I purchased one and I can say hands down that it is the best design ever!! Blackie is a master at his craft and I can’t stress enough that if you get a chance to purchase one, do so! It’s the best EVER!!! Thank you, Blackie!!
Blackie , Thanks for letting us know, planning on getting one or two in the future. You are always thinking how to make it better, Thank You for sharing your time and knowledge and passing on the craft. You Are The Master Woodsman and Buschcrafter. Thanks Again. Tim L.
Thank Blackie for another great piece of kit. Once again I have two of your old design I would honor having the updated version also. Great design love it. Have a great day Blackie 👍
Fantastic bag!!! I have the 1st one and it's been awesome. Updated design will definitely make it even more versatile. Congratulations sir on the success of this bag.
Great video. The srapp needs to be longer so people can wear their winter coat. Or a life vest. Good haver sack. God bless. From Glenn CATT in Massachusetts.
Fantastic Blackie! I had not considered a water source that was inaccessible, so this makes sense to have a bucket alternate. I love the functional content you make
A good update to an old standard... I like everything about it, except... When I'm carrying a haversack, I will slide it to the back to keep it out of the way, and to the front for access. I find that fixed shoulder pads get in the way. I do not like fixed shoulder pads. Create a shoulder pad 12" lond by 4-6" wide and attach Velcro along the long sides so the pad can be rolled around the strap and let the strap slide through the pad, while staying on the shoulder.
OUTSTANDING.!!!!. If available on the third of April ( Payday ) I will buy one... Thank you Blackie..!! ... From North Georgia Mountains... We Really are excited bout your latest haversack.... Take care and God Bless you and yours....
I like this designer what would also make it a little better would be to add some Mollie webbing on the sides for a couple of water bottle bag carriers or canteen pouches or mag pouches,ECT for added space I also like the idea of paracord on the zipper pulls with knots but also add heavey shrink tubing to make it easier to hold onto for people that have problems with their hands and fingers.
The folding over of the flap to close the bag is like a poncho with a hood collar, on the cheap ponchos the hood attaches directly to rest and doesn't work well in tarp configuration. Those small details really make the difference 👍
🤣🤣LMFAO!! Your Haversacks are terrific!! And I love the 2.0 concepts... but if we're being totally honest here!? Mine gets carried to and from house. Lives in car seat next to me... carrying all my EDC because jagged edges, bulges when seated, etc... It's doing everything this man needs it to do... it's a purse. Looks manly and cool, doing its job. But it does what my wife's bag does... holds all my stuff for a quick grab and go. And I will be getting one when available!!
Is it waxed canvas with extra stitching? Sorry - I just don’t know much about ripstop canvas and figure others maybe could use a little education on it too.
Oh that gap on the zipper ends we’re going to fix in production. In prototyping we see these things and know they need addressed. You don’t hold up prototyping to fix things you can just make a note to correct.
Blackie..I'm awaiting my Blackbird haversack in the next few days..I have revisited this video and it got me to thinking..watch out now..I saw the drippage on the haversack as you demonstrated water Procurement..perhaps I could use my haversack as a millbank sack in a last ditch effort for my sump. Being that I always have either a bandanna or my millbank bag with me. I have a question for you. I've had the Grayl for sometime now and recently purchased the Pathfinders grayl cup..question is will the grayl millbank bag allow me to nestle the cup underneath the grayl with the GRAYL MILLBANK bag on the grayl?
Hey Blackie, Real genius work! Love this bag but shipping costs to Germany are to high for me to buy one. Well. I think I've got one improvement to the strap: What if you make the opening for the saw blade on the other side so that you can slide it in from the middle part to the attachment at the end of the strap? This way it is sealed up on the bottom and it's impossible that something slides out!? Cheers from Germany! Edit: just watched the squirrel cooker video and it makes sense, that longer objects stick out downwards than out of the middle of the strap. Think I got why the opening is on the bottom 😉
I like the multipurpose design. On the strap length, when throwing it over your head onto your back, how big a person will it accommodate before having to lengthen the strap somehow? I'm tall, skinny, with narrow shoulders so probably no problem. How often will you need to rewaterproof the haversack or is it permanent? On the chest strap, the one I got at the A&N surplus store for the ALICE packs (Med&Lg) is too big and loose for my small chest. Suggestions? (My sewing is horrible)
there will be another run if you go to downndirtywoodscraft@gmail.com and say blackbird 2 next run i will drop you on the list and give you a head start on the next run
Blackie, I went back to comments today from the squirrel cooker covers. And all the likes I did there disappeared. On top of what happened yesterday( every time is go to comments during vid and back,, my like disappeared 5 times
Blackie, any word on when another run of these may happen? I missed out the first time these came out, but this is the best model I have found and I'd love to add one to my kit.
Steel can't be anodized, its an aluminum thing, oxidized aluminum or Aluminum Oxide , your looking at some other type of coating on steel, like some knife manufactures use such as tumbled finish like some of the coatings used on TOPS knives.
if you will email me at downndirtywoodscraft@gmail.com and say in the txt blackbird2 next run i will add you the the next run list and give you a headstart when i am going to do a run

Emmm best if both worlds (more durable rip stop {for those of us that have briars and bramble that likes to cut up plain cotton} and wax to keep water from totally soaking in treated cotton). Just kinda wish the zipper was bigger.
OPSG Here, They are 10.10oz army tent duck rip resistant grid woven canvas fabric that is 12oz after wax treatment. The wax treatment is non toxic and food safe.
yes i will do doing another run of them in october email me at downndirtywoodscraft@gmail.com and say to put you on the list and i will email you when the run is to begin with payment info
it will be under the flap this protype had it on the top side it did ok ..but after being out site tied to a tree all night in a driving heavy rain it did leak a small bit.. so i put it back under the flap for the blackbird 2 it should give you no troubles
@@BLACKIETHOMAS meaning long term water exposure…. How will zipper hold up on long run with intentional water soaking. Would plastic zipper be better ?
Hi Jay here with OPSG. We’re making these for Blackie. We only use YKK brass zippers and they are heavyweight zippers. Long term they are nearly indestructible. As for maintenance if yo put a dab of fixin wax on the zip head and work it in while sitting around the campfire occasionally you’ll never have a problem with it as far as sticking or hanging up.
sold out ..but if you will go to downndirtywoodscraft@gmail.com and say in the txt blackbird2 next run i will add you to the list and let you know when the next run will be
you pay the $85 to reserve it and then i will take your address find the actual shipping to you and send you a email..if the total is too much i understand and will refund the $85

I am glad I get to receive information like this the bag is very impressive. I had been wondering about water proof bags for carrying water
Glad it was helpful!
Holy crap! You’ve designed the Swagman Roll of haversacks.
lol i am trying to make it as good as i can
I like it...!!

Good improvements. Hacks to retrofit the #1 Blackbird? If you or anyone else have ideas on how to attach a top strap to the Blackbird #1 I think many

Hi from Syracuse NY brother thank you for sharing this video and where can I buy this haversack?
By the way, it sounds like you may want to make a strap extension for those that need something longer.
Great video
Thanks!
The military clips can be found at the Army and Navy surplus warehouse
I prefer the zipper on the outside personally.
i might add a rain shield to protect a on the front zipper we shall see
I got to get one of those . Can we get it with a fire retardant and use it for a cook pot as well ? Another outstanding video..

Can the original hold water like that? You probably demo’d in the original video but I don’t remember

It looks like oil cloth
correct factory waxed ripstop canvas
