If you do a better job cleaning the floor first, you wont have any debris or staples in the glue. when your done gluing the floor, take your knife and cut a small slit in the side of the bucket and run your trowel through it to clean it off. Nice move thinking about wiping the sides of the tiles coming out of the box but a broom works so much better :D When your dealing with door jambs its much easier to undercut them by placing a tile next to the jamb before gluing and just use a jamb saw and cut off the bottom of the casing so the tile slips under and you dont have to do all the mitre cuts and waste so much time. the only time you should need to do that is when you encounter a metal doorway. When using a heat gun. it is recommended to only heat the tile from the back as it will distort the finish on the front side. When the job is complete, Please take the time to use a 75lb or 100lb roller and roll the floor in both directions. this will ensure you get all the air out and ensure the bond with the pressure sensitive glue. Sorry for being critical but in the long run it all helps. but you did a very nice job :D
Wow, what a pro. Nice to see a video from someone who obviously cares about the quality of his work. It shows in the way he did those close-cut tiles, that's amazing. I hope the man is well paid for what he does.
139 people who gave it the thumbs down are obviously the world's greatest ever vinyl floor layers. Me personally this guy knows what he's on about excellent video mate 5 🌟
Thanks so much for the information. So many people can do the job but are not such good teachers. You did very well with both. I especially appreciated the tips such as not pushing installed tiles with your toes, cleaning the edge of the tiles etc. The time you spent showing and explaining the fitting of the radius and such left no question unanswered. I feel much more prepared for the tile job I have ahead of me. Thanks again my friend
Great Freakin Video! Wish I would have watched it yesterday before I did this peel and stick tile job today. Live and Learn. I could have saved 4-5hrs from this job I just did. Great teaching! Thank You Sir!
Going to be laying down my vct tomorrow morning, came back to this video for another final crash course/refresher. Thanks to Creator for the video, and all y’all in the comments. I’m going be alright.
Thanks so much for making this series. I am commenting from my VCT tiled kitchen that I laid with zero experience thanks to your guidance. It is not perfect, but it is FAR from the disaster it would have been if I hadn’t had the help of your videos.
BEST DIY video ever. Thanks for the detailed common sense approach as well as the tips that only come with experience. This was a daunting task that you made easy and I went into it with confidence, enjoyed it, and had great results. THANKS!
thanks man! I don't think you guyz realize how much you are greatly appreciated for these types of videos,my contractor bailed on me once I gave him half of the $ for the job he left the material and then vanished with no work done I believe he's got a pill popping problem so ill be doing this job alone ive removed all the molding and will be going at it soon, your video has been so helpful and I have a little more confidence to go on ahead and get this sucker done, just wanted to say thank you greatly and my best wish's your a true gentlemen thanks!
The best DIY ever! Especially your demonstrations of how to fit the compound cuts so easily. I followed your method and it worked out amazingly well. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I am a 60 year old woman who has taken it upon herself to lay VCT in the main bathroom. This was so educational and thorough. I so appreciate you posting this for people like me. In the next video, would you stop what your doing, which in this video was noisy, and then talk and give instruction? I could not hear what you were saying. LOL. Once gain, thank you so very much. I can't wait until I'm finished and my husband (who has been away all week) will see that I can do things on my own.
I had to lay tile by myself for the first time and had no idea what I was doing. I watched this video and it helped tremendously! Great tips! Thank you so much!!!!
Hey, RR. Thank You for taking the time to share your experience. I watched this video in preparation for an installation where we cut out a wall and the existing tiles in adjacent rooms were two different colors. I had replaced a few damaged VCT tiles before this, but never laid an entire floor. I used this method of measuring and cutting the perimeter tiles. Everything went smooth, quickly, and the new install fits better than the original work.
Great video!! I have to put down some VCT in our washroom (an enclosed porch actually) and have been looking for some information on how to get the job done. I have to say, you nailed it here in your video. You not only showed the process of laying it, but also showed us a few tricks in getting the ends cut. Thanks for posting this and showing us the right way to get it done!
Thank you so much for this great video! This is definitely a great insight on how a PRO puts down VCT. The heat gun trick is wonderful, really makes compound cuts a snap. I used a Milwaukee heat gun with a Lenox Gold razor to just walk through the VCT tiles like butter. My biggest newbie mistake was laying the glue too thick at first, you only need a thin thin 1/16 layer, also watch for "tails" when sweeping with the trowel. Again I cannot thank you enough for sharing this information.
This guy makes more sense than This Old House video. I just wish the closet shot had let me see his marks better. Cool guy. :-D Tattoo makes him more authentic. :-D
Thanks for your video. I subscribed. I live in East 10-E-C North of Knoxville, not far from you. (I think) I've installed these tiles before , but it's been years. Watching your video helps a lot. Thanks
Great video! I've always used snips to trim the tiles, but I love your ideal of a heat gun and razor knife. So simple, and less breakage, I'm sure. Besides the great info, I enjoyed "If you've ever had a train derail by your house". Cracked me up!
Oh man! Thank you SO much for this vid! Especially the method for compound fit measuring makes something so complex way easier. And the heat gun technique is brilliant. Thanks man!
I always lock in the first row on the chalk line with a steel hand roller so it doesn't move. we do large stores all the time and it works best for me and the crew
tip for beginners if there is a gap in between two tiles after you are finished you can scrape/ shave a little bit off of an extra piece of tile and take those shavings and rub them into the floor. This will fill in any gaps. also use a single edge blade rather than a double will lessens the odds of cutting your thumb.
Nice video bro today i installed a floor like the one you did just different color but the way you cut the tile was amazing you know those cuts around doors it always get you trouble you got a new subscriber
that floor should have been skimmed another time and sanded with a buffer . I wonder what that floor looks like now with wax . A lot of people dont understand how important the floor underneath the tile has to be before you even start gluing . other than that good job . i just did 1575 ft of this today . and you always wax it 3 days later to prevent scratching
Best and worse, Job iv seen on RUclips, but it is a long time ago.. back in the day..BUT SAYING THIS, it's probobly still in the hause today. Still looking GOOD.😊
what you make on that job about 300-500 bucks, should be on the higher end you do damn good work, if we all could notch around that doorway like that wouldnt need to undercut them, or that radius technique you use is really good stuff..
very helpfull and informative video, thank you for posting. i love the tips for making the cuts, and i think the carpet knife had better control, good job. and chickens are awesome
Thanks for the video! The tip on how to layout a floor helped me out A LOT! I probably would have wasted a ton of time measuring, marking and doing mock layouts. The same goes for cutting tiles, I would have measured each tile and used squares and straight edges.
Thanks for making this video! It's a big help to folks like me who have never laid VCT before. Why not just undercut the door jam? Seems like it would be easier than cutting around the profile.
Thank you for the video. I am about to do a project and watching this really will save me some time and make the job a lot neater. Subscribing right now.
I put a line down and glue out up to any tricky cuts ie toilet/sink pans. Use normal marking techniques for straight cuts up to skirting. I cut out all door architrave's and again use normall piece of tile or plank width to mark out with around these, or make up paper templates exact size of the flooring to be installed for around pans. Part fit the paper template around pan and pencil around it. Transfer the paper to your tile/plank and cut along the pencil line. Glue in after. No mess.
Excellent job!! I'm about to do part of my garage with vct. I'm working with a square area thankfully. You made the jamb cut look easy but I know better. 😉
Wonderful video! I followed it like a step by step how-to for installing VCT in my bathroom. I have a problem though. I think I waited too long for the glue to dry before laying down the tiles. I used Henry 430 glue and waited about ~3hrs. The glue was tacky but not super sticky when I started putting down tile. The tiles stuck but not strongly and some lift up at the edges. I tried weighing them down overnight with books and other heavy objects but it didn't help. What do you thing I should do? Can I peel up the loose tiles and trowel more glue on the dry glue? I also read somewhere that hitting them with a heat gun could help activate the glue again. Thanks for your help. Awesome video btw.
That's the right glue. It should of been super sticky and the tiles shouldn't lift unless it was really cold in the room. A heat gun will help them lay down.
thank top man. Will let you know how it goes.the old vt are smooth gloss like.thought by sanding it it would give it a key and grip but i think the glue is strong enough but thought i d ask thanks.
Hello! This was an amazing video! Thank you. I did want to ask what product you use for cleaning and sealing the tiles after? Does anyone know? Cannot seem to find a sealer that has VCT.
Excellent video! A lot of great tips. What do you you recommend for going around a drain in the basement floor? Will that 1/8" tile hinder the drain's function? Caulk?
I like the color! How much open time did you have on this glue? I would be nervous that I couldn’t do all the fiddley bits quick enough. Thanks so much!
Great video! looks very nice to! where did you buy the blue tiles @? & do you recomend going over old tiles with new ones being could be asbestos tiles?thank's much!
This by far is the best video I've ever seen!!! I do have a ? I installed feel n stick in my van flooring and it was really cold out side... some of the tile is starting to curve up... Can I pull them up use adhesive compound and put them back down?
You are slicker than goose shit in the rain. I never saw that before, and it's gonna come in real handy today. When we're done, we're gonna know what we're doing, too.
Thanks for the bad ass videos. I came up on some peel and stick and i'm thinking of putting it in my kitchen and hallway. I'm getting mixed opinions on extra adhesive. I'm thinking better safe then sorry. First timer. Whats your opinion???
Thank you for the video. You did a great job of dumb-ing down for those of us who are beginers. I've only watched my boss install my vinyl tile in my kitchen, I've never actually done it but I would like to install it in my bathroom myself. I have mostly square cuts so it should be fairly easy. GREAT! Thank you so much! Love your videos! One last question...can I put a sealer (epoxy or something) over the VCT, I've seen this in my research (people do it in garages or commercial settings for added protection). Thanks again!

as someone who is about to lay the largest vct tile floor ever personally, and hasnt done it in a few years, i thank you for the tips! lol
This is the BEST video for showing everything start to finish... and explaining things in A LOT of detail.

How'd that radius thing work out for ya? Not good, I bet.
Oh man you saved the day for me. Took a job with vct at the end and I was hoping I’d find just the right video. This was it! I owe you a case of beer.
Well, this dude's definitely a tile laying badass. Great video, great tips, much appreciated
Great Freakin Video! Wish I would have watched it yesterday before I did this peel and stick tile job today. Live and Learn. I could have saved 4-5hrs from this job I just did. Great teaching! Thank You Sir!
What would you have done different? I'm getting ready to do the same thing...
Can you elaborate?

very nice , you are lucky to have coordination in both hands and arms , your awesome!!!!!
Thanks for this. Gonna start my job next week. Great info. I love watching pro's at work. Make it look so easy.
This video was good enough to make me go out and bid on a flooring job tomorrow!!!
Excellent job on that floor. I have no idea what you did on the cuts on the door jambs but it's pure genius and it was perfect!
ditto. I kept playing that part over and over and still do not get how he cut it so perfect.
The best DIY ever! Especially your demonstrations of how to fit the compound cuts so easily. I followed your method and it worked out amazingly well. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

You’re still teaching the youngins! I’m 22 and just did my first room
you made that look way easier than it actually is. Great job

Fantastic video. The craftsmanship of your work is great too.
Awesome we recently posted a brief overview of our VCT Installation
Great video!
I certainly appreciate the help I got from this video. Your going to make my life a lot easier tomorrow!
that door jam and radius cut was perfect...good shit
This guy is a beast I wish I had someone as great as him to learn from
It's crazy because this is way harder than it looks. Great video.
This guy makes more sense than This Old House video. I just wish the closet shot had let me see his marks better. Cool guy. :-D Tattoo makes him more authentic. :-D
Easier to undercut the jambs before you begin ,but more than one way to skin a cat ,good job brother!!
Thanks for your video. I subscribed. I live in East 10-E-C North of Knoxville, not far from you. (I think)

VCT tile is so beautiful and simple. Love the variety of colors it comes in.
Thanks we are about to attempt my kitchen floor and this was a huge help. Took away some of my fear of doing it.
Doing my first one in the coming week or two after that video I feel much better and now I know it's using my heat gun nice easy cuts
Very nice sharing zabdast video wonderful work
How amazing to watch a pro do a fantastic job wish you were here in Liverpool England.

Good to know... Thank YOU for sharing that tip.
Excellent video. It will be a huge help when I re-floor our kitchen. Plan to install over a new luan underlayment. Thanks a lot.
Luan is for walls, DO NOT use it as floor underlayment!
That compound cut was bad-ass!! Nice job!!

I'll be doing this in a small room next week, thank you for posting such an informative video!
Best install video for vct, bar none. Thanks for the post!

IF YOU DON'T HAVE A HEAT GUN A HAIRDRYER ALSO WORKS FOR VINYL TILE JUST TAKES TAKES A LITTLE LONGER TO HEAT UP. GREAT VIDEO. THANKS
Why are you yelling?
nice idea! i was thinking about that earlier.
How about a microwave?
Is this more strong material than the long vinyl planks? And this doesn't use any glue or foam underneath?
l just left ER! l almost cut my numb off watching this magic man! #witharazor!

great video still having a little trouble figuring out the door casing cut but you helped alot
@RedneckResponder OUTSTANDING video that saved me $2k. Thank You.
thank top man. Will let you know how it goes.the old vt are smooth gloss like.thought by sanding it it would give it a key and grip but i think the glue is strong enough but thought i d ask thanks.
You make it look so easy.
Great video! I am buying some of these tiles in the next few weeks.Wish u had a video of these tiles laid diagonally.
Caulk?
I just have a small repair project, but you sure seem to know what you're talking about!
"You don't want to breathe too much of the smoke." good advice.
I like the color! How much open time did you have on this glue? I would be nervous that I couldn’t do all the fiddley bits quick enough. Thanks so much!
Ambidexterity! Thanks for the great video, dude!
Great video! looks very nice to! where did you buy the blue tiles @? & do you recomend going over old tiles with new ones being could be asbestos tiles?thank's much!
Thank you for the video, it was very helpful step by step.👍🏾
This by far is the best video I've ever seen!!! I do have a ? I installed feel n stick in my van flooring and it was really cold out side... some of the tile is starting to curve up... Can I pull them up use adhesive compound and put them back down?
Nice video Very informative. But what size trail did you use size of notch. Also how did you remove old glue from concrete?
old glue is usually removed with a razor blade scraper and fill in any holes with a patch before applying new glue
Thanks for posting this. You made it look easy!
Any precautions in laying new vct over old and ugly vct that is structurally intact and not peeling up? Basically we want a new color lets say
Thanks, doing one today and wanted refresher course. Is it almost always done switching direction on every tile?
You are slicker than goose shit in the rain. I never saw that before, and it's gonna come in real handy today. When we're done, we're gonna know what we're doing, too.
Hi very nice job on that radius.
Great tips and great job. Thanks for sharing with me!
Great vid iv just started fitting this stuff after doing a lvt course gives me a lot of confidence on cutting corners pardon the pun lol
Would a normal hair dryer work in place of what you used, set on high or will it not be able to get hot enough to have the same effect? Also, what kind of razor blade did you use? It looks like a carpet blade to me. Would a normal razor work just as well?
Thank you.
Fantastic upload! Thank you!
😅 Not the kind in a bar LOL LOL
GREAT! Thank you so much! Love your videos! One last question...can I put a sealer (epoxy or something) over the VCT, I've seen this in my research (people do it in garages or commercial settings for added protection). Thanks again!
First of all, Thanks for this Bad ass video. I came up on some peel and stick vinyl tile. I'm putting it on concrete in my kitchen and hallway. I've found mixed opinions about extra adhesive. I'm thinking better to be safe then sorry, but I really don't know. First timer. Whats you opinion???
This stuff is a good cheap very durable floor...you can easily mix and match colors...
outstanding work!
This is gonna help me tomorrow. Thanks.
Learned alot, kinda wished you went over your method for the cuts a little better you can't see the lines like you said. Awesome video thank you!
So, I've never done this before and am female so did not grow up doing these kinds of projects. I understand the measurements in the beginning (with the chalk line) but not sure why or how you figured on not going all the way up to the door when you started laying the tile. Please enlighten and thanks loads for the video!
If I am just paying one box (45sqft) how much adhesive would you recommend to buy? I am used to regular tiling but VCT is new to me.
Excellent demo
I have epoxy garage paint in the area I want to tile with the vct. Do I need to sand this off or grind it? Will the glue adhere to the epoxy if it's not coming up?
