There are a few ways: If it's for myself I will measure the areas with the elastic and stretch to the point that is comfortable for me. If it's for someone else you can have them measure the area with a measuring tape and then make the elastic a little smaller. Or you can buy a similar item and measure the elastic. Hope this helps!

I have a walking foot for my regular sewing machine it does a decent job. The tips on how to judge the elastic for pinning are great!
