As a songwriter, Graham is up there with the Paul McCartneys and Barry Gibbs of this world. What it must be like to have such a gift, and to wake each morning knowing how much pleasure he has given, most of us can only wish and dream that we knew.
It's AWESOME to hear the songwriter explain how he came up with the story and the lyrics to a classic song. His interpretation of the song with JUST an acoustic guitar demonstrates how beautiful it really is.
Graham Goldman has written what in my mind are quintessentially love songs in history. Bus Stop written in 19665 and "I'm not in love" some 10 years later. To make this rendition of the song even more special he is sharing the stage with the best Songwriter to come out of Aust/New Zealand, Neil Finn. What would I have given to be at that performance. The concert of a lifetime!
Amazing prolific writer I've just discovered today. Songs I've listened to for 40-50 years and never knew the creative genius behind them. Old Dogs can learn new tricks.
It's funny - but some of my fav songs from the sixties were written by this guy and I didn't know until yesterday it was his songs. My new fav artist is Graham Gouldman.
Great song Graham! Didn't know you wrote it. It was nice to hear the background behind this classic & romantic song. Even my mother thought this was a great song back in the 60's.
This is one those masterpieces that totally transcends the pop-pish moon, june, spoon rhyming thing! Perfectly constructed, and he was so young! I believe that Graham Nash said he was only 14 years old when he brought it to the Hollies!
I had no idea Graham Gouldman wrote "Bus Stop"-- I had always thought it was Graham Nash who wrote it. I haven't heard of Gouldman till recently; I'd only learned that he wrote such classics like "For Your Love" by the Yardbirds, among others! Hey I learned something new!
I think a lot of people were confused because of them both having the same first name. Interesting story in Nash's book "Wild Tales" where he describes him and Allan Clarke meeting Gouldman and hearing him play all these great songs that were about to become big hits for not only the Hollies, but Hermans Hermits too. For people that were not big Hermit fans including myself, the songs he wrote for the Hermits are among the best songs they ever recorded.
Although Gouldman wrote it, I've heard that he claims that The Hollies totally nailed it (to set the atmosphere of the song) with their version, and that's awesome.
@ShockDoc I remember this on TV it was Graham Gouldman, Roddy Frame from Aztec Camera and Neil Finn from Crowded House each taking turn to play their tracks on the acoustic guitar. It was excellent.
wow fucking hell! i knew graham gouldman was with 10cc and a songwrighter in his own right and i knew he wrote this song.but to hear him doing that..fucking quality!! nice one!
I was ten when “Bus Stop” became a hit, and the phrase “by August she was mine” confused me, because I grew up in Southern California, where it doesn’t rain in the summers. I wondered why he carried the umbrella they shared...
I was baffled as a girl by sharing the umbrella and by the line, "by August she was mine," since I grew up in Southern California, where it didn't rain in summer... Silly girl!
I'm gonna kind of gate crash here...seeing everyone on here seems to be Gouldman fans.....but I actually remember this on telly many years ago and I actually tuned in to watch Neil Finn, not really being a Roddy Frame and Graham Gouldman fan but I was blown away by Frame/Gouldman and they earned sum serious respect from me coz of that show.......BUT I think that Roddy Frame stole the show.......so that is my unbiased honest view, being a fan of Finn...!
does anyone else hear a slight resemblance to "Things We Said Today "? not to say that there's anything wrong with that. and by the way that was a perfect performance. a treasure.
Rhianna should be forced to listen to this in order to learn how to pronounce "umbrella" properly! Awesome tune, sadly they don't write them like they used to and those that do don't get the recognition they deserve these days.
One of the greatest songwriters of the 20th Century.
and one of the most underrated. He's incredible.
As a songwriter, Graham is up there with the Paul McCartneys and Barry Gibbs of this world. What it must be like to have such a gift, and to wake each morning knowing how much pleasure he has given, most of us can only wish and dream that we knew.
Concur... but I absolutely hate 'plurals'....!
He is wonderful
Music can't get much better than this.
When you see Neil Finn pay attention you know there's a legend in action
You hit it out of the park with this one, Graham! What a masterpiece!
'Great song, good job writing and singing that hit'
It's AWESOME to hear the songwriter explain how he came up with the story and the lyrics to a classic song. His interpretation of the song with JUST an acoustic guitar demonstrates how beautiful it really is.
Now you can see how The Hollies, Hotlegs and 10cc sounded so good and got so successful. Brilliant
I rimember Hollie's version.
His guitar playing alone was fucking flawless.... Oh Graham- YOU TALENTED GIT!!!!
Neil Finn and Roddy Frame. The look on their faces.
One of the most talented musicians in pop... His 10cc work is somewhat overshadowed by Eric Stewart's but his material is outstanding
Graham Gouldman is truly one of my favourites, prior to 10cc and beyond. Thanks for the music Graham. All my best to you.

Michael N. Green I was there - it was an amazing evening!

A great song that has withstood the test of time. Thank you so much for this gift.
Amazing prolific writer I've just discovered today. Songs I've listened to for 40-50 years and never knew the creative genius behind them. Old Dogs can learn new tricks.

Today -- me too! Songs I loved so dearly over the years now have the real face and creator.
Genius - overused word but totally appropriate in the case of Graham Gouldman.
What a great song. A pop gem
A song and performance could hardly be better than this.
What can I say, Graham, you have written so many really really excellent songs. This is yet another one. Legend!
One of many great songs written by Graham Gouldman
Fantastic! Oh but if only I could write a song like that.
A perfect pop song, love you Graham.
It's funny - but some of my fav songs from the sixties were written by this guy and I didn't know until yesterday it was his songs. My new fav artist is Graham Gouldman.

Awesome song. Thanks for sharing.
His songs and 10cc were a virtual hook machine - thanks for sharing
Makes me remember my teenagers what a Great song
Beautiful chords,always loved this song!
Great song Graham! Didn't know you wrote it. It was nice to hear the background behind this classic & romantic song. Even my mother thought this was a great song back in the 60's.
Holy Crap! I had NO IDEA! Fantastic!
This is one those masterpieces that totally transcends the pop-pish moon, june, spoon rhyming thing! Perfectly constructed, and he was so young! I believe that Graham Nash said he was only 14 years old when he brought it to the Hollies!
Graham GOULDMAN*
Graham Nash gets Graham Gouldman's age wrong when he tells the story. Gouldman was 18 or 19 at the time (born in 1946).
Multi multi talented!!!
Merece todos os aplausos!!!
ohh one of may all time favourite songs wonderful..

I thought Graham Flour wrote it.
Don't forget that he co-formed 10cc and co-wrote "I'm Not In Love" and "The Things We do for Love."
Although Gouldman wrote it, I've heard that he claims that The Hollies totally nailed it (to set the atmosphere of the song) with their version, and that's awesome.
Saw his two years ago with Ringo's All Starr Band in Pittsburgh Pa. What a great musician and writer.
Excellent !! From Houston TX. US
@ShockDoc I remember this on TV it was Graham Gouldman, Roddy Frame from Aztec Camera and Neil Finn from Crowded House each taking turn to play their tracks on the acoustic guitar. It was excellent.
Perfectly crafted song!
I ALWAYS LOOVED THIS SONG !
outstanding rendition
Absolute genius..!!
beautiful...great to hear
You couldn't teach this. It is just God given talent.
pure genius!!
wow fucking hell! i knew graham gouldman was with 10cc and a songwrighter in his own right and i knew he wrote this song.but to hear him doing that..fucking quality!! nice one!
Great song!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this!
very nice song!
He is a faboulas song writer ,I love him
That's definitely one of Neil Finn's heroes and formative influences singing right there!
+Peter Mateer Good call Peter! You can here it!
Love it since i was a kid
this is music xxx
I know this song. Never thought Gouldman is the singer. Awesome.
The Hollies sang it - Gouldman wrote it.
The Hollies were offered 'No Milk Today'...I would have loved to have heard that!
Wow. Just wow !
I was ten when “Bus Stop” became a hit, and the phrase “by August she was mine” confused me, because I grew up in Southern California, where it doesn’t rain in the summers. I wondered why he carried the umbrella they shared...
You Graham are a legend
That was brilliant
I really like this song.
Try to get a look of this song also covered by The MonaLisa-Twins from Liverpool, they're giving a very good rendition.
A funny and inventive rendition. I love that duo!
utterly brilliant (especially for a 19yr old !)
I had a similar experience waiting for a school bus every morning when I was just 15. Dark haired girl with a basket. Liscard village 71
That's what its all about. Utter class.
love it
I was baffled as a girl by sharing the umbrella and by the line, "by August she was mine," since I grew up in Southern California, where it didn't rain in summer... Silly girl!
He grew up in England whee it rains most of the time.
Well..... WOW!!!!
Inspiring!
He also wrote No milk today.
Gouldman's best. Lot's of nice minor key stuff in a pop vernacular.
Wow! Now your turn lads!
Always wondered who wrote this for the holleys.😊
he gave them 2 hits, "Bus Stop" and "Look Through Any Window", would have been a 3rd but Hermans Hermits had already grabbed "No Milk Today"!
love Neil and Roddy but this blew them out the park
Class Act
A classic
His backup musicians kicked ass on that one.
I like "The Impossible Years" from the LP The Graham Gouldman Thing.
Awesome
what a talanted guy.I had no idea he wrote this.
There ain't half been some clever bastards! Excellent.
@dermotoblong He did a similar performance recently on a programme called Songwriters Circle on BBC4! Still very good, though now greyer!
@manygate10 haha! yeah, what a channel bbc4 is eh? seen some great things on there.
Genius
I'm gonna kind of gate crash here...seeing everyone on here seems to be Gouldman fans.....but I actually remember this on telly many years ago and I actually tuned in to watch Neil Finn, not really being a Roddy Frame and Graham Gouldman fan but I was blown away by Frame/Gouldman and they earned sum serious respect from me coz of that show.......BUT I think that Roddy Frame stole the show.......so that is my unbiased honest view, being a fan of Finn...!
has that moody blues sound to it
グレアム。最高😃⤴️⤴️
yes
Makes me wonder why the heck Graham so rarely got lead vocals with 10cc. He sings at least as well as Eric, Lol, and Kevin.
does anyone else hear a slight resemblance to "Things We Said Today "? not to say that there's anything wrong with that. and by the way that was a perfect performance. a treasure.
unknown genius
Wish a bit of harmony would have been contributed.
They probably felt too humbled to interfere with the genius.
You can see Neil Finn's definitely mesmerized!
Rhianna should be forced to listen to this in order to learn how to pronounce "umbrella" properly! Awesome tune, sadly they don't write them like they used to and those that do don't get the recognition they deserve these days.
its as if the lyrics are a story spoken naturally
ffs did he wright that---- 3 great musicians
Fucking a-m-a-z-i-n-g !!!
Er lebt seine Songs !
Anyone have the chords for this version? Awesome.
i figured them out from this video
if gouldman could have mstuck with godley n creme i feel the sky was the limit songs so fkn diverse- anyway listen, to his music
Classic song.. I wonder who the girl was? And whether she heard the song and thought ' hey, that was written about me' ...?
