- This is a fun and quick crochet technique! It is NOT mosaic crochet, but it looks a lot like mosaic crochet. In this video, learn how to crochet the mesh, weave the chains into the mesh and crochet the edging for that finished look. I'll take you from beginning to end of this woven crochet technique so you'll be successful with making the Stairstep Woven Hot Pad or Coaster.

I’ve been crocheting for many years and I’ve never seen this before.
Super excited to give it a go.
Many thanks for a lovely tutorial ❤️
You're very welcome! I hope you enjoy Woven Crochet as much as I do! Happy crocheting to you!
Your videos are always interesting and free from attempts to make people buy this or that. I very much appreciate your approach. The tip about making the turning chain face you is something I will use immediately, on another project. Perhaps the woven technique could work for a sweater too if one chooses thin yarn and a bigger hook to add some drape. Thank you very much for sharing your clever ideas 😊
You're very welcome, Anna! I'm glad you find my video helpful. I think a woven sweater would be fabulous! The only drawback might be having to make the weaving chain very, very long. Happy crocheting to you!
Wow! Thanks Susan! I always learn something new from you. Guess i know what I'll be trying this weekend! 👍🏻 Good to see you.

Thanks Susan. Attaching a safety pin to the end of the cord, makes weaving easier.
Like threading a waistband or a hood on a sweatshirt.
You're very welcome, Cheryl. That's a great tip! I've used a safety pin for threading elastic in a waistband before. It works really well! Happy crocheting to you!
This is so good. Thank you for sharing. Always something new to learn. ❤

You're very welcome, Barbara! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Happy crocheting to you!
Great technique!!!!
You're so right- a blanket would be difficult even if you used 1 chained thread for each row.
Many thanks.
You're very welcome, Valerie! Happy crocheting to you!

Oh. . You can connect your square together to make a blanket.
I really love this craft.
Great job ✨👏✨💛
That's a fabulous idea! It would be fun to use all 4 woven crochet patterns, alternating the right side and wrong side on each of them to give a slightly different look! And the blanket would be totally reversible! I'd also use different colors (or you could simplify it and just use 2 colors throughout). Happy crocheting to you!
Very good instructions
Thank you, Anuradha! I hope you enjoy learning and practicing woven crochet. Happy crocheting to you now and always!

I believe you're subscribed to my website for updates on my new blog posts. That's the email you're referring to. There's also another way to get updated when I post a new video. That's by subscribing to my RUclips channel (which you may already be) and hitting the bell for notifications when a new video comes out. I don't think you can receive an email when I have a new video, though. You'd have to be logged into your RUclips account and look for a notification dot next to my channel under your subscribed channels.
Happy crocheting to you, as well! Have a blessed day!
Beautiful
Thank you! I hope you enjoy the Woven Crochet technique! Happy crocheting to you!
I ❤ this method, thank you ❣️
Keep in mind that acrylic will not hold up to heat and will melt onto the pot.
You're very welcome, Della! I agree completely about not using acrylic because it will melt. That's why I use cotton for hot pads and potholders. Happy crocheting to you!
HERMOSO 😍
GRACIAS por compartir
Saludos 🫂🙏🏽
You're very welcome, Julieta. Happy crocheting to you!

Ohhhh sooo pretty. Thanks so much. Glad I found you.
You're very welcome, Sharon. I'm glad you found me, too! I hope you enjoy learning more crochet techniques with my other videos, as well. Happy crocheting to you!
Your brilliant ! ✨ Thank you 🙌 I can't wait to try it. 🎉
Don't you think if you sandwiched two of them back to back with a piece of batting in the center ?
Going to definitely check out your other videos . ✨👏👍
You're welcome! Thank you for your kind words. You probably could sandwich two of them together and insert a piece of batting or flame resistant fabric between them. Of course, you wouldn't see the reverse side of either piece, but that's okay. I hope you like many of my other videos! Happy crocheting to you!
This was great 🎉
Thank you, Jen! I hope you enjoy Woven Crochet as much as I do! Happy crocheting to you!
FUN! what a great idea! Would it work to make little vertical red lines to show what the yarn is doing at the ends? kind of like showing a turning chain on a traditional chart?
Thanks, Pia! I hadn't thought of that. It might work well on the weaving chart! Thanks for the suggestion! Happy crocheting to you!
What I do with designs that do not seem safe for a pot holder, is use doubled up worsted weight yarn. Cotton only.
That's a great idea, Roberta! Thanks for sharing it! Happy crocheting to you!
Wonderfull ❤❤❤ can we make it bigger as something else ?
I don't see why not. It might be tricky to weave a really long chain, though. Happy crocheting to you!
Hi..Susan....nice video 😊....have you see the afghan made like this? Hope all is well for you...
Hi Pam. I hope you're doing well. I'm doing fine. I'm glad you like the video. I've seen some afghans made similarly, but they had yarn pieces woven in them, not chains. They also had fringe from the woven yarn ends. Is there an afghan made with woven chains? If so, can you please share the link to the pattern listing? Thanks!
