The Game That UCF Beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa

- On October 28, 2000 UCF picked up their biggest win in program history (at the time) by going into Tuscaloosa and taking down the Alabama Crimson Tide in a thrilling game. The combination of a sloppy 5 turnover game by Alabama and a strong performance from UCF QB Ryan Schneider (283 Yards and 3 Touchdowns) propelled the Golden Knights to a 40-38 win. After going down 37-24 in the fourth quarter, Alabama stormed back to take a 38-37 lead in the final minutes, but UCF responded by driving down the field and kicking a game winning field goal to shock Alabama in the final seconds. UCF currently leads the all time series with Alabama 1-0.

Andrew Zow… was not Alabama’s best quarterback. It is pretty crazy that UCF is 1-0 against Alabama all time. How do you guys think the game would’ve gone if the two teams played in 2017 when UCF went 13-0?
Easy national champions 😤
I think Bama would have won 30-17
Ucf would’ve won 24-23 Bama misses a field goal
I don’t know
Alabama 45 Ucf 17
This is what UCF watched in 2017 as fuel for their "championship run"
Or highlights from 2015 when they went 0-12😂
@@pschighlights that could also work
I guess... that was literally the worst team for Alabama since 1957. That team was a complete crap show after the coach tried to quit after the 3rd game.
They didn't win a championship though lol, unless you count the AAC title.
I remember this because I was attending UCF at the time. It was only their fourth year as a division 1 football program. This was the biggest win for the program in it's history.
This was in 2000, so why does it look like it's from 1988?
And yes, I am perfectly aware of what TV looked like in 2000.
1988 camera angles were too low to the field
This looks like the 90s
People still recorded with VCRs back then
@@blkwrld5600We got a bingo.
Dabo Swinney was the WR coach for this team
Alabama would have won if they had started Forrest Gump as RB.
Yes
I'm old enough to remember a time when Alabama wasn't good.
Me too. Some people make a big deal of smaller programs occasionally beating Alabama in the distant past but they don’t seem to remember that we had some atrociously bad seasons. The 80’s were pretty bad in Tuscaloosa and 2000-2007 was just pathetic.
So you realize UA was on probation during this time frame? Amazing a couple of UA coaches sued the NCAA and FAT Phil. The NCAA tried to destroy the program with sanctions and put the program in a bad place for a while.
What’s Tennessee’s excuse for being piss poor for 15 years now?
@@trainmaster0816 Yeah, I definitely remember some years on probation. Some years it made a difference and others not so much (like the early 90’s). I remember that we made a lot of poor coaching choices after Bear Bryant retired, with the exceptions of Stallings and Saban. As for Tennessee, I don’t know what their excuse is. I think their athletics program is completely toxic and they have Fat Phil to thank for that. The man had no ethical standards in football but loved to call others out. Their culture is just plain broken and now they’re the new Kentucky of SEC football.
Tennessee's problem is they don't have Nick Saban as their head coach lol
Nice profile pic, Beach Fossils are amazing.
Ah, the era of the Mikes (Dubose, Price, and Shula, plus Dennis Franchione somewhere in there). The years when Alabama fans were thinking, "You know, Ray Perkins wasn't really so bad after all..."
As a UCF fan I'm proud of this game

Well at least one thing was going right for Bama back then.
On another note, GKCO
Now I wondered why UCF chanted "WE WANT BAMA"

A 3-8 Bama team. Easily the worst Bama team in 50 years. And still it took 5 turnovers for them to lose!
Whatever it takes to save face. 5 turnovers @ home. Embarrassing.
Look bama fans said the same thing when lsu beat them and make excuses everytime they loose
Why are they turning it over 5 times....? That's bad.
What a talented defense to cause 5 turnovers! Way to go, Knights!
It was also a 7-4 UCF not anywhere near their top 10 best teams....

When TAM and Misery moved to the SEC in 2012, a TAM team FULL of B12 players that was 7th in the B12 a year earlier went to Tuscaloosa and beat the defending MNC Champs Alabama and ended the season 5th in the Nation.

In the B12 Championship Colorado destroyed Nebraska 62-36.
Oregon also got left out somehow despite having the lowest margin of loss, same amount of ranked wins.
Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl also destroyed Colorado 38-12.

If The Citadel can hold Bama to 10 points in one half, I have a hard time believing this. Alabama is gonna have to play some top G5 teams once the playoff expands. We'll see what happens.
@@nathan.d.c Yea I can see that
PSC Highlights, what do you think will be the best playoff format (like how many teams should get in). I think that it should be 8 teams. The winner of each Power 5 Conference gets an automatic bid. The highest ranked Non-Power 5 teams gets an auto bid as well (so the teams like UCF and Cincinnati have a shot in the Playoffs). Then the #7 and #8 seeds are wild cards (they can be Power 5 or Non Power 5 teams). The reason why there should be 2 wild cards is because if a situation happened where a team like Clemson (this is completely hypothetical) wins their conference and makes the Playoffs but they have 3 losses, and a team like Georgia doesn’t get in with only 1 loss because Alabama went undeafeated and won their conference, doesn’t happen. In this case, Georgia would get the #7th or #8th seed and have a shot in the Playoffs event though they didn’t win their conference title.
Good thinking. Keeps the percentage of playoff teams good. Like in college hoops
Sucks that theres no upset vid for Oregon state beating usc at #1 twice or when they were 3rd and that time they beat cal at 2nd. Though that first usc game was back when oj played so who knows how hard it is to find that

No Bama was garbage then. What’s more surprising is 1997 UCF in their second FBS season traveling to Lincoln and beating the 1997 National Champions at halftime.....
True but just looking at the teams name you would think Alabama would win
In the second quarter, after the fumble, Alabama number 21 didn't brake the plane. It was not a touchdown.
He got lucky this was the era before replay was in college football
I feel like ucf is Alabama’s Appalachian state. Play em once, lesson learned, don’t touch with a crimson wisp again…
Alabama hasn’t played a ranked G5 team in over 12 years. I’d say unless Bama has a sure fire chance of winning they refuse to schedule any good G5 program.
And that was when Alabama had Saban and was good. #3 in the country playing in their neck of the woods getting dropped by 17
@@brian2440 yea, I am from iowa and I hear all the time about the Hawkeyes ease of non conference… name another power 5 team to schedule a big 12 opponent. Like it took covid not to, yet Bama gets the sec pass? Wisconsin, Michigan and state, penn state, Nebraska, Iowa, all have had great seasons sence 2000, yet the probem is the big 10 is top heavy. But the sec is too. Vandy, South Carolina, Texas tech needs to go back home.
My point is at what point is a non conference loss to a power five team a good thing because it shows the lessons learned. Cuz if that happens, a good team will rally.
UCF really like that lol
The commentators were bias af…clearly they wanted Alabama to win…soo much excitement for them when they scored a TD…but so little enthusiasm when UCF won…
They are Alabama broadcasters.
Beating a large University like Alabama Crimson Tide was ok 1-0 all time, but from 2005 to today UCF is 3-9 all time vs a smallest University like Tulsa Golden Hurricane that's not good for the Golden Knights!
Cool
@SAMUEL PATE Hi Samuel Pate
UCF was the better team in 2017 too.
The Alabama was terrible years. Alabama became well known for seeing double digit leads disappear in this time period.
Rewatching this season and it still mystifies me. This team had a lot of talent on it, but turnovers ruined games. Also Zow and Watts both looked atrocious at times. Zow would overthrow receivers by 20 yds and into triple, quadruple coverage. You could make a cup of coffee during Watts’s windup. Drive after drive boneheaded plays would yield nothing. Once something actually happened all momentum would evaporate with an interception or fumble.
That was a depressing season.
