Honestly a better idea would have been to have the volume pot be a toggle for the bridge or the neck pickup. I know that people often don't use the middle pickup on its own, but it's lame to not have the option at all.
Just a few days before christmas, I got myself a 2016 PRS S2, in a vintage cherry finish. Instantly blew me away, became my #1 guitar, and has inspired me to play every day, to learn and practice. Never felt so attached to a guitar before, thanks PRS.
I own an s2 vela but not the studio. That’s really the only sound it can’t do that the studio can do. It doesn’t really justify me buying a studio but lord if I had one you know I’d be on that 4th all day. 😂
PRS you did it again!! Another awesome addition to the wonderful S2 range. Love the tones available on this new Studio and I can already see it joining my PRS collection very soon...bring it on!!! Thanks for the inspiration :)
Those thanks are richly deserved guys! I bought my first PRS when you first released the original MIRA back in 2008..and fell in love! I'm a full time working guitarist so I need reliable, versatile guitars full of tone and passion and PRS gives me all that and so much more. In addition to the MIRA, my collection now also includes a couple of S2 VELA's, an S2 STANDARD 22 and an SE 245. These guitars are gigged every week and feel like part of me on stage, but hey...there's always room for one more PRS ;) Thanks again you guys!
I think the S2 range is such a genius idea by PRS. Definitely what I gravitate toward to get a more vintage looking less fancy appointed guitar. Would love to see these make a comeback with some satin options. Those satin S2 guitars are incredible
Sounds awesome. It's like a fusion of Gretsch and Superstrat. Love the retro / pawnshop vibe, too. I do miss the pre-S2 Starlas and Miras, though. It'd be nice to have something like this with a full carve.
Love that the middle position is neck and bridge. I think every 5 way switch should do this. I have a 93 strat ultra that comes factory with this style 5 way and I use that configuration quite often. I dig the S2 Studio gonna have to get me one.
I just pre-ordered my S2 (mccarty tobacco burst) from Sweetwater yesterday! This will be my first PRS guitar, which I've wanted one for quite some time. I just love the scale... it feels just right. I've handled a lot of PRS' in my time and I've never picked a single one up and said "well, QC missed something on this one". Anyway, haven't ever been this excited about NGD, even though I don't quite have it in my hands yet. But soon enough!
I traded my S2 Standard for a 2016 American Standard Telecaster (which is my favourite guitar right now out of my 3 Fenders). But I've come to realize now just how great PRS guitars are and especially the S2's at that price point. It's like they say, you never know what you had until it's gone. Going to pick up a new one this year and this model looks promising. Especially love the fact you can split the humbucker too!
Some Phaggot from my perspective, if you want a more elegant looking HSS strat, and have p90s (they sound like it) taking the place of the single coils and coil split in the humbucker, this is the perfect candidate
After playing an s2 vela playing a strat always felt oddly unplayable. This guitar just fits my hands like a glove. Felt amazing instantly. Performing live with it was a joy. Felt like an old friend. Highly recommend the s2 line to anyone who values playability.
I've been a strat guy for 18 years but after having a friend loan me a 2014 Paul's I've been looking around at the models... this just might have to be my first PRS.
Just bought a used antique white. Paid $900. My dealer had 2. Wanted $1100 for the immaculate black one. This one had a small chip on the upper horn. 15 minutes with ivory colored Model paint, and you can't see it. I have done the preliminary set up, about to calibrate it and finish. Nice guitar, but relatively expensive with a bag. You can get a great Strat or LP Studio (deluxe), used, for that price. WITH a hard shell case. Keep you posted.
BRING THIS MODEL BACK. I don't regret my purchase of the Vela. But, I really want one of these. I love the trem option and middle pickup. It's like the PRS that's perfect for me.
You know what I like about this review/preview vs Arnold plays guitars reviews? I can hear what this guitar sounds like, and I still know what you made.

Thank you for replying to my post. I have purchased the black S2 Studio and I have to say that I am so in love with this guitar. All pickup combinations sound fantastic. This was my first pattern neck profile and I absolutely love it. Fits my hands so comfortably. The guitar has now served as a gateway drug to additional PRS guitars as I have now just received my order from Sweetwater for the Satin Cherry Burst CE 24. Another fantastic guitar. I'm so proud to be born and raised in Maryland, playing a guitar from a company born and grown in my Maryland.
Love it. My only gripe is all the s2 guitars I've tried...the "pattern regular" neck feels chunkier than the pattern regular neck I had on my core NF3 which was absolutely perfect in every way. The s2 pattern regular necks are uncomfortably chunky for me. Others may love them. I just can't bond with them. I far prefer the wide thin SE necks and like I said, the pattern regular neck on the NF3 is the most comfortable neck I've ever played.
@@romeou4965 I like The saddle bridge on the s2 vela. I think that makes it unique. I actually prefer it to the studio. I would love to have the studio in my Arsenal for studio sessions however.
Maybe add a push/pull pot to make the middle pickup play in the conventional manner when the pot is pulled, or make it a push/push pot. I like the idea of just the neck and bridge engaged though. Crap! I just bought a Squier deluxe strat in pearl white. It looks like I'm going to have to sell it now.
Sounds great. Personally though, would it be possible to have a version which was HSH instead? With splittable humbuckers in both the neck and bridge positions? And definitely appreciate the bridge+neck tones, looking to do a similar mode on my own strat copy
This S2 Studio looks and sounds amazing! Would be a shame to keep it as a limited edition. Any chance of this becoming a permanent part of the PRS line?
For now, it'll only be a limited run. But, as with all of our limited runs, if the public demand is there we could turn it into a full production model in the future. For example, look at the initial run of the February 2016 "Private Stock Guitar of the Month" McCarty 594? Those guitars sold like wildfire! Anyway, thanks for checking out this guitar, Stephen. Have you had the chance to play one yet?
PRS Guitars..not sure any stores here in Dublin have them. I’d love to try it. I picked up my first PRS, the CE24 Reclaimed Wood edition last year. Beautiful instrument. Wouldn’t mind adding this S2 Studio to the collection. Position 3 (Bridge Hum & Neck) very tasty! A bit soon to pull the trigger on another guitar. If it was around longer than March I’d be looking to pick one up for sure!
@@prsguitars Any chance these are getting a re-release? I love the look of the s2 vela semi but would prefer to have the trem and 3rd pickup that this has. Thanks!
doubt it since silver sky is a core model (a $grand more), not an S2. plus the sky doesn't have bridge humbucker but does have alder body like Strats. Perhaps it didn't have much traction?
I missed the boat on this model since they're no longer available. I also refuse to pay what the gougers are trying to get for them. plenty of other fish in the guitar sea, but if they ever decide to reissue them, I'm in.

Have one. Well made guitar, of course, it is a PRS. Dissapointed with the bridge pickup, though. The high end on it is way too piercing to my ears. I’m often rolling the tone knob to around 2 or so or over compensating my eq setting elsewhere in my rig. That doesn’t work well for me when switch guitars.
Love the body shape and pickup switching. Would have preferred less "country" licks,. Some more variety with possibly some more gain to show it's proposed versatility.
Shame they don’t make these anymore. These are amazing
I’ve played many PRS guitars and none of them are at all the same. Innovation is what makes PRS amazing, they’re instruments can fit any genre
That third position is a great idea. Love the layout. Thank you for making an S2 studio!
You bet!
Honestly a better idea would have been to have the volume pot be a toggle for the bridge or the neck pickup. I know that people often don't use the middle pickup on its own, but it's lame to not have the option at all.
It's rad. It turns it into a middle position on a Vela which is a pretty musical middle position when usually they're lacking on non-tele guitars.
This might be the coolest PRS model I have ever seen. Never ever EVER wanted to buy a PRS until now... great work!
Just a few days before christmas, I got myself a 2016 PRS S2, in a vintage cherry finish.
Instantly blew me away, became my #1 guitar, and has inspired me to play every day, to learn and practice. Never felt so attached to a guitar before, thanks PRS.

This S2 model is a winner!
would love to see this come back with the new S2 line with USA electronics
I believe I will be preordering one. Almost everything I've wanted in a guitar. Beautiful sounding and hss with trem and coil split. Irresistible!

I’m too poor to afford it, though lol.

That’s a stratkiller right there. It’ll go nice with my S2 singlecut. Will they be out in the UK soon.
This PRS has the best of the 2 most popular worlds - fender and gibson.
Gorgeous...who needs a Silver Sky ?
Thanks, Mark!
I’ve never clicked so fast in my life
Trystan Blaine isn’t PRS bad ass?!
Austin Belore agreed, can’t wait to hopefully own one soon
Should positions 2 and 4 be noiseless like on a Strat? Just bought one used and the only noiseless position is the bridge HB by itself.
I’m ready to buy when the retailers have them in stock.
