Cole Palmer recently got named England Men’s Player of the Year and that has led to mixed reactions from fans. Some are happy that he won it, some have said Jude Bellingham deserved it more, while others have said it should have gone to Phil Foden or Bukayo Saka.
The truth is that you can make an argument for each of these players, but that’s not even our focus today. This debate reveals a much bigger problem in the England national team, and it is the big picture we are interested in in this video.

Palmer for me he proved himself in the UEFA EUROS off the bench.
Palmer was on the bench in the euros AND STILL proved himself. He’s going to be a great player and dare I say one of the best in the near future

saka is a consistent right winger, jude plays best as a roaming 8. the only "dilemmatic" position is the 10, and palmer is clearly winning here. sorry city fans, but foden haven't yet proven that he can replicate his club form. on the left wing it depends how carsley wants to use his fullback, grealish or sancho would complement an overlapping style fullback while gordon will fits well with an inverting fullback.

Forget Plamer being their obvious choice, why do they keep shoehorning Bellingham as a 10 when it's clear he's an 8? When that fails, they move Foden to 10. And that fails too and then what. They play both as 10s/SS or move Jude to LW, and that failed too. They do anything but play Palmer as a 10, why? I'd love to know. It's simple. They know if they tried that, Palmer would absolutely kill it and make it his own. That's the point. They chose Foden and Jude as their golden boys, so they're trying to find a way to fit both or make them the engine of the team and it isn't working. It's clear Jude has to play but why 10 or LW? It makes no sense.

Foden is literally on FRAUD watch for England. He literally looks lost without having Pep, KDB, Rodri, and Haaland in front of him. Heck, even I would play good with that around me.

I think Palmer should get the 10. He has produced much better numbers playing in a much worse club, and even keeping numbers aside, he has actually AFFECTED the play; properly proved himself.
England should build the team around Palmer and Saka

0:51 I'd argue that Foden cannot become a playmaker from the wing or centrally. Foden is usually utilized as a goal scoring threat which you can see in Manchester City's 23/24 campaign. He does offer some fluidity to the attack when he's not banging one top corner from 25 yards out but his playmaking is not world class such as Saka's, Bellingham's or Palmer's. Foden usually requires a player that can break lines to find him in those pockets of space where he can turn and take his shot off. The player who did this for Foden was Rodri. In England's system, (especially during the EUROs) Foden was extremely lacklustre due to having a much more defensive and safe minded DM behind him being Rice but the team as a whole was struggling to create chances due to how Southgate tacitcally set it up. But, in this new season Foden has been struggling aswell even in an attacking side such as Manchester City. Why? Because Rodri isn't available and he's the player who can feed Foden and let him do his magic.
De Bruyne spent 7 months out injured and still had more assists than Foden in the same man city team lol

The strange thing is that playing eleven world class players worked for the 98/00 winning French team and the 02 winning Brazilian team. They managed to work it out. I can see why Eriksen and Capello thought they could do the same. Why can’t England get the job done?

England always have a "problem" to excuse themselves for not winning tournaments they have the talent to win. Spain had Xavi, Iniesta, Xabi Alonso, David Silva, Cesc Fabregas, & they made it work.

Sancho on the left, Palmer 10, Saka on the right. Bellingham 8 box to box beside holding 6 Rice. Foden on the bench as an impact player with the likes of Grealish.
Your conclusion makes no sense. Bellingham plays central midfield, okay then is this a 4-3-3 with a lone 6 and two central midfielders? Or is this a 4-2-3-1 with Bellingham as a 6 that goes forward? In that case is Rice supposed to carry the 6 responsibility when he has proven to be much better as an 8? Playing with a 10 and two 8s doesn't make any sense unless you want a 4-4-2 diamond, and then you won't be able to play Saka in his preferred position. Someone make it make sense.

As a #10? between Palmer and Foden? Palmer. Ultra-talented as he is, Foden hasn't proven himself to be capable of excelling outside the system he grew up in, namely, Pep Guardiola's strict positional system. International football is, by necessity, relational. Foden plays really well with Bernardo Silva or Kevin De Bruyne. He doesn't play well with neither Saka nor Bellingham. Palmer, curiously enough, is able to play with those men, and he came from exactly the same system as Foden. But his game is much more relational.
