      Still Ultima from Final Fantasy XVI explores both literal and metaphorical kinds of a god not only beign just a mythological kind. Exploring the concept of divine in a not so complicated and not so obvious way, making it part of the main plot and not sound so obvious and making the Discovery and uncovering its origins more worth it. And Chakravartin just reveal itself right in the ending, and almost no mentioning about or clue of its coming, just like in Final Fantasy 9 with Necron showing up in the ending, only difference is that its not a turn based kind of battle. Ultima boss fight is equally or even more, in my opinion, epic and glorious then Chakravartin. And the finally Ultima does not come in a full priced DLC that you had to wait till for how long and the story does not end incomplete like "to be continued", literally. Those are some of my points for why i think Ultima from Final Fantasy XVI works better than Chakravartin, still an epic battle and villain the many armed Buddha like dude but its just my opinion. Ok?

    Fun fact, Hades was, indeed, a blacksmith. He was not as good as Hephaistos, the god of blacksmiths, be he did enjoy it as a hobby to take his mind off the way he was treated so awfuly by the rest of the pantheon. Look at it that way, if there was a god of cards, it wouldn't means other gods couldn't play cards. Though, their fight is ALSO hard as balls, since they have attacks that hit your whole front row, and can lock your wheel down so you can't cure status effects. Even though it didn't make it on the list, I'm happy that Void Termina was acknowledged in the number transition. I consider the final fight against it in the highest difficulty of Kirby Star Allies' arena mode to be the best Kirby boss, and given the kinds of final battles Kirby has on a regular basis, _that's saying a lot_. Not only is the fight itself pretty fun and varied (and the music really good, with the final phase having a rather somber track that lasts 6 minutes by itself), but the idea of Void reincarnating in different forms depending on the amount of positive and negative energy gathered is super fascinating from a lore perspective (and also implies that Void might turn into a 2nd Kirby-like being because of the core mimicking Kirby's face, which is wild).

    • @Shalakor
      @Shalakor Год назад

      I've always interpreted Void Termina being literally another incarnation of Kirby, with time/space shenanigans in play. As in, Kirby defeating Void Termina in the present of that game leading to his own creation as the Kirby that showed up at the beginning of the series in the past, and/or Void Termina being the Kirby of a different dimensional causality.

    • @C_Arson
      @C_Arson Год назад +2

      @@Shalakor Personally, I've never seen Void as literally being the same entity as Kirby. To me, Kirby seems related to Void in a similar sense to how Tigers and Leopards are related (they're both mammals/cats, but otherwise distinct animals). I think this way because while Kirby is a being of seemingly infinite possibilities (like Void) with his copy ability, his powers by default aren't as grandiose, which suggests to me that the two aren't quite the same. Plus, while the connection to Kirby during Void's boss fight is very clear, it feels more symbolic of Void being inspired by Kirby's heart rather than it being literally the same Kirby we know and love. The boss fight music heavily uses Green Greens, which is indeed Kirby's theme, but it also heavily uses the Song of Supplication, a theme associated with Hyness's Religion, which indicates Void becoming what Hyness wanted it to be: a vengeful God that would smite the universe out of bitter rage. Likewise, Green Greens indicates Void starting to become what Kirby wants it to be: a friend.
      Regardless, I think the fact tha we're having this discussion is proof of how awesome and interesting Void is as a concept.

    Okay
    I'm already at Number 10 and I immediately wanna say this:
    I've fought Number 10 twice in this game Josh is talking about (not saying for spoiler reasons).
    Simply put, I beat the boss on my personal file, receiving the reward for it...
    And then my friend wanted to beat the boss himself, but couldn't, so he asked me to take them down when he learned I did so.
    Simply put, squaring off against the boss twice and coming out on top both times (with fewer tries the second time) was so very satisfying because it felt like I'd taken down almost everything the game had to offer (minus the sidequests, which, given I decided to start over, means I won't have 100%...yet)

    TLDR: Inominat has the power to manipulate the hearts and minds of the people, Arthur (the main antagonist) Sacrificed Velvet's brother Laphicet to give Inominat a new body which set off the events of the whole game, he also set up Therion demons who would feed off the wild roaming demons and generate limitless malevolence for Inominat to feed off and grow stronger. Later Arthur is able to use Inominat to suppress the wills of an entire city, causing them to only live for practicality and not emotion. Including one guy throwing himself off a cliff for not being useful.
    So of course the final boss is Arthur, then Arthur fused with Inominat. Plenty of powerful attacks, you need to be constantly on your toes, dodging and striking when you have the chance. It's borderline unfair at points but once you finish it you get one of the best endings in gaming history.

    One honorable mention I'd like to bring up is YHVH from Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse. In a series where you collect and fight gods like trading cards (sometimes literally), YHVH is special in a few ways. First, he's one of two bosses in the game who uses fully animated 3D models instead of 2D sprites, which is already jarring enough - the only other character who does that is Shesha, who I'm made to understand is the entity who destroys all of creation at the end of each cycle. Second, he's the ONLY fight in the game (aside from the DLC fight against the superboss Stephen) in which you swap back and forth between two parties in order to fight him. You and your demons alone don't cut it, you need the help of the cast of the previous game (two of whom were previously the leaders of the Law and Chaos factions, and also the final bosses of their game).
    Lastly, you don't fight him in the way you fight everything else. You can't just hit him really hard, partly because he resists *everything* except Almighty - forcing you to use a special ability to slowly lower his resistances in order to be able to do damage with anyone other than your main character - but also because he's different from every other demon in the game. You have to use the human power of "Understanding" and, either by yourself or with the help of your allies, refute every claim he makes to godhood in order to lower him to the level of a demon. You have to reject every lie and excuse he makes and expose him for what he truly is, literally altering reality in order to make him vulnerable. And when you finally do whittle him down, he goes from the infinite golden visage of the almighty to just another demon, albeit a terrifying one that can wipe you off the face of the universe if you aren't careful (and sometimes even if you are). He's one of the hardest mandatory bosses in SMT, and he really makes you feel like you're confronting the lord almighty.
    Also anyone who tries to say his name gets censored by the universe itself. Nobody else in SMT history has ever gotten that treatment. That alone speaks volumes if you ask me.

    i have a particular interpretation of chakravartin having his own qtes that i'm surprised i don't see elsewhere, but to be fair it has to do with a somewhat uncommon idea in gaming that the real world is a higher plain of reality inhabited by beyond god like beings compared to even god like beings in video games themselves, and by applying this to chakravartin, him having access to the players mechanics means he is so godlike that he's on our level, that his true form is practically a real person.

    7:35 - Also give the assist on that to Reyn, since he also constantly pushed Shulk toward freeing Zanza. Now I know the reason for this was that in the original cut of the story, Reyn was going to be the Disciple and not Dickson (literally the reason why he kept telling Shulk to stop overthinking things). But they changed it at the last minute because they felt that it would be cruel to cut the party by two members (Reyn and Sharla, who would've been killed by Reyn in the reveal) during the last act of the story.
    So because of the change he wasn't a villain anymore, just a moron.

      I honestly prefer the role Reyn got.
      Spoiler for Future Redeemed.
      While yes, he comes off as an idiot, but he's an idiot with a heart of gold. Always willing to throw himself in the line of fire for the sake of his friends. And let's not forget how he, of all people, manages to understand and console Sharla the most. Not only that, but he also was a skilled warrior in the war that predates 3, and even has a daughter with Sharla, who is shown to take after both her parents quite well, a hard-headed fighter as well as a skilled medic.

    • @SBaby
      @SBaby 10 месяцев назад

      @@AzureMoebius22 I was talking more about the base Xenoblade Chronicles, without any of the expansion or sequel stuff. The original cut of the story is ultimately WHY Reyn seemed so intent on driving Shulk to realize his vision and end up with Zanza, even though there was clearly something more going on if anyone bothers to think about it for more than five seconds (it was also why Reyn was playing with the Monado in the beginning of the game; he was checking to see what it could and couldn't damage in order to gauge where it stood in terms of it's overall power).
      It was ultimately changed to Dickson being the heel and Reyn just being an idiot, and probably for the best since you'd be down two party members for the last act of the game if they'd gone with this as the plot twist (Reyn for the betrayal, and Sharla because she would've died to Reyn in order to make you want to kill him). Which means you'd not only be losing a tank, but your best healer as well.

    • @AzureMoebius22
      @AzureMoebius22 10 месяцев назад +2

      @@SBaby Ah, my error.
      Either way, I also think Dickson does work better as the heel. Partly due to his seemingly limitless knowledge about the Bionis and his turn seems to have more of an impact than Reyn would have.
      Plus we have that famous moment after the fight with him, he doesn't want to give Shulk and the others the satisfaction of defeating him, but deep down he seems rather proud of how far Shulk has come and even believes that he can actually win against Zanza.
      On the note of Zanza's disciples, I'm wondering if the fight with Lorithia was made bad on purpose. Originally I just thought it was a balance issue or something, but no that fight's crappiness made its way into DE. Maybe the fight was intentionally made to be unfun to make Lorithia that much more hated.

    I'm... not entirely sure how much it counts, but the final boss of Mary Skelter Nightmares is a fight of _epic_ proportions. (Spoilers ahead)
    So... Snark. We hear about this dude _constantly_ throughout the game. The King of Nightmares, an unstoppable force that the Blood Team is repeatedly told to not fight against and to simply run away from. Eventually, we learn that Professor Tohjima, the man we (kinda) trusted since the beginning of the game, actually _is_ Snark... and is also an alien... and is also abysmally weak. He was hyping himself up _on purpose_ so that we would avoid him and let his plans go unhindered. Those plans? Use the white core that lays within the Jail's moon to become a god that would be able to recreate his dying homeworld; a task that was _supposed_ to be pulled off with the Theophil seeds alone, but was thwarted by their assimilation of human stories and concepts.
    And he actually kinda _succeeds._ When he uses the power of the Witchcraft (the white core in question), two things happen. One, Hikari (a sweet human girl that you meet at the start of the game and then reunite with near the end) is transformed into an angelic being _quite literally called a goddess_ on multiple accounts. Two, the Jail Nightmare is born: Snark fused with _the Jail Tower itself_ and that could very well pull off his desire to terraform the Earth for his people. And the fight is _utterly insane,_ utilizing a mechanic that was only utilized once before in the game: giant boss fights. As one may expect from a living tower, the Jail Nightmare is _gigantic,_ forcing the Blood Team to climb up to the top and chop away at him until he's no more. And as... easy to break as these giant battles are, the sheer scale remains unmatched through both of the game's sequels. You need Hikari's help to even _fight_ this thing, her creating the floating platforms you go between to slice this thing apart. And it has some very powerful attacks too, including Felony, an AOE magic attack that completely destroys any attempts at cheesing the fight with Cover.
    TL;DR: Go play Mary Skelter. The games are really fun and can even be kinda brutal sometimes, the characters are incredible, the OST is _god-tier,_ and it just kinda becomes a freaking _horror game_ at times, which is really cool for an Etrian Odyssey style dungeon crawler.

    If i made a list like that i would had made a bit different, like i would choose for number 2 most of the god boss fights of God of War from the Greek and Nordic sagas, and number 1 Ultima from Final Fantasy 16 cause from what i saw and understand he totally fits the description. Literally and metaphorically. Exploring the concept of divine in a not so complicated and not so obvious way, making it part of the main plot and not sound so obvious and making the its discovery and uncovering its origins more worth it. Chakravartin only reveals itself right in the ending, sort of, and almost no mentioning about or clue of its coming, just like in Final Fantasy 9 with Necron showing up in the ending, only difference is that its not a turn based kind of battle. Ultima boss fight is equally or even more, in my opinion, epic and glorious then Chakravartin. And the finally Ultima does not come in a full priced DLC that you had to wait till for how long and the story does not end incomplete like "to be continued", literally. Those are some of my points for why i think Ultima from Final Fantasy XVI works better than Chakravartin and why it should had been on this list, still an epic battle and villain the many armed Buddha like dude. Its just my opinion. Ok? With all due respect. Just my opinion. Ok?
