And with surplus you get surplus smell, fantastic smell, you start to anticipate your next time out in the woods! Looks like a well thought out piece of kit you have there, great stuff!
I love surplus gear. You almost can never go wrong with military gear, and if you look hard enough you can get really good deals. Also, it's very fitting, there is an add for a military surplus store to the right of this video. Lol. It will be interesting seeing what kind of mods you do to the bag.
i plan on dying it with natural woods materials..and making a few simple mods to improve its use..like your new name thanks for watching my vid..safe journeys
Very Very nice my only problem is Idont like the pocket on the flap Idont like that bulging when you use it! Maybe a peice of cardboard or foam ... something to sit on (a "sit up on ?" ) would be ok but I think I'd leave it empty but nice bag. My main problem is I'm CHEAP!! and I bet this cost more than I want to pay but keep it up I really like your stuff!!
Defo dye it something woodland like he says. Rit green or brown fabric dye? Very Napoleonic -- pre camo. Cool quick release and great size, pocket design
I am making a haver sack from an old military duffle bag and military pack liner dry bad ( Alice pack ) plus some uv protected campo material so it will be three layer thick but am wondering about a good all around size dimension that is not to big or to small any ideas
that will have to come from trial and error..i have 2 haversacks..one is just a bag and i drop in what ever i think the day will call for..the other is my big one and it carries a full shelter and the 10C's..depending on what i am doing is which bag i carry
I tell people all the time, woodcraft wasn't about being period correct or reenacting. They used the best they had at their present time, they had gear that wasn't even released yet because outdoors outfitters used to send them their stuff for testing (like Abercrombie & Fitch for example) and they used household items and they used military surplus. Timeless practice.
I'm a little behind in my video watching but I have a question about this bag. How exacting is it on the 11"X10" measurement? I have something hard sided that is 11.5" I would like to put in it. I know somethings measure a little over or under but they state an even measurement forgetting the fraction or decimal.
Hey Brother, do you have a link to where we could go and purchase this haversack? Absolutely love haversacks and have several from Continental Army style and Civil War styles and I would love to try this design. Have a great day and stay in the dirt!
I think the expression is" a day late and a dollar short " but I did find it at onlinemilitaria.net/products/6134-M1874-Clothing-Bag-Type-III/?bc=no can't promise it'll still be there
i had just shot the percussion revolver mod video i posted before this one..and had placed it without thinking in my belt for this video..late in the day and the hair is grey

I have a canvas haversack I made from drop cloth that I dyed with green pecan hulls and it turns it a medium to dark brown.
Woods loafer. I like that. I loaf about the woods every chance I get.

dye it with walnut husks because it will probably seem more period correct.
