Swanee river was originally a folk song called the old the folks at home, but Albert Ammons made it his own during the famous piano concert at Carnegie Hall where he played alongside other giants of boogie-woogie Pete Johnson and Meade lux Lewis in 1938.

In my top 3 list of the song Swanee River, there is definitely the version of Fats Dominoo. I was at his live performance in New York in 1968. This was great. Too bad I never found an LP, cassette or CD.

Hi there,
there are two other versions I would like to mention.
The first one was recorded just lately by Stefan Ulbricht during his Corona "vacation":

I really like this version with the slow start.
Stefan is often playing together with Jörg Hegemann. Before Corona hit us, they were giving free concerts at Sonjas in Bonn, Germany every Wednesday. Hopefully they will continue with this. So if you are around, it is always worth a visit.

Maximilian Neuhaus Some great versions, I forget about Eeco’s version, even though it was his original version I used to learn the song myself many years ago on RUclips. At the time there was very little to choose from but Eeco has remained a huge influence. He does some wonderful live streams too. Thanks for the heads up on the live performance too.

There are surely other boogie woogie players they are faster, more flashy but none of them can match Dr. John's unique touch, feel and blues licks.

The original was not a folk song but was written by Stephen Foster, commissioned for Christie’s Minstrels before the civil war.

Well I'm thanking you for the marvelous amount of players that you have shown in this vidio as I'm stuk on the side of Dyshart Rd about half a kilometer from Emily street at Seymour Vic Australia as having been evicted from ower farm after the landlord had past away n'd now are living from week to week and being given some supplies from the Salvoes to live as I'm in my vehicle n'd my daughter is her caravan having just enough to survive and having the likes of you and others to entertain us helps to pass the time and makes it just a little more enjoyable to bare the uncomfort way of living thanks verry much fantastic viewing far better than the idiot box to watch.!
