wow that suddenly sounded really good!! i actually did this with a friend about a year ago, but we used 2 pairs of hihats that i got for like 5 dollars
I did this too with 4 or 5 splashes of various sizes from 6" to 10" some with holes already in them and added a bunch of gaff tape. I hated that I lost four cymbals though. This is genius! Sound great!
Excellent go at it. It does sound good. Inspired to use some old cheaper (and cracked) cymbals to have a go as well. Basically tweak cymbals until “nice nice”.. Kudos on your rips on the cans too Thanks!
I just saw Magdalena Bay live the other day and their drummer Nick Villa had a super sick sounding custom stack that looked like 3 cymbals sealed tight with several pieces of metal. (there is a vid on his instagram.) It seems like he works a chrome and truck parts shop as well though, so he might have access to some crazy machinery 😅
I put together a couple of nickle silver high hats, ( a 14" and a 12" ) and topped it with a cheap splash and sounded pretty good. No need for hammering or bending. :-)
Awesome ! ! ! ! Considering everybody's hands wasn't made in Istanbul, how are it needs to sound is by choice acoustically and special effects will do the rest.... Some home made stuff sound better than others ones and can be tweaked......
bruh why are you hammering that in your lap set that on the ground lol. My highschool band used to hoard all the broken cymbals in our schools band room and stack them up, skys the limit with this stuff if you like weird short clappy clangs, you can sett a splash on a crash, you can take 2 broken cymbals and wrap the broken bits around eachother so it deadens at that spot, stack 3 or more, all kinds of fun.
Ayyyy time to put my 15 year old planet z hats to work 🎉🎉🎉 I might also name them crapstack and if anyone asks me about them at gigs or practice, I'll reference you 🙏
Brass kind of sucks with cymbals, although I took a meinl brass ride, heavy and sanded it some then added hammering, and i loved the DRY after effect, still use it on drum set! If it helps, I had used a bench grinder, but you can also use sandpaper of driller to custom cymbals for your liking. Wear safety equipment.
I've been thinking about doin the same thing. After watching this video, how could I not lol. I'll post a video on my channel when I do. I'll be sure to give u a mention.
@@drumswithatom Oh your cymbals must not be the type I'm thinking. I've done it with really cheap thin brass cymbals from the absolute cheapest drumkits
the key to making a clap sound, this or electronic is having several very noisy percussion playing at slightly different pitches, that's why you see in the ones before 3 cymbals together of different size
I took an old beat up splash from a kids toy drumset, and an 8" sabian B8 splash and stacked them together, I shit you not, sounds identical to a clap stack, I'd put money against it.
ayyye sounds sick!
Hey thanks David!! So cool see you here, I’ve been a subscriber for years. I’ll sell it to u for special price of $9000 if u want 😊
@@drumswithatom ill take 12
On the floor wacking 24 cymbals with a hammer as we speak
Ahhhhh,....your not bad at drumming, you suck at thinking and working w hands
If rdavidr thinks it sounds good, it must be amazing
you just saved a lot of money, that clap sounds great
Thanks bro!
Finally a great use for those lousy hi-hats that come with low end kits! That sounds great through both a real mic and the phone. Great job.
Thanks Joseph!
“Does this sound like crap or clap?” Yes
Sick vid and cymbals man! And CHOPS
Yo Steven thank u so much man! For a small channel like mine your kind words go a long way 🥹 CHOPZ
wow that suddenly sounded really good!! i actually did this with a friend about a year ago, but we used 2 pairs of hihats that i got for like 5 dollars
That’s awesome mate! Yeah I wasn’t expecting to get those results that quickly hahaha 😆
A round of applause for the makeshift clap stack👏🏻
👏
UNDERRATED
You have a really good sense of humor and feel like an experienced RUclips, i enjoy this! (and that stack)
Thank you mate!! 😁
Since my band has a lot of those default cymbals, I'll definitely do something like this, thx!
Awesome!! Have fun 😎
Bro i gonne do this to with my old hi hat set a realy nice idea, and realy great Vids men, you do a great job with youre editing.
Yeah go for it bro!! Really happy with how it turned out and so fun to play hahaha. Also thank u so much mate 🙏🤜
Sounds very clap and not crap at all!!!
Awesome bro! 👊
Sounds great! Also very funny sense of humor, subscribed!
Thank you mate!
definitely a promotion from crappy hi-hats to a decent clap stack, nicely done!
Hahaha I’d like to think so too, thanks bro!!
Man I'm liking the sound you created there. I might have to have a rummage see what spare/old/nasty cymbals I have lying around.
Thanks man, lmk how u get on!
I did this too with 4 or 5 splashes of various sizes from 6" to 10" some with holes already in them and added a bunch of gaff tape. I hated that I lost four cymbals though. This is genius! Sound great!
Yeah I get that bro, I was happy to sacrifice these luckily. Thanks!
It sounds so great, one of the most hilarious videos I've watched so far too! Instantly subbed
Excellent go at it. It does sound good. Inspired to use some old cheaper (and cracked) cymbals to have a go as well. Basically tweak cymbals until “nice nice”..
Kudos on your rips on the cans too
Thanks!
I have done the exact same thing! It worked well for me too and is now a permanent addition to my kit!
awesome bro, yeah they're great!
Love the content man keep it up!
And you have a dog haha I love animals😎
Thanks Lucas!! Hahaha yeah dogs are the best 🐶🐶

Just checked it out bro, looks (and sounds) really cool!!
Pretty sure its a Stack Ring Percussion's clap stack. :)
Thinking about doing this with my stock pearl cymbals I got with my roadshow a couple years ago
Sounds awesome. And you got chops man 🙌

Very cool man!! 😁
the chopz tho
Gotta love chopz hahaha
Nicee!!! I have an old pearl beginner hihat I might try this with.
Clap for sure
Hahaha niceee
Nice work, homie! That stack sounds insane!
Thanks my g!
That sounds pretty damn good mate
Dude!! hands and speed nice!!!
Thanks man!!
Entertaining video with great chops... You're like a less edgy Zack Grooves. Enjoying your channel.
Hahaha so glad you’re enjoying. Thank u bro!
Nice drumming! 👌
Thanks a lot!
Your drum set configuration is just making me anxious 😂
Weird but it works 😂
Sounds like a 808 clap 🔥

Phase one: Clap
Phase two: Stack
= Clapstack #technicallynotwrong
🤣🤣🤣
Decent and crap all at the same time. Amazing.
Definitely sounds useable. I’m going to go hunting through my closet now.
Good luck bro!
sounds sick mate!!!...so crappy!!...loved it

@@drumswithatom I made my own yesterday, sounds clapstack
Epic!
Great sound!!!!!
Thanks mate!
love it!
Thanks Joe!
What make/model junk hats did you use; does it matter? I assume these had minimal lathing.
The ones that came with my mapex tornado, no brand 😃
That sounds killer! Are you concerned that it might re-invert itself if you smack it too hard?
Man your crapstack is a fucking genius masterpiece!
Thanks bro!
CLAP CLAP CLAP! Nice, real nice!
Thanks!!
Sounds great to me! The ones I'm looking at are $400+
awesome! just be careful of the CIA and FBI dude
Haha thanks man
Bro made an 808 clap stack lol. Very nice!
Thanks bro!
I handyman I see, using your own lap as a workbench for hammering
Where there’s a will there’s a way 😤🫡
Clap, for sure!
Let’s go! Hahaha thanks Matthew 👊
If Meinl does not produce the crap stack, I'm gonna riot
😂😂😤
This guy🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😼💙
would it be smoother to hammer if I torch the bell?
May be bro! To be honest once I got a big enough hammer it was pretty easy anyway tho hahaha
I'm making my own too now
Nice!
man when i saw this vid in my recommended i thoughtu had thousnads of views, looks like thats now the case, so i subscribed 😭😭😭😭
Thanks bro 🥹 I’m trying 💀 lmao
@@drumswithatom also its "not" not "now" 😭😭, and yea no problem ^^
Where did you learn to play like that?
Hahaha just years of practice bro!
It sounds CLAP!!!!!!
Hahaha let’s goo!
very cool!
Thanks!
why is it so hard to remove the bells with my cymbals 😢
Yep! You actually put in more effort than necessary haha you can just bend cheap thin cymbals over your knee or whatever
Hahaha I actually tried bending it myself first, either the cymbals very strong or I’m very weak 🤣🤣
@@drumswithatom Oh your cymbals must not be the type I'm thinking. I've done it with really cheap thin brass cymbals from the absolute cheapest drumkits
metal fabrication tip: hammering / pounding out metals would be a lot more practical if done on the floor not on our lap :X!
🤣🤣will keep it in mind for next time mate!
Nice !!
Thanks bro!
Yes IS the good job
❤️
If I don't say it someone else will, but those collapsed bells straight up look like assholes. And yet the end product doesn't sound like shit. 10/10.
😂😂😂
when its not tight it sounds like a whip splash, and if its tight enough it sounds like a expensive clap stack.
Noice!
If you want it darker, either throw some tape on that B or leave them outside in the dirt for a month
Thanks man will definitely give tape a go!
Clap FOR SHORE Killer
the key to making a clap sound, this or electronic is having several very noisy percussion playing at slightly different pitches, that's why you see in the ones before 3 cymbals together of different size
Will be interesting to see how it sounds with an extra cymbal mate!
Ok now im going to destroy my cymbals too. I’ll be back
This doesn't sound like a clap because it is an entire SMACK!
Made with Traditional British Cymbal-Making Methods😁
#backbritishcymbalmakers !! 🇬🇧

Hahahaha that’s epic man. Clear evidence that kid’s toy drum sets are the best
I have one of those I can give it to you
U use it bro!
That's a Will Smith Slap! 😁
😂😂😂let’s go!
I can't understand why they wouldn't send everyone free cymbals upon request!? It's not like they are expensive....
Ikr wtf 🤬🤬
NOT CRAP!
Let’s go! 😎🔥
CLAP!!!!
😁😁
this video could've been half the length, but cool i guess
:)
Clap
👏😃
No wayyyyyyyy
😃
Okay...the your homemade clap stack is cool but there are better things I’d spend £999,999,999 on
Brokie mindset bro, need to step it up 😼
Its too bad, the crapstack is *just* outside my price range. Hopefully as technology advances, they'll come down in price by a few dollars
I think u gotta keep saving man, the CrapStack is only going up 📈📈📈
@@drumswithatom damn, I better pick up a few extra gigs then
