Englishman in New York was his first solo song I heard ex Police. B. Marsalis on the soprano sax and the strings, along with Sting's vocals was a marvel. It's why I really get what your saying.
Can we appreciate how professionally legendary Sting is? The guy has performed the same songs 3 zillion times and still manages to deliver intensely and make them sound original every time. Simply amazing! Furthermore, he knows his voice isn't in the best shape in this occasion so he controls very carefully how he uses it so that he can reach certain tones in the right moment. That's also very masterful.
Sting is the most determined man in music. His work ethic is second to none. Just look at his musical, "The Last Ship," he didn't roll over, he kept plugging away, until it was a success. He's done that with everything he's tried his hand at. "IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED, TRY, TRY AGAIN. Don't give up too easily; persistence pays off in the end." Thanks for the music, Sting. You're a legend.
The Last Ship CD and production was simply the BEST!! I was able to meet him at TLS at his Toronto, Canada show. I had my picture take with him. My 1st bucket list checked off. I need to see him in a concert soon. xox
The Last Ship is so beautiful. But as you said, Sting is simply.... Sting. He/his concert still keeps the place on my bucket list among those wishes I am afraid I will never reach :(
Sting’s of the best musical brains out there..he’s been a serious influence on my bass playing since I started..Note choice, arrangement & overall feel Sting’s a Champ!
yow man, if you didn't already know, I think this would interest you. Sodajerker podcast has done an interview with Sting about his songwriting. Pretty interesting stuff, including when he said that most of his songs start out as bossa nova which explains a lot of his songs' feel...
I still remember the day I feel in love with this mans music. I was 13 on a field trip to the Long Beach aquarium of the pacific and they were playing fields of gold .
Welp. This is better than I was expecting. Shirazee was an amazing touch! So glad he contributed to make one of my favorites songs into something different and amazing.
Sting is my favorite--he's one of the greatest songwriters & distinctive singers of all time. It is my great hope that he'll be able to push himself to not be complacent and will strive to produce new, high-quality content that is as cutting edge, sincere, and fresh as his early solo work.
Englishman in NY can be remixed until infinity. The blue print of the song is SOLID-a specialty of Sting. Sick classic. Love from a stolen African in NY.
I love Sting, definitely as a showman is pure simplicity and creates confidence wherever he sings, success through years is the result of patience, talent, luckiness and the perseverance… what a crooner is Sting!
To me, there is something so spectacular to hear songs that I have loved for years; in a more intimate, toned down version. Incredible performance Sting!
This performance took me back to 1986 on a sunny, summer day in Michigan watching The Police in concert at what was then-called Pine Knob, an outdoor venue. It was magic with the crowd singing along to Sting's amazing vocals. Thank you for bringing back such a sweet memory. I hope Sting tours when 'normal' life resumes. Thank you for having him on Tiny Desk!
No importa de que parte del mundo se le escuche... Sting es simplemente un genio de la música y tiene una voz que te transporta y llega todo lo que el desea expresar. Ídolo!
I hope sting just repeatedly comes on tiny desk for years with different people to sing Englishman in New York.
That'll be his calling card for Tiny Desk haha
Next time he'll be singing with a Swedish yoddeler
@Gwendolyn Williams What's wrong with that?
Totally agree
