This was 1998. I had just wrecked my first car and didn't really want to do much so my friends decided to take me to a show. We got completely lost trying to find this little, old school house. We finally find this place and walk in to a tiny room filled with late 90s punks. The walls were lined with tables handing out stickers and selling merchandise. There were maybe 50-75 people huddled around the bands. And to this day, it's one of the best shows that I've ever been to.
I've been going to DIY shows for 15 years now and let me tell you, this energy still exists. You gotta know where to look. Maps and Atlases at a college co-op in Austin, TX sometime in 2009. B L A C K I E in my friends mom's living room 2010. Tera Melos in a parking garage 2008. Lightning Bolt in an derelict attic Downtown Houston 2006 and on a rooftop Midtown Houston 2011. Any Deerhoof show ever.
I was there and involved in this show. Bill was Dawson High, The Juliana Theory, At The Drive-In, and Knapsack. It cost a few bucks. Yes, I am spoiled by setting up and being a part of this scene. Another show I saw Jimmy Eat World and The Get Up Kids in a little place in Pittsburgh for $4 and I helped setup the equipment. Played darts with them afterwards and interviewed JEW in their van. If I told you the hundreds of shows I've seen for free or $6 or less you'd think I was lying.
this video captures a bit of what it's like to be in the moment, playing songs you wrote yourselves in a live show with your band, even if only like 5 people are there watching and you're playing in some random schoolhouse in the middle of nowhere... it's such a rush. better than any drug. people who have never been in a band could never understand this feeling.
I remember when this was once considered the "holy grail" of lost ATDI footage. Just recently, someone uploaded a video from 1995, wherein cedrick and jim where playing in front of maybe 30 people at UTEP's student union theater. godbless youtube.
I wish more bands played like this: loose and raw enough to be energetic and exciting, but melodic enough to avoid sounding like a load of random bullshit.
just FYI - this is from the tour with Knapsack. It is from Greensburg, PA it is NOT from El Paso, Texas. I have the master and filmed this show and will try to upload it one of these days.
I'm so glad I got to see them at least once, even though I was probably like 10 when this was filmed, being a El Paso native, it's awesome to see such talent come from my hometown.
Damn, ATDI was just way ahead in style & everything musically. Most bands at this time were all in a gerne of some type & nu metal was taking off, but these dudes were keeping real dancing their ass off James Brown moves & rocking out hard as fuck while bands like Korn were just bobbin their heads slowly. Cedric & Omar just look awesome af palying live. Good stuff here.
The dancing and energy during Chanbara was what set them apart from all other bands. They were hip enough to take from all the dopest influences and create their own lane. And Cedric's hair is suave lol 🤣🤣🤣
+scott helstrom Yup, Cedric was also really into Brainiac who also had a very charismatic front man. These guys were just into some really cool music for their age.
@4dharm Ah cool, thanks for the location and date. Yeah like I said I'd no idea if this was considered "rare" any more since they unearthed it on The Comatorium however many years back, but as I say I've not been on that site in years, since it became overrun with fanboys and TMV disappeared up Omar's arse. Thanks again, if you ever find the full show let me know!
@GreyT69 They ARE back together. It's not a rumour at all. They confirmed it on Twitter and have already planned some shows. Possibly even new material. I hope so, they're the best.
@GreyT69 I'd love to seem them, for some reason I think they'll play a few shows and they split up for good. I'd love if they recorded another album but I can't see that happening, tbh :(I just can't imagine them coming over here (England) too, just seems way too unlikely. I've only been a fan for about two years. I still listen to them regulary, In/Casino/Out is my favourite ATDI record. I'll have to keep updated about the tour dates too.
It's a center piece for a 45 7inch. Old 7 inches had a big hole where you'd have to put a plastic disc in the middle so it would fit around then pin of a turntable. You can see it better in other shows, plus I asked him/he showed it to me up close at a TMV show in 2005 Austin.
esta de bolas, que buen material gracias !!!!!! y si estan de regreso que bueno en hora buena, haber si los intereses y las mamonidades de varios no chocan pero en hora buena
no but the head is super wide lol. jimmy has one too. are they just plexis but the image is stretched? why is omars plexi as wide as a marshall TALL cab on its SIDE? @@MercurialSilence
They're from El Paso, but this show was in Greensburg PA, as confirmed by a couple of people in the comments including the guy who filmed it (allegedly, but no reason to doubt him). The lineup was Dawson High, The Juliana Theory, At The Drive-In and Knapsack, 8th October 1998. Someone posted the Knapsack set down in the comments; in fact I'll put it in the video description.

I used to live in Greensburg. why were they in Greensburg?
@@Frip36 When you're booking DIY tours you take what you can get. Probably wanted Pittsburgh and someone offered them this and they took it.
@@FonzoDangus I’m from Houston and I wish I knew about these underground shows omfggggg
any band playing with this level of energy in a venue like this gets loads of respect from me
love seeing rogue roachdoggs

So weird seeing Cedric with that hair.
One of the best bands ever. Great find. Made me feel 18 again. Thanks.
1:45 - he's trying so hard not to make those salsa moves, like "it's not the time, yet"

Cedric was like the David Lee Roth of hardcore. He owned that little stage

Check Oh Sees KEXP 2017 Performance !
i would literally give every possession i have for a trip in a time machine to this show. literally everything. memories are better.
16:30 Cedric singing without the microphone reminds me that these guys really just were playing for the sheer joy of it.

This should be a workout video.
the best ever. alot of bands could learn from watching this video. you can never be too much into what you do.
love how they just went right into chanbara from alpha centauri, did not expect that
he can moonwalk with a salsa mix. Cedric is definitely locked in my top ten of perfofmers. he is right up there with the greats. amazing
Same and I loved it. Totally wasn’t expecting that transition but it was ace!
Cedric carefully winding back the mic cable in the transition :)
Favourite youtube video of all time! Please, never take it down.
Seeing them play A Devil Among the Tailors makes me so happy
One of the most memorable and best live performances ever.
When you were simply in a league of your own and utterly nothing, at this point in time could remotely touch you, musical genius personified.
I can’t believe I’m watching this. Seeing legends in their infancy. Unreal. Cedric and Omar don’t event have their fros yet 😭
I'm so glad I got to see them at least once, even though I was probably like 10 when this was filmed, being a El Paso native, it's awesome to see such talent come from my hometown.

What's your point? I like this band and some nu-metal shit equally.
why would korn be playing like this when their music is supposed to be slow and depressing
1:04 Playing piano with the microphone ahaha {::>_
FUCK YES living/dying for this video right now. YT is the most incredible entertainment resource of all time - without rival

Petition to Get the Library of Congress to preserve this?
Fucking awesome. This is up there with the best of 'em for live performances.
Glad I found this, I'm young again!
the comatorium used to be my FB!
the real ATDI
Yup. Saw them on the acrobatic tenement tour, when they came back on the In Casino Out tour they were already indie legends.
he looks sooooo sosososos different with short hair
I love how they kept up the stage energy for 20 plus years
This was one of the bands that should've been more significant in the history of rock music.
how does something like this even get arranged haha love it
Tony is fucking SOLID here. A Devil Among the Tailors is chaos unleashed.

This is amazing. Lopsided is fucking magical
They have so much talent. They are really good, yet really underground

It Was Filmed On The UTEP Campus In El Paso.
Is that Omar on vocals or Hispanic Joseph Gordon Leavitt? I'm confused...
cedric?
Definitely the Hispanic Joseph Gordon Levitt! Lol!
Josue Gardon Leyva? : D
Why can't we have both??? (insert little taco girl)
Seeing Cedric and Omar with buzzcuts is very uncanny.
wow I'm their age. If I was there back then my life as a musician would have made a totally different turn.

Wait, Cedric and Omar weren't born inherently with afros?
My only hope in life is that I never get stuck in a lift with the 5 people who don't think this is cool.
What I'd pay to be in that classroom
playing in a school classroom didnt hint at that enough? hahaha
Why did I have to be 5 when this was happening
for those in el paso, wasn't this tape shot in a classroom at loretto of all places?
Anyone e got the Setlist?
what is that super wide amp omar has?
