Great design sir. As you mentioned, it's a prototype. Lot of great suggestions in the comments that could be incorporated in the final product. Definitely have my interest.
Really like the concept and would gladly order one. If your taking suggestions mine would be to put a couple of horizontal attachment straps to each side as well just in case someone wanted to add a small mollie type pouch on the side. My first-aid kit is a small mollie type bag. Other then that I would buy me some of those strap pads from Kaufman and put on it like I did for the blackbird I use. Thanks for your ideas and wisdom of the woodsman.
Great concept. My only suggestion is reduce the fiddly bits by adding one more shoulder strap to the big bag. That way the haversack comes off faster and the shoulder straps stay in place on the knapsack body, leaving both bags fully functional.
Really nice concept, Blackie. I have been appreciating your Ground pounder series, as well. Those G-clips they use on modern bags are pretty slick. Two of those up top of the knapsack would allow quick removal and attachment of the haversack. The strap for the haversack could be run around the sides and bottom of the pack and cinched up. Best of luck with the project!
Brilliant concept, and effectively uses your haversack as part of the system. I do believe most folks will find the double d rings more fiddly than they will be willing to mess with. Looking forward to see where you go with it from here!
👍 Seems like a good concept bag. I will be interested to see the finished product. Waiting on the receipt of my Blackbird II haversack this week or next, if I like that I will consider purchasing this new bag when it is ready.
@@jimstewart5739 Blackie told me a week or so ago that the maker told him he would have all the bags by the end of the month (July - this week); so, I assumed they would ship the 1st week in August (next week).
You nailed it. Less zippers the better. I would be a fan for a roll top on the bag. Less chance of leaks and no mechanical zipper to break or catch on something.
Nice concept, but I've always preferred wearing the haversack at my hip as usual and having separate knapsack/small ruck worn over the haversack strap. The haversack strap is so thin you'll never notice it under the knapsack. When you get to camp, you can just take off the knapsack and walk off with the haversack, no disassembly. I have also preferred one pocket knapsacks, I organise my gear in smaller sacks inside the knapsack, sort of a sack of smaller sacks. But I do like a 2 sack concept, one the scout sack, haversack, the other the camp sack, knapsack. Thanks for a great video.
Hey blackie! I hope this note finds you well and happy! Give your pack a top flap with a pocket just like your Boy Scout Yucca pack, make the flap long enough that it will go over a "blanket roll". Put a grommet "D" ring arrangement to cinch it down (like the Yucca pack). Put a "hatchet sleeve" in the back under the flap. All that "strap through the double "D" ring "bidness" is way too fiddly for me, I'd be cursing and throwing things pretty quick, again look at the strap system on the Yucca pack, it has worked like a charm for 100 years! Make the haversack completely separate, and attach it to the top flap with a couple "D" rings and a couple "dog leash" snap hooks. Put "D" rings along the sides of the main pack, again like the Yucca pack, you can secure a bedroll and you could also cinch up the sides of the pack when it was not going to be completely full. Please forgive me for hijacking your project but as we have noticed before we must have been born under the same star, I built my own pack using a Yucca pack as a base and used it for many years, still grieving over upgrading to an Alice pack! Again sorry for hijacking your project and also for the length of this comment. Regards and best to you and yours, Pink.
I used an ALICE pack for basecamp/deer camp, carried a belt kit/vest instead of a bag when i would woods walk, ( before i knew about haversacks in my teens) but i still like the vest i had set up this pack would augment nicely 😃

I really like the concept Blackie. Looking forward to see the finished bag. Maybe try adding a padded sleeve to go on the shoulder straps that can be taken off when the bags are separated.
Blackie, Knapsack fine idea, would like the option of more molle on the big bag, also don’t care for the colors of your knapsack, prefer an OD Knapsack with earthbrown or dark brown straps….
Looking forward to my Blackbird 2 Haversack. I added the lid off a ILBE to my German alpine ruck sack. It fits it perfectly adding buckles above the buckles in front and the lower part of the shoulder straps for the back. Has a super roomy pocket and covered the top of the pack completely. Almost like it was made for it. Nice contrast with the digital MC woodland top too😉
Blackie get idea I have 3 of youvr haversacks and would like to incorporate what come up with. You have a great mind set just like WC knives can't beat it. Thanks Blackie for your great ideas.👍
Blackie why not use fast tech buckles instead? Easier to remove and return the straps. You could also use a zipper like those used on jackets to attach the haversack to the bigger bag. It would also be nice to have a “steel ring” attached on the front of the haver sack or the bigger bag for flint and steel fires. I like the ideas you have for your gear as they are very practical and useful.

Great little pack, good design concept. For me the disassembly and reassembly looks too much struggle with four times the double D-rings.
