If you want to walk around and be stable use a dji pocket 3 but you won’t have photo capabilities. If you want to vlog standing still or minor movement you don’t need ibis and this works fine. You can use this camera with a small gimbal and blow the socks off any camera with ibis. The video capabilities on the camera is off the charts. Great photo quality and Fuji color science, it’s a winner at $799.
Thanks. Learning something today. I am glad that Fuji is improving its AF in video. For some reason, video color looks greenish on my tablet, which is unexpected.
Like the look but not the stabilization in either video. I'd pair it with a gimbal or use a dji osmo which is tailor made for walk and talk. Fuji better suited to photos or static video. I wouldn't use it for video but thats just me. I also get your doing a review of it and as always I find you enjoyable no matter what I think of the camera.
would you recommend this for a first camera for still photography? Im looking for something as compact as possible, I dont mind if fixed lens or interchangeable
Yes, but what’s the point of compactness if you gonna use it with gimbal. Fuji made a mistake marking this camera with the xc 15-45mm kit. The lens OIS sucks if you pair it with 16-80 or 10-24 those lenses have amazing OIS. I tried 16-80 with X-T2 and with the OIS alone looks better than the DIS+OIS from 15-45 in walking shots.
Absolutely. Maybe not for vlogging and filming yourself, but it's a light-weight camera with really good video capabilities. I bought it to use it on my DJI Ronin SC, and it's super easy to balance, small enough to fit an OK microphone on top (Zoom M3 in my case, but any other shotgun mic will work too) and not bump into the arms of the gimbal, and as an added bonus it doesn't drain the battery of the gimbal very much with its low weight. Also doesn't drain the strength in your arms. :D For hand-held filming, not yourself, there's plenty of tips to learn on RUclips on how to stabilize yourself and the camera using only a camera strap, or a mini tripod as a handle. Ironically, one of the target demographics - the walky-talky film-yourself vloggers - may be the ones that need IBIS the most. I am, however, hearing quite a few fellow low-budget videographers within the action sports, climbing and trail running/hiking genre talking about using the X-M5 as a light-weight kit that can be both the tiny video camera and for grabbing very nice stills for promos and art. F-Log2 is very easy to grade, and the helper LUT (not baked into the video, but helps with exposure) is awesome while filming. IBIS is good, but at this price and size... they would have had to make a different compromise, and I don't think I would want to sacrifice the video or photo capabilities for it. I think the X100IV is a good indication of where the price point would fall if they were to add IBIS to such a compact APS-C camera, and it probably wouldn't improve heat management.
Believe it or not Fujifilm IBIS sucks for walking shots anyway but in this new DIS algorithm if you pair it with 10-24mm ultra wide with OIS it’s actually very stable. Check it out.
I mean there are a lot of form of vlogging. Like I can vlog from a desk with the camera mounted. And then I talk about things. Not defending them, but there are a lot of vlogs that wouldn't need IBIS.
the photo is ok .. but compare to Lumix and Sony the video quality is quite shocking. worse than gh3 which was released 10 years ago simplely, if ur taking video more than taking photo, do not buy FUJI
Why fuji? They have 4-5 cameras which more or less do exactly the same thing, in a market were most folks just use a phone. I don't see the point, nothing in this demo is impressive.
Shooting with a phone doesnt have the same feeling as shooting with a fuji. This generation is already towards nostalagia point and shoot and social media creation. make that money Fuji.

Excellent, Lok!
Great review of the Fujifilm X M5! Keep up the detailed reviews!
The cat video should be one test for this camera.
Im giving a like for the absolute style bro has and the video quality!
Thanks for sharing. I hope i do not regret switching to this camera…. Can’t wait for this stock to come.

For actual vlogging, i just can't see the benefits of this type of camera Vs an action camera or insta360....
do i turn OIS on somewhere in settings or it comes with it on by default?
Nice one, Lok!
Being so small and light an smallish gimbal would do the trick.
honestly the stabi is still bad (blurry moments) in this video. But when static it is a very nice image
What is the best wireless mic to use with this camera?
Still need to try out Fujifilm!
would you recommend this for a first camera for still photography? Im looking for something as compact as possible, I dont mind if fixed lens or interchangeable
Interchangeable lens..
Thanks Lok. I think that as a beginner camera, its ok. I got the Sony ZV-E 10ii but not for walking around too much. They work for the price.
That sony zv e 10ii is also beginners camera..🤷♂️

no ibis...no problem...the only people that walk and vlog are youtubers that make videos about vlogging
So true🤣
Hai Lok, does this camera has timelapse in video like S&Q Sony style?😊
What if we use gimbal with xm5?
Will it be usable?
Just get something that actually works like Lumix S9. It also has realtime LUT that works like filmsim

So... it's a PoS.
Looks nice, has many key specs at a decent price, but execution falls apart because of the obvious omission of IBIS.
The price reflects the lack of ibis lack of ibis is part of this market segment
Nice Flat cap!
Fujifilm without IBIS and they called it a vlogging camera?
Don't blame them for following the trend. Panasonic g100, Sony zv e10. The so called vlogging camera

Overhyped or not they are still selling and making $ for the company. 😂
