This was my favorite playthrough yet! You both have a great balance of talking through the game strategy and also fun banter ☺️ Please buy my cheap books they're made from PAPYRUS!!!
Was it because I was sad and angry all the time? I felt like I was a bit too much a sore loser when editing this, and I'll try to be better...but Sunniva played so crazy well, that I had no chance!
Glad you liked it :D More playthroughs coming before you know it (Almost a video a day in October :P)
Played it yesterday. Loved it! 8.5 for me.
Love the look and components in this. Can't wait to try it.
Those books!!!!
Amazing playthrough and review!
Thank you so much! We're so happy that you like it!
Great playthrough guys! Great looking game. I do like the theme but agree that it doesn’t really make sense with some of the actions. Probably won’t get to play this for awhile but watching you guys has made it even harder to wait haha.
So glad you liked it, Corey!
Yeah, the game is awesome, and I don’t care about theme, so no worries for me there 😉
Hope you’ll get to play before too long!
This one is high on the can’t wait to play list. Going to check this video out later when done with work. 😊
Hope you'll enjoy the video, and of course the game when you'll get to play it! We really liked it :D
My #1 game I am looking forward to - German version will arrive in December. And I must say I do already love Coimbra with all player counts, but I don't need to compare it too much.
Thanks for the playthrough, makes me even more looking forward to it :)
No, they don't really feel all that alike for me, so I agree that you shouldn't compare too much! December is only a little time aways, and I hope you'll love the game :D
It's cool to have the chapters to go where you want in the video! Thanks!
I love that feature so much! It’s so helpful for viewers 🤩
I had very little interest in this when I first heard about it, but after watching this, I will definitely try it if I get the chance.
It's a great game! :D Hope you'll get to try it out sometime soon!
@@BoardGamingRamblings it's ok its way to me now! Thanks again for the great playthrough and review!
Great job, it was kind of hard to see but the game seems awesome. But it seems like you have to get books all the time, does it feel redundant or not
The bigger games are harder, and I don’t really know how I could do it any better, without many more cameras showing smaller parts of the game. The part where we used black books and put them on out black table...that is all on me 😂 And getting books doesn’t feel reduntant at all, it’s just like any other resource in another eurogame, but more interesting here, because of the different values!
I decided to give Alma Mater a try because a game shop I patron had a very good deal on it. I love it. I also don't have a clue what the best strategy is. It's complex enough to still be interesting after repeated plays.
Oh yeah! Loads of choices! Looking forward to play it again!
This has to be your best play through yet. The dummy player and the dummy! Perfect! It's like Johannes was playing but not doing anything. I do have one question since I've only played it twice. Every time Sunniva went to get money she also moved up the research track. Did she have a special ability or student that allowed her to do this?
Carlos Martinez You only liked this so much because I was horrible 😂 And yes, the student that gives one extra money for each master at the bishop action (take money) also gives you one black research step!
@@BoardGamingRamblings I have to get that student next time. I like it because your acting was brilliant. I really believed you were an angry sore loser. hahahahah! If there's any consolation you did forget to get the money for your books for several rounds.
Coimbra was a solid 7 for us. Would you compare it with Alma in any way?
I haven't played Coimbra for a while, and didn't love it! Liked it, but not loved! I don't think they are very alike, other than a lot of the same artwork and of course same designers! The book mechanisms here is really neat!
Thanks for the review! I really want to play this, but I will probably pass on buying it, as my primary mode of play is (1 or) 2 players, which, though possible with this, seems to be not very ideal, as you made clear.
hello , do you play with the ignotus "third player" ? what do you think about it ? you say that the game is good at 2 players but better for 3 players. In the 2 player game if we use the "ignotus" player it is like you play with 3 players. In my case I will play it only at 2 players , is it a good choice ? thank you.
Hey Fanny! Sorry about the slow response! Yes, as you see in the playthrough, we play with Ignotus! You have to do that in a 2 player game, because you need those 3rd color books to be able to play the game at all.
I will say that the game is ok at 2, but a lot better at 3 and 4 players. A lot of what makes the game interesting (the book economy) is not that interesting with 2 players!
@@BoardGamingRamblings ok thanks you ! Bye
I want this game for Christmas. But it might not be available in SA in time. :(
Hey! Long time, no "see"! Hope you are doing ok :) Christmas is still a little ways away, so, fingers crossed!
Hahahaha watching right now it's really funny him being exasperated over how he's playing. I'm not the greatest loser, but I feel horrible when I lose by a lot, without even getting up and running; if it's a close game I can feel ok about it, specially if there were different strategies involved, or there were some defining moves that were pretty good.
So while I feel the pain, it's funny to watch someone else crumble like this.
Haha, glad to hear! This one was just a decent into oblivion 😂
*just receives a copy of Alma Mater*
*sees BGR post a review of Alma Mater*
*starts sweating*
Brandon Graham Haha, let me know how it feels after you’ve seen our thoughts 😉
@@BoardGamingRamblings Pretty good I think? I make a lot of dumb mistakes in games, so I'll just have to look forward to getting punished by opponents who may be as skilled as Sunniva.
Yes, you will be punished then 🤣
Always passed on buying Lorenzo because it was not as good with 2p as with 3p+. I think I'll also pass on this, since I play mostly at 2p. It's a shame.
I agree! This is not one I would get to play only 2 player!
Looks very boring.
Haha, I don’t agree :D I like it a lot!
If you’re reading this, and you don’t understand it, it’s the mythical Norwegian language you are reading! 😱
