I've always struggled with Island Design, but watching the way you theorize, plan, test, re-evaluate and tweak various aspects of the terrain is actually really inspiring. The structure you use to make something coherent is something that easily applicable to people like me, who get a bit overwhelmed by it all.

Love this challenge! Suggestion about museum is to create a plaza with fountain diy in front of museum so you can still have 4 wide path leading up to plaza and five wide small section at museum entrance.
Ahhh symmetry… this is my jam! I love the ideas you have with the rivers coming together and a possible waterfall close to the museum. Some big pieces of art or a fountain in front of the museum would look fantastic and tie it all together. the fun thing about natural island layouts is that there are only so many island layouts so if you wanted to keep rerolling when picking a new island you *could* get this layout again, though it could take a long time haha
I like the secret path idea from Museum to the beach. Something you can do when changing path widths is placing items on the transition to make it less jarring. Like if you had had to for the museum you could put a fossil on display or a sign referencing the Museum. Items on a wider path make the usable path match the size of the narrower one to which it connects.
I’m obsessed with this series. Keep it up Dan.

Your favorited villagers could have some small decorative ponds. People don't use little ponds enough in animal crossing New horizons. The only have to be 3 by 3 to spawn fish. And if they're decorative they don't have spawn fish.

You could also narrow the path by lining it with trees or shrubs, or using an archway

Who’s going to tell him you can’t run pathing right up to the door of nooklings?
Maybe you can utilize time skipping to go to another season that has tons of seasonal recipes, that may be useful for decorating the island.
This could all be just one or two days of the island episodes maybe
Or maybe widen the path in front of the museum - 5 wide so that the museum still is in the middle but now the path increases in size- to then widen into the museum itself (as 7 wide)

I know he can’t use custom pathing and that this series is done but for anyone that wants to build a duck pond, what I did was use a custom path that looks like a little pond (just type in pond in the search in the able sisters or if you have the app upgraded). I then used the duck decoy and customized them to look more real.

The only other word I could think of to describe the style of island would be "linear"
I haven’t finished the video yet but you could always path the museum like your houses not directly head on but I’m not sure how that would look I have my path almost directly in front (like your villager homes) but left a few spaces so I could use a three path so it wouldn’t look weird I’m not sure if you get what I’m laying down lol but an idea

you buy paths
they are not diy recipes
therefore you should have to make your own paths with the custom design app 😊
even though you buy them with nook miles
it would be like buying a floor with nook miles which would not be allowed
but other than that I love this series
