fee that's being added during covid times. And those that cannot charge a "resort" fee because they are not a resort are doing these fees now. These amenities fees are newer.
Las Vegas and Orlando have the BS fees
@@KeithS4789 well what does it include?! Because when I asked the front desk at a Vegas hotel on the strip, the pool was the main thing that the lady said was included in the stupid fee.
@@genwilson7741 which hotel did you stay at?
If it was a Caesars Entertainment or MGM Resorts branded hotel, then the lady was mistaken.
Another reason why they don’t include pool with resort fee is due to the seasonal nature of pools since they have periods of closure during off season.
All of the major resorts have the resort fee amenities clearly described on their websites and pool access is not included. Pool access is complimentary with room rate and is subject to availability.
This keeps people from suing them for not refunding them the resort fee if pool is closed. Fitness center access, Internet access, and local phone calls are the only things included in resort fee at Caesars and MGM. If the fitness center is closed at a resort, they will just inform the guest that they can access another resort’s fitness center instead of offering a refund.
But during off season for pool access, they can’t offer that sort of guarantee primarily due to safety reasons involving staffing and the uncertainty of how many guests may hop over from properties with closed pools. Due to this reason, pool access is not a part of the resort fee because it cannot be guaranteed and they don’t want to give refunds when the pool is closed.
In a capitalist society you have a responsibility to vote with your wallet. I don't stay at hotels that have these fees, period, its not that hard. If everyone actually put their money where their mouth is these fees would go away immediately and we would have transparent pricing.
I stayed at Marriott in SF. They told me wifi was free when I checked in. I maybe used the wifi once during my stay. They later charged me $5 extra on my bill. It took some time but I found they charged me for wifi. I argued and got the charge deducted . BS
L
Chill
it’s just 5 bucks stay your broke a$$ home
Instead of charging extra fee,s, just add the fee to the the price of the room, so the room may be more then other places but no extra fees tacked on , then who cares as long as that's the total price up front minus tax
Yes, there are resort fees everywhere and most of the perks I do not use. Las Vegas has resort fees. You see them everywhere.
This makes AirBNB look more attractive for an option than paying for crap you will most likely never use....
Not really. Many hosts on there add cleaning fees. Also, there’s no guarantee that they even clean with fee or not. You can see housekeepers going around doing something in hotels. You don’t know how thorough they are, but you at least know something is happening between guests. You have no idea with Airbnb. And it’s awkward to complain to a host that the room in their own house is not clean enough for what you paid them. At a hotel, you complain and 9 out of 10 times, they will relocate you to another room of same room type or even give you a better room. You can’t really relocate to a different part of the house and expect a different cleanliness standard with Airbnb reservations.
I'm staying at an Airbnb as we speak, and there was some $95 fee tacked on. I think the hosts get their money from the nightly rate and Airbnb gets that weird fee. But using them does not guarantee no unexplained fees popping up.
@Adventure West you got to be a good guest and keep things clean so they will give you a good review. Ha.
The ones that don’t have parking included are the best ones.
They've started adding fees too that in some cases nearly double the advertised price. Also, they now charge the taxes that hotels charge in a lot of cities now.
Lol not really Airbnb is getting more n more expensive. That one is also insane.
Las vegas has so many of these. It should be illegal. Stealing from their own customers.
OMG I stayed at MGM over the summer and my bill was riddled with resort fees. 🙈
The biggest fees are the taxes the hotels have to pay the city/state they are located in.
There’s no need for extra fees.
1.) less employees working= less salaries paid out
2.) less housekeepers = less laundry services
3.) rooms still full with less overhead =profit + hidden fees🤔
Airlines used to do this, and they got reigned in because of all the hidden fees. It’s now why you see airline fees all inclusive of tax at time of booking. Hotels need the same regulation. I’m sick and tired of resort fees.
Thanks for the tip.. Will definitely use that fee for bar credits now…
Vegas is the worst for this. Rooms will often be priced lower than the resort fees, which is incredibly misleading.
We’re literally getting robbed everyday.
Agree.
Marriot is a known awful "high end" hotel lol. I would rather stay at the Hotel 6
A long time they’ve been doing it I remember working with Marriott Marquis in Manhattan they were paying $31 for five years I’ve been working there when the world corona they called me back to work this year April and told me that they’re going to put the restaurant under a different management and want to cut my pay to $24 while lay keep the big pocket money when they rent a room
They are trying to recover their losses from the pandemic.
They made tons of money during the pandemic.
Bull crap! They are trying to get extra money from us, to cover all the inflated expenses they pay their Executives. And/or - loss from declines in other areas of the company - since they are global. Do you know the perks on the books they pay for Senior Lvl Executives? It’s ridiculous! They should < those costs & better mngn the revenue! Stop charging us more for your greed/mismanagement!
This practice is probably common for resorts and near tourist attractions. I recently traveled for work and stayed in a few hotels in four southern states. They were not near any tourist attractions and mostly 3 star hotels with many business travelers. They don't charge such fees. I think the more upscale the hotel, the more fees they charge for things like WiFi, breakfast and parking.
There literally is a HUGE disclaimer at the top of the webpage before you book at Hilton explaining everything. It's not fine print. Stop it.
Newslady - it’s not “a freebie” if they are charging you for it.
Hotels need to be regulated on truth in advertising. They know they're deceptive. If it's a nightly charge then it's part of the hotel room cost. As a customer, I google hotels without resort fees and do my best to avoid them, but in places like Vegas, it's hard to avoid them.
Oh! These have been around for a long time especially in tourist areas ex: amenity fees, resort fees and etc. It has been happening long ago so not new. So it is important when book anything look in their description what covers and what is not. For the state, if you only have a certain amount $ on your credit card to be authorized for an incident you should call ahead to check. Depending on the type of hotel, the authorization could be either for a whole stay or per night. That will be released after you check out but may take up to 7 business days. Not every place will have free wifi or a free coffee maker, etc. It does say in the breakdown when you scroll down in the room what will charge. Also, Make sure you look at the type you book if you like something specific because the price could be different. Once you book if the hotel sold out it may be hard to switch. So make sure you look at all the fees before booking!!
I hate it too but a lot of hotels have these. It’s not just a Marriott thing
They know a large percent of guests don't use the EXTRA Services....and Corporate Pockets the rest ! Time to dump my Marriott Card.
HIDDEN FEES ARE UNETHICAL
LAS VEGAS IS THE WORST ADVERTISING ROOM PRICES BUT MARK THEM UP $20 A NIGHT FOR HIDDEN "RESORT FEES"
💩
yeah they do it's ridiculous
"in the fine print"
Vegas has been charging resort fees which is what they are doing. They even tax on top of these fees.
It’s not a freebie if you literally pay for it. Also, I’m curious what the case will be because hotels in Vegas do this. They disclose the fee but it is not included in the base room rate and that’s hundreds of hotels and it seems like these hotels disclose the fee but people aren’t used to it. Consumers might not be used to looking at their statements as carefully but that’s a lesson for everyone unfortunately.
AirBnB. Problem solved.
This is why I don’t even want to travel anymore. Everything is going up for anything.
Yep agree and so we won't.
Priceline is charging me more than 1/3 of the night in taxes & fees and they cannot/will not explain what these taxes and fees cover, other than "Sales and Use tax, Occupancy tax, Room tax, Excise tax and a Value-added or similar tax" a generic statement OR a 755 word legal email explaining nothing
Thank god i have my employee discount hahaha
This kinds of remind me of an old high school teacher who required a lot of mandatory out of class assignments and she called them extra credit but if they're mandatory then why call them extra credit.
How are you charging phones fees when EVERYONE has a cell phone is this day!!
Yes they are going up I’ve seen in Atlanta it’s gone up 20%
The hotel tonight app lists the resort fees that exist at many hotels in various cities.
The Westin charged me over $100.00 in fees this past weekend.
This is normal in America.. I'm not surprised at all. It's no different when you buy a new car at the dealership.. you don't pay the sticker price.
Because these cooperations can’t afford to not charge these fees. What a joke!
This is why it is better book a Air BNB way better than any hotel and you have privacy and no hidden fees
Best Road Westin is the worst...They charged men$7 for calling front desk to complain about the air
I do t understand! This has been happening for years and no one complained
Yes the government needs to step in and stop this crap because not all of us can't afford for us poor people a hotel stay even for one night is a huge luxury and that is ridiculous they're charging you to wash the towels that is really despicable and disgusting these rich stuff suits need to wake up and smell the roses before I shove the thorns up their noses
This is stupid. This “news” was hidden advertisement for these hotels. Screw these amenities fees
Government should do her job with hotels.
If you see $21, $33, $45 online per night low Rates. Remember to add a Zero.
$210, $330, $450 say 3 days 2 nights.
They should give that option. Some people do not drink or eat at the hotel. Some may never use the wifi or phone in the rooms. So why force them to pay for it?
Hiding extra fees on top of what you pay for a hotel should be illegal desert disclose everything and I mean everything decide whether you want to book with them or not
Same thing for car rentals
I recently experience this with Hilton Home 2 Suites in Franklin, Tennessee. Also this happen to me at the Embassy Suites. This is clearly false advertisement and fraud.
I have a solution to these outrageous hotel costs. I'm building a bed in the back of my Toyota Corrolla with a piece of plywood and a old mattress, its just as comfortable as a hotel bed, its much cheaper, and its quieter (don't need ear plugs to fall asleep) and much less stressful (don't have to worry about no vacancy on holidays. Ideally I'd like to pull off on a dirt road in the forest where no one will bother me but I could park at a rest stop, walmart parking lot or even the side of a country road if I had to. People ask me how do you afford to do nice vacations only making 35k a year, I only stay in hotels every 2nd or 3rd night. Go ahead keep raising hotel prices and maybe I'll spend every 4th night in a hotel.
Connie Chung is still my favorite asian woman anchor in American tv news.
They need to get rid of resort fees
I meannnn at this point they are asking for people to resort to Air B&B instead 🙃
This is why I stopped booking hotels years ago. Airbnb is way cheaper.
Thanks for sharing this, because I always wondered why I had to pay those extra fees. I never was told that I could get those extra pleasures. I agree the Government needs to crack down on all Hotels charging these fees. 🙌🏾🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Yes, we go to Orlando quite a bit. They are notorious for extra taxes and what's called resort fee. And remember, wifi could be extra, parking could be extra. It's up to you to figure all this out.
Don’t go out no more consumer reports people. Must conserve money from high cost marketing and attractions luxury
Screw the customer as much as possible.
We barely use any of the “amenities “ whenever we stay with Marriott. I hope the lawsuits go through.
Grand Sierra Resort in Reno doing this for years. Resort fee is what they call it even if you don’t want it or use it.
I've seen a few consumer petitions about these "hidden" fees but in all honesty I've never booked a room with hidden fees. I do Marriot almost exclusively and whenever I book a room, i see all the fees. I've never paid anything different than what was quoted at booking time
I never knew this, i thought it was just a legal fee that they can charge and screw the people staying there. I started staying in AirBNBs now.
They aren't freebies if you pay for it!
Yeah I just stayed at the Marriott Marquis with a $30 a night fee. He explained that I should take advantage of it because it does not roll over or get refunded back
I love the hotel’s explanation… you get free food credits and free phone calls but it’s a mandatory non refundable 30 bucks. I wonder if I go to the hotel bar order say a martini and tell them use my 30 buck food credit. Here is your bill… martini is 40 bucks so you owe us 10.
Stayed at the Holiday Inn Downtown Nashville. When I checked out I saw I was charged $60.00 to have valet park my car overnight in the hotel parking garage. Plus of corse Valet wanted a tip.
I just came from the Warwick in Chicago and whatever they were charging they were upfront about it
I was just charged an $35 per night for a $99 per night stay at Crown Plaza
I’m an ambassador elite and have questioned the “resort fees”. It’s disclosed during checkout but they rarely waive it even if you decline the amenities. I just book elsewhere.
I bought 8.99 medium pizza from pizzahut. Pizza hut charged me $3 service fee. Same scenario
If they say something is free it should be free couldn't be charging you 30/40 or $50 for it after they tell you it's free is deceptive advertising
This is nothing new. If you travel enough you'd know this by now
“Destination” or “resort” fees are nothing new. Why is this on the news?
Because a DC attorney has filed a lawsuit against Marriott.
Ive stayed at the hilton & heard nothing about free food
That's why I'm not traveling soon it's not the money it's the hidden prices
It should be presented at check in if you want to use the amenities and pay the extra fees
Stop giving your money to these scam artists.
Just call the property before hand. Do your research. Don't be a cry baby. Be a responsible adult and pay the fees. They aren't ripping you off. They're lending you a piece of their property which most guests destroy and then demand refunds. Gfto
It’s not a free bee because you are paying for it
What about the 20% in Miami for gratuity automatically added to the restaurant/bar bills?
I call it robbery.
Myrtle Beach resorts are terrible for this. Add on resort fees can get pretty high. Learned that first hand.
Also watch out for additional local taxes that get add at check out.
Omg thanks for this information I had no idea this is WHY they were charging this.
that happend to me
How is this different than ordering a menu item at a restaurant and paying for the item plus 20% tip? The waitstaff is employed by the restaurant, not by me.
The tip is technically not mandatory. It is at your discretion.
@@thomasyarnall999 Technically and theoretically, you are correct. So you're saying it's acceptable not to leave a tip. In reality that won't go over well.
It’s disclosed before you pay and the industry has has “record fees”. This story is a joke.
IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE.
