From watching these animals on national geographic and discovery channels to finally arriving here - childhood dream has been fulfilled and i must say it is such an enriching experience.
The magical maara will never disappoint you- the animals are not shy and you will get to witness the best sightings of your lives.
We stayed at Ilora Retreats for 4days and 3nights.
It is located inside the Maasai Mara National park and is a luxury camp resort

I would advise everybody to stay inside the National Park - it is more expensive but it is totally worth it
You can come back to your hotel for lunch and dont need to carry any packed lunch...also the big cats are not very active between 1pm to 4pm
Because otherwise the entry gates open at 6am and close at 6 30pm to the park and the gates are about 45mins away from the central area of national park.
I have mentioned about all the fees also in the vlog
During the month of August which is the peak season for Maasai Mara because of the migration season hence the park fees is double which is 200 dollars entry fees for one person for a day.Otherwise during off season it is 100 dollars
There are 3 types of land cruisers that you can hire for your game drives - i would tell everybody to take the open one which we took,dont be worried that it is unsafe because it is not....the animals are not going to jump into the safari vehicle - it never happens.The open vehicle is the best for photography/videography and also gives you the best signtings.
The safari vehicles come with a safari guide and they charge you 200 dollars for a day - you can take a personal ride or you can share it too.
Inside the National park there are no night game drives but if you want to experience night game drives then you can plan to stay in the conservancy area
You can also indulge in activities like hot air balloon rides for 450 dollars which is very steep
But if you are flying down to & fo from nairobi to maasai mara then you can totally skip the hot air balloon ride.
Also no matter how much time you spend in the Maasai Mara it is never enough but 2 full day game drives are a minimum one should experience.
Also during August 1st week it is a good time to plan Maasai mara as the wildebeest migrate - and its quite a spectacle they say.
