it's pretty obvious, since blood mage, is tuned around the player having poe 1 recovery, and they completly fortog that poe2 only has 0.1% of the recovery that you can have in poe 1
@@gampie13 That wasn't the only thing they forgot. Even something as basic as Evasion feels a bit borked, because Evasion builds always relied on big Life, to tank incoming damage unmitigated (cause no armour), when it got through your Evasion. You also played Spell Suppression, because it was conveniently close on the tree, to at least improve spell damage mitigation. Now we have the exact same Evasion, but no SS and virtually no Life. That makes pure Evasion feel like extreme glass.
Came looking for blood mage gameplay expecting to see a bunch of blood flying everywhere...instead I saw a bunch of elemental spells being thrown around. Why does it seem every game dev seem to think *use health to cast spells = blood mage* I want to be draining blood, I want to be using blood as a weapon and as my primary tool to kill people not just recoloring my blue mana bar red.
if theyre going to make a class named this they need to give it its own skill set. kinda like how witch and sorc have different bases and name the ascendency something completely different.
Also Bloodmage here just entering Maps. Sanguimancy absolutely needs a fix. Some suggestions : a) at least make it an optional toggle like all passive buffs so people can turn it off. b) make the cost the fifty-fity it should have been from the start instead of double-up. c) it could use a fun QoL change that blood orbs are slowly drawn to you, so you don't have to go fetch them under the bosses' belly.
Should just remove mana cost entirely and stay 100% blood cost. That would at least make mind over mana valuable for some tank. It's called BLOOD mage, not Blood and Mana Mage. The way it is now, Infernal with Blood Magic passive is better, and thats sad cause it's not even that good on Infernal.
Lol i ascended into bloodmage yesterday and went lightning too because of your videos even though i saw how other people thought the class was trash.. Bad timing
Made the mistake of going Blood Mage as my first character. Don’t have too much game time per day, but finally finished Act 6 yesterday. After seeing so many content creators share the same experience I had, but still in late game, I rerolled Deadeye this morning. You truly begin to understand how gimped Blood Mage is when running through the campaign with a character that actually gains benefits from ascending.
Tbh the more I play Bloodmage the more I think he is really alright. Just not as the typical caster. I am currently steamrolling through t5 no problem, dying waaay less often than my archmage and deadeye friends. I do enjoy the Bloodmage hate tho, I might just get a buff on top my already working build.
@@Oathiel That is fair, the reason I rerolled is because once you reach higher tier maps, well it really doesn’t become fun anymore. The clear is atrocious, you literally have to take on packs one by one. It feels like you’re trying not to die to the monsters, and Sanguimancy.
You're doing the tough job that nobody else wanted to do, including myself.... I applaud your effort. And I thank you, for saving me many many hours. Seriously.
Easiest way for GGG to fix this imo is to scale the blood remnants healing with your gem strength, like they scale the stormweaver's elemental storm. Fixed amount of HP heal just means ur build will be worse the higher your gem level.
Bloodmage needs more viable options. Guides out now focus on ice casting, and then you ask what's the point? To go elemental caster might as well go sorceress.
@@SLS-4Kubica Supposedly Vitality Siphon doesn't work, or if it is working, it's going through many levels of mob "leech resistance". When I could first access that node, I took Sanguimancy and Vitality Siphon, having calculated 10% (+an extra 12% hp leech from the node before VS) thinking this would sustain my hp enough, but I lose hp on casting. When the spell hits for 250-320, for example, and the spell costs 25 mana/life, then the average spell hit is 285, I should be gaining 28.5*1.12 hp per spell hit, but I lose hp. I spent 20k gold removing Sanguimancy. I then saw the patchnote "Life leech has been buffed", excitedly added Sanguimancy and VS back again, same problem... this time it cost me 22k gold to remove. Bloodmage is a single small passive of +3% max life. Anything more than that and you're just a worse Witch.
Just respec to only have the first node (3% more life) until you get 4 or more ascendancy points. I struggled a bit but once I got gore spike I was able to hit hard enough and spawn enough life remnants to enjoy it.
FYI, there is a a very faint purple circle under you that warns you that you are about be 1-shot by a chaos burst, a fraction of a second before it occurss at 19:44 (the visual clarity is not great, especially when the effects from your own skills overlap). (But I feel your frustration with the overall state of Blood Mage.)
I'm not good enough to play ARPGs without recording my gameplay & clipping all deaths & challenging encounters, then reviewing them frame by frame. Honestly, my replays often show I've dodged things without fully realising, so I learn as much about game mechanics from 'wins' as from deaths.
And hot tip: some MTX (especially cloaks), obscure the ground, making it harder to see ground degens/targets directly beneath your character. 'Floating' MTX (which remove your boots) can help improve visual clarity.
I always enjoy the concept of hemomancy in games since Dragon Age: Origins. This news is kind of disappointing because this isn't the first time I've heard that blood mage is bad. But I think I'm more bothered about the idea of a blood mage not having blood spells and instead it's just a resource and you're left using lightning or fire or something.
I just got my Blood Mage ascendancy an hour ago and now I see this. Dammit I had a gut feeling this was going to be a thing and you just affirmed it. Plus, I screwed myself by trying to do a full Chaos build but Chaos is not viable to main at all. Time to reroll until this is fixed
It feels like reap and exsanguiate are pivotal to bloodmages identity and for some reason they are stuck in database hell and not put in game yet for some reason. Combined with the ridiculous ascendancy tree choices, its literally an incomplete class. I kept trying to make it work but im officially rolling a sorcress now in the meantime
Yep. I also have decided to reroll until adjustments are made. In blood witch current form, you need all your ascendency points just to break even. Feels bad.
Would using power siphon on his wand help in any way? He would give up the power sigil thing, but the cull of power siphon restores hp. If you're constantly popping mobs, would that hp influx help balance out the needed survivability?
The first things that come to mind is taking the blood magic(on the passive tree) passive to remove mana cost and then Mind over matter. So effectively with these two nodes your mana pool is an extension of your health pool. Even if blood magic doubles the health cost you will have all of your energy shield and mana as defence before you get to health. I hope this idea helps.
unfortunately blood magic sets your mana to 0 i believe, also mind over matter only applies with attacks against you so the health cost of spells wont be taken from that
I did mind over matter and eldritch battery and this nearly doubled my mana pool making it equal to my 2k health bar. Plus one of the passives in his arc build adds bonus damage based on the max mana so it’s actually really good. Just get mana regeneration to counter the negatives and you’ll be hard to kill. Might have to play slower a bit when they hit you. can’t cast but it saves you from dying so you can reset.
might have just bricked my build because i spent all my money grabbing blood magic. now it cost 800 health to cast comet, if i don't have a shield up (only 1k shield) enemies just look at me and i die.
I've got the infernalist, my friend got the menstrualist. Guess who has created a new character at level 25. The more we talked , the more it felt like suicide. He didn't even do lab 2 to try throwing his own blood at monsters in bags of 1 liter a time.
honestly, the whole endgame idea of mana/hp costs going up with skill leveling is overtuned. It gets exponentially more costly, without exponential gain or exponential ways to recoup hp/mana. You kind of have to keep your skills as low as you possibly can so you can sustain but still kill feasibly. It's a little too min-maxy in ways that I also find unenjoyable. I just want to do more damage and beef up my character to live long enough to deal that damage.
started blood mage as well, stopped after reached 100 deaths around tier 3 maps, just finished acts with infernalist now and im around 5 deaths, its just ridiculous how bloodmage feels either unfinished or not thought out at all. good luck on your reroll
To anyone reading, yes this ascendancy is super bad and needs changes. This is a guide on how to stop dying and actually play the game with this. If you are playing this fiesta and don’t want to start over I will explain my solution, you probably have 3 major problems that are killing you in map. 1. You need to regen back what you are using in form of life. 2. Physical damage because you probably got no armour, the int bases don’t give armour. 3. Low chaos resistance. You need to be 30-40%+ at least to even feel okey. 10% will make mobs one shot you no matter how much hp you have. You are one shot in this video because of this. There is a unique chest piece that converts phys damage taken into fire damage. Get it with the unique shield that regenerates 3% life every second and +5 max fire resistance. These pieces have a lot of fire resistance, will make you regenerate a ton and greatly reduces your physical damage taken. If you find a corrupted chest that makes more of the phys damage taken as fire it’s even better. With a good chest this removes 40% of all phys damage flat off. Which is crazy good for physical, especially big hitting abilities like boss. Because armour stops working on big physical damage then flat phys migation was only the way to go. These pieces makes it possible for you to use your abilities without draining yourself. The rest of the armour pieces and rings/amulets you want life on everything possible, elemental res make sure it’s capped and some chaos res because in this game chaos resistance is a must and not an option. Dying in Poe 2 is 5 times as brutal as in poe1. But the catch is you want strength mods here as well. 25 strength= 50 HP. And then you can start picking up strength bases with armour. To hell with ES. Armour on your boots, armour on your helmet and armour on your gloves. But this is a tricky balance. You need to top the Int high enough so you can use skills on highest level but you also want high enough strength so you can also use pure armour bases. In the ascendancy passives I have one strong recommendation and that’s 25% over 4 seconds one. After that just go for what ever you think gives most damage. On the atlas take all the recoup nodes, every single one. And buy jewels with 4% life recoup and 15% elemental damage. This will give you 75% recoup from phys and elemental hits. There are great crit and lightning nodes close to all these nodes. Take those as well after. The rest on the tree you are free to spec into damage. You won’t get crazy damage but you will not have problems with death anymore. The game will feel comfortable and enjoyable. For clearing I will give a tip. Detonate dead with increase area effect and echo spell. Kill one mob with any other spell and then just hold in detonate dead and nuke the whole map. With all the regen and recoup these it is a beeeze to get off.
@@aminhalilovic3499 As someone with limited time I've decided to start as a blood mage and I followed Mtashed up until this point. I just cleared the campaign with over 200 deaths (Yes I know, it's bad) and this is one of the most miserable experiences I've had in any game. I have over 3k hours on PoE 1 and I'm not a new player by any means. To top things off there were some party play bugs in the first few days that made it even harder to progress through the campaign as a duo with my GF. I have a Titan that's halfway through the campaign and I would rather continue playing the blood mage in a more defensive manner. I think that me and a lot of other people would greatly appreciate your take on this class. A video would be nice for newer players but a maxroll planner link would be cool as well. Thanks for the tips so far.
@@umcaraai1991 The comment I'm replying to is using that video in an attempt to invalidate the viewpoint of this video. But that video actually acknowledges that you're going to struggle when you're at the point that this dude is. TLDR is that an experienced player can make things work, but it is probably going to be a bad experience for someone new. That same statement is definitely not true for builds like minions or the pre-nerf cast on cold.
@@Zemlja_je_ravna My dude, it has nothing to do with not wanting to spend gold. It's that he feels it'd be a waste of time respeccing a class that he feels is fundamentally broken when he could roll up a new class instead.
@@toxicjester9705yep same here though blood mage does feel bad I have it off till I get more points and health stacks but minion curse plus containgon/ freeze burn support gem with hexblast and cursed despair 58% percent I’m blowing shit up and freezing bosses with my dripped out Ice mage minions lmao
I also picked blood mage at EA start and suffered so much (partly because of skill ish, but also because I had sanguimancy allocated). What a waste of time. The only good thing about the ascendency is the character art. The forced node invents a health cost for nothing. The orbs are nice when you can pick them up, but you pick them up when you don't need them so what's the point. You literally pay for a cast twice, and that cost makes you die faster. It scales terribly endgame. The other nodes also s*ck a**, and feel like just nodes you would find on a normal tree, not an ascendency tree. I just started a deadeye and it feels so much better.... Idk how GGG thought this made any sense, have they even played blood mage before releasing it? I feel like the blood mage should be a strength stacking spell crit caster, but as you said in the video, the skills are too few. I also think the support gems are boring as f***. I don't think people can come up with original builds in this state, all the support gems work or don't, there's no in between...
When I saw Bloodmage at the show, i was considering him as the first character because i like tanky builds so i decided that I would start with Warrior then Sorceress and wait for people to play him and see if he is as cool as i imagined and it turned out that he requires changes, so I'll play it someday
I run Blood mage and use a minion build, I'm at cruel act 1 so far. I've been enjoying it and the minions are helping me run through and while i've died a few times due to casting spells but im still able to walk through bosses and mobs most of the time. Hope you have luck finding a build that works. One of the ascendancy nodes allows you to take delayed damage this helps quite a bit
your missing the main point, the reason the class is bricked is because the higher your level and the more your spells level up, the more dmg to self your doing, a lvl 19 comet hits your character for 1k dmg.
@@GhostIy_zzz while i get that, i feel blood mage can do well without those big spells with using minions. Infernalist can do better in this regard as well, not saying Blood Mage is the best here just saying it can still do things (unfortunately one of the things it cant do is cast big spells over and over), I agree that Blood Mage 100% needs to be changed in some way.
@@GhostIy_zzzbut if you play bloodmage and want to use those hard hitting skills you should have just played sorc instead of witch no? Before i picked my witch i looked into tons of reviews on each class to make sure which suited me most and like most people pointed out that this ascencion seems to be a minion necromancer kinda build where you rely on debuffs and minions
@toxicjester9705 that's what figured when I picked blood mage thinking it was for the minions.. which is what I was reading. But everyone says infernalist is the way for it. Who knows I'm just gonna keep going till it doesn't work anymore lol
Great video!! I honestly feel the same about fire sorc. Currently trying different builds and from what I see, fire needs to have a stun and electricity needs to build up electrocute much faster. Currently I feel like ice sorc is just a necessity because u actually have usable stuns or just ways to stop mobs form completely mobbing you
You should get the "all damage taken from mana before life" Node, That + Energy shield should make you a lot tankier. Still the blood mage its kinda ass
@@JT-yl9yt did you test it or do you assume it does? Same kind of thing exist on poe and it wont double it So i assume it work same way so it wont double cost
@@EnderElohim People have already said that it does and said it does double it in global when they picked it...either way the expensive skills are still too costly even IF you could remove the mana cost without suffering the double.
I was able to get immediate value out of sangrimancy by building around boneblast spam. Choosing boneblast (or going chaos instead of physical) allows me to take "Direct Approach" passive, which I think is pretty powerful. Building into the druid's hybrid section of the passive web I think has been good too for dealing with the crowds of small stuff.
Hey man, as a fellow bloodmage, I've noticed that the frost wall actually drops life and mana (if you also run mana remnant). Taking mind over matter and frost wall + echo and then combo with the mana leech skill (I forgor the name) and I feel like you can be what you imagine. Hope this helps
ok it isnt just me. my first death as a new POE player as a regular witch was the act 1 boss. after I went blood mage, Ive genuinely hated the gameplay and have respeced 3 times. I was about to respec for a 4th time thinking I fucked up or something. I think im just going to drop the game at this point, I refuse to go through act 2 again on cruel on any other class, none of this feels worth it
@@Derzull2468 There's a super easy fix. Sanguinomancy doubles your costs because you pay the same mana cost PLUS an equivalent life cost. Why double it? Just make the mana cost 50% with it active since you're paying life for the other half. Such effort, such reflection.
Anyone wanting to go blood mage go check out goratha doube COF build its really good, again this is for people who really wanted to go BM. If not choose another class. I also dont understand why content creators are acting like its not in EA
What are you mad about? If bloodmage has some fundamental issues and does not align with the powerfantasy of beeing a ''bloodmage'' poeple are upset for investing time and want to express themself. If you dont like what the creator has to say about his experience then choose another video.
@@Knufffii Im running BM and it works fine, unfortunately theres only a few BM builds that work and there all related to frost. Im not mad but atleast preface your complaints with the fact its in EA. How can you get upset when the devs said there will be nerfs and buffs all throughout EA.
Last weekend, going into Act 2, I was certain I was going to pick Blood Mage. My friend and I just barely failed the Ascendancy boss fight twice in a row, and we stopped for the day. The next morning, I saw multiple discussions about how bad Blood Mage is. Now, I'm glad we failed.
Sounds like a fix for Bloodmage would be *half* the cost of the spell is now from life, rather than mana (so 50% from life, 50% from mana), rather than 100% of the cost from each?
As another struggling Blood Mage, I feel your pain. It seems very clear though that most classes have a 'first' Ascendancy that is in better shape, and a 'second' that is an early work-in-progress proof of concept. I'll come back in a few months when the game is in better shape - it is likely to be a masterpiece eventually and I don't want to spoil the later parts of the game beta-testing it in this early state.
So one thing about POE2 is that fully specin’ into something could have major downfalls, I’ve been running blood mage w/the curse specs & I run a primary melee/curse build. Having the ability to rock double curses & blasphemy buff applying a curse as an Aura w/ Specing into INT/STR use time of need for the other buff. And I’ve had very good results
Just got to level 70 on my bloodmage. Maps were taking 30+ minutes just crawling through then to avoid dying while still clearing. I get on my 72 stormweaver and clear maps in 5-7 minutes. My bloodmage actually ran into a rare mob with hp regen every 10 seconds, and my bloodmage was incapable of killing it. I couldn't even dps through the tank before eating all flasks. I'm retiring the bloodmage until they do a complete overhaul.
I found the spell leech ascendancy node helped smooth things out for me. Also some recoup to slow down incoming damage. I was also planning on using MoM/Eldritch Battery, and do some int/mana stacking
I've just rerolled a new character because of Sanguimancy, struggled through act 3 normal and act 1 brutal, unlevelled it and breezed the rest of brutal. Got to maps and spent all my currency to get 2.5k life, 1.5k ES and maxed resistances... Now I only cast Hexblast and use Blasphemy to put my curses on close targets. I can clear the first few tiers of maps fine, but I cannot touch bosses. Without extra debuffs like Wither, I do no damage at all.
My biggest complaint about bloodmage is that we dont actually get an blood spells. When I saw this was announced I was realllllllly hoping for vampire style gameplay with blood abilities but it fell completely flat for me. Rerolled into infernalist.
I've had a lot of the same issues mentioned in the video. My solution was to run inspiration support on my main ability (40% less cost). I haven't invested a ton into mana regen so I still go oom quite often but in my experience spamming mana pot solves that problem. As for life cost, I have the spell leech node, mixed with some of the life regen nodes, vitality, cannibalism and grim feast and in my experience I can keep my ES up for the most part and not take any dmg on my HP and my life cost is now low enough to maintain like 50% overhealth. Also I took zealots oath for all my stacking life regen to apply to ES because I really never want to take damage on my HP. I'm still only in pretty low tier maps so I'm not sure how viable this setup is late game but for now its working decently for me.
Blood mage alone makes my build immediately suck against bosses. I play chaos dot blood mage. My dots fall off every 4-6 seconds. I also needed to take speghettification which makes all choas spells take an additional 3% hp and shield. All for dots that don't do much damage.... definitely expecting a nice buff soon.
I should also state, that I use cursed aura and hexblast to take care of close threats. That gives me a lot of orbs, but can't do that still in boss fights.
the whole dot damage seems a un finished system, the mob will jump at you faster than the dots kill them(at least need some minons to distract them or cc)
I'm maining blood mage, level 78 atm, and your first mistake is to use energy shield. Go full armour, energy shield completely negates your sanguimancy advantage, and armor actually mitigates damage, so HP is more valuable. I'm sitting at 2.2k HP, 4.4 when overflowed, and 67% armour (without shield). Also my build is full "glass cannon", only armour I got is from jewels (Ruby jewel with armour, stun build up and global physical damage). Your second mistake was lightning, blood mage is made to CRIT, and the best base crit spells are bone ones. If you go lightning, it only gets good after your third ascension, and that is if you skip the leech.
Here's a kicker, as warrior I chose an ability there's on that side of the tree called "Blood Magic" which removes mana completely and takes the cost from your health instead. The difference is, it works because warrior has a lot of life regeneration on his side, strength gives life increases and because you remove mana completely and don't have to deal with double costs. Why didn't they make it the same for Bloodmage baffles me.
3 things. Use support gems that help crit because you're not generating anywhere near enough orbs. You can get 24% of damage recouped as life in your passive tree. Also, if you took Vitality Siphon in ascendancy nodes to get 10% of leech from your spells your overall health uptime would be insanely higher. Hope this helps!
Once I took the Eternal Youth Node which allows all the energy shield recovery you tack to apply to your health it was game on with blood mage for me my health barely notices my casts. But using this should not be a hard requirement and I hope we see changes.
thank you for using your platform to shed a light on this! i will say learning how to stay alive on this class has made the whole game cake on Ranger so i guess theres that 🤣😂 if they fix it though ill be right be right back on Blood Mage but right now like you said no matter what you do its pointless you can literally play any other class and feel 100% better!
I haven't played the ascendancy (chose infernalist for demon form) but I feel like a lot of the problem surrounds that first node. I feel like a blood mage should use only health and no mana. What I would do is take all mana and add it to life instead. That lets you double up life lines on gear by having max life and max mana. That alone doesn't solve the issue though, the life globes would need to heal more or automatically go into a overhealth pool rather than healing your normal life. That way regen on gear and the passive tree don't become almost redundant on a class that uses it's life as a resource. This leaves the class open to still needing to manage health if you take too many hits but makes it tankier because adding the mana to health means the blood globes overheal can go even higher. Just some ideas, granted the simplest thing is to just make life leech WAY better but that leaves you open to the one shots we saw in this video versus my idea of a tankier mage that also gets more benefit from that "more hp = more crit damage" node. I'm sure their are flaws in my idea too though that I don't see.
Iam lv87 BM atm and a run in any T14+ maps is a nightmare. After the nerf on CoC Comet iam using CoC Frost Wall + CoF Cold Snap, i dont recomend but cant put another spells, the cost of life on tankier bosses is insane (Tried Ball lightning but i almost killed myself in 5 sec). Using Call of Brotherhood + Spark for clear. Its way better than any ice skill. Spark dont do a lot of damage but its enough for T15 and the freeze make it more safe.
I went Eldritch/MoM on my cold sorc after the nerfs and stacked mana regen. I regen like 450 per second. And my survivability went way up, but my kill times are slower.
This class is about big nukes lightning is more about spamming spells. That 10% life steal is crazy with nuke abilities. Then switch to phys, fire, or frost. Detonate dead scales with physical damage in this game. And their is a wand that helps conserve corpses. You can get up to a 75% chance not to consume a corpse. Then, with sacrifice and a few tanky minions, you can just spam, detonate them, and clear the map.
I think it would help if the blood globs would slowing gravitate towards you until you pick it up maybe like a lil slower than the volatiles or something so you wouldn't have to actively be looking for them ??
Chaos blood mage here and yeah I started exploring other classes once I got to act 3, was my first char. Idk if I should invest or just find something else. Curses take a lot of mana/health
the easiest way for GGG to fix this is giving us a node on blood mage ascendency that allow us to stack str while satisfying other attribute requirement... bcoz the thing is we can;t really take str nodes due to how much int requirement we need for a spell.
I thought I was bad with my blood mage ascendency. Now I know I’m not the problem. Thanks for the video. I am gonna take a break until they fix, hope they make it fun.
ok, a couple of questions ... 1. Did you slot Inspiration in Mana Tempest to cut the mana drain by 40%? 2. Did you use Blasphemy to make Conduction a mana cost free aura?
Some additional thoughts: 1. I am seriously considering the passive skills Eternal Youth and Mind of Matter to transform my blood mage. The PoE2 version of Eternal Youth is your life gets your Energy Shield regeneration and your Life Flasks give you Energy Shield. Meaning your life can regenerate VERY quickly with the proper items and skill selections. Mind of Matter makes it so all damage goes to Mana before touching life, which will help you from getting 1 shot when low on life from casting before you could regenerate it all from Eternal Youth. 2. Crimson Power is the health boost you are looking for. 3. Going staff isn't the best play. Doing scepter + wand will give you the spirit to run mana remnants and grim feast. Use Unearth to summon minions that can be consumed by Arc for a 30% damage boost via support gem. Maim is so very good on those Unearth minions as well. I basically only need to use Mana Tempest of bosses that have no spawns.
I hope they add the ability to change or re-test your ascendency. The infernalist is super popular and you'd probably find more success with it. I am playing a sorceress and when I ascend it will be to the stormweaver class because the chronomage seems to be in a similar situation as the blood mage although not as severe.
2nd chara have been doing bone crit witch. Went up middle over to monk passive tree for physical damage + crit. Havnt grabbed ascendancy at end of act 3 only 7 deaths entire run. This sounded the more promising of the 2 due to open sores, blood barbs and sunder the flesh. Seems like I too would have to invest majorly if I decided to choose this ascendancy. But tbh prolly going to ignore it and try to fly through chaos so I can start a totem mercenary.
It's insulting to me how much better that much life on hit is vs the ascendency node that just happens to double your casting costs. That one node is practically bricking the entire ascendency.
You should roll a warrior. I'm playing armour break + armour explosion on autoattack for clear and then hammer of the gods + infernal cry for boss boops. It boops really hard. Attack times (sunder is 2.4s, hammer of the gods is 2.05s) take some getting used to. Just got to maps and it can be brutal if you don't have enough stun threshold, which I currently don't, but its playable. I just need to go slower till I get that solved.
Damage part need some love for sure, leech too, tanking wise it's pretty fine, being one of the better class in game actually (the only tank one even ?), but you still need to invest in tanking like any other class, it's not a "free tank" class
Its kinda rough, I've managed to make it to t15 maps on bloodmage, but I still can't do any hard mods. I'm getting some upgrades tomorrow for a couple hundred ex, hopefully that'll solve it. Even still i feel like my setup is already pushing beyond the limits of this class. Farming juiced t15s should be fine with sufficient gear and optimal setup, but doing the couple of end game bosses and stuff like simulacrum and breach is questionable. Where as random decent player on a minion or bow build just breezes through it. Blood mage would actually be balanced pre cast on freeze nerf and completely fine for all content. But GGG decided to kill it. Pray that my upgrade tomorrow will allow me to handle the true end game content, I've already invested so much into this character making it to t15 maps on such a weak class. Edit: gorothas fire ball convert to cold with frost wall build is probably the ONLY bloodmage build that can still do end game content after cast on freeze nerf, and I'm following it Edit 2: One critical thing Mtash did wrong here is spell leech is the thing that still kept my build alive. you absolutely need it before the dmg nodes or else you are fucked. You should do enough that the spell cost of casting spells should be actually ok. I actually mainly die in t14-15maps if mobs were be able to stun be, or bs rares with mana drain aura+blink+evasive( can't spell leech) that kind of thing
Its rough, I agree. The blood mage, and witch in general, are clearly designed to be tankier slower killing casters. While blood mage is weak right now, I think going blood mage and then going for much less mana efficient elemetal spells, lightning especially seems mana hungry, is just not a great combo. Occult spells seem MUCH more mana efficient to me. I rarely need mana pot on witch, I chug it constantly on sorc.
I have played fire-ignite flameblast blood mage for around 80 hours, entering "red" maps, doing tier 12 right now. This ascendancy felt TERRIBLE for majority of time. My friends playing melee, sorc or merc were either faster, tankier or dealt more single target damage than me. I wanted to reroll. Everything changed after I got to the third ascendancy, swapped from life leech node to flat 15% crit for flameblast. Each normal to magic monster pack dies with 1 cast, rares take 2-3, bosses die in at most 7 casts. Damage feels really good. The best thing I have done for myself was to invest into 2 things. First one, wand and shield for block. This was a complete game changer entering maps for the first time. With nodes leading to "Offensive Stance" shield gives you around 60% block and equal increase in damage. Wands also ain't bad. You can stille get 80% increased damage with +4 to skills and 70 crit on top of 60% increase from block node. And second, equaly as important if not even more, recoup is TRASH, invest HEAVILY into health regen and pick Zealoth's Oath. With shield as another source of health and resists you can get regen on almost all pieces of your gear and even some cast speed or increased damage on rings. Armour/Es bases are great for mitigation and increased Es pool. I sit right now on 2300 base health, 1300 Es with 200 regen. Gameplay is silky smooth. The only way I die is if I get one shotted by boss or crazy rare or before first or second pack when my life isn't overflown. Constant es regen from Zealoth's Oath protects your life pool so during mapping I rarely drop below 3.7-4k overflow life pool. Free 100% crit multi from gorespike by the way. With this crazy regen and block I can face tank all packs and one shot them with flameblast like I don't even care. Crits are CRUCIAL for bossing and "comfy" playstyle. I have 60% crit aiming for at least 75-ish so my life globules drops are more constant. I'm not sure if you are playing archmage or not, I see you are investing heavily in mana regen, but I feel like this type of build is only possible for really end game items. Fitting life, res, life regen, mana, mana regen and offensive stats on items is CRAZY espensive right now. I can't recommend playing blood mage before 3rd ascendancy but after that, oh boy, what a difference. And remember the holy trinity: shield---life regen---zealoth's oath.
Yep you didn’t at 9:08 there’s a main node you didn’t take that helps out, people have been making crit builds and gone down the right hand side of the ascendancy tree, still needs improvements though
Do you think the devs would take into account that there needs to be a little more health nodes on the skill tree, and change some of the nodes around, for better efficiency for this class?
Level 74 BM, rerolling to play something else until BM gets some love. Boss fights are fine with my build but I can end up being bullied by swarms, since I commit suicide if I spam anything that isn't my Staff. BM would be so much better if health orbs slowly tracked to your character. The fact that some of my spells require more life than mana just puts me at my actual max life, since all the over heal just gets burned when doing damage. I have a weapon swap with the unique lightning staff, for my lightning warp with Grim Fest + Caniblism and the Culling ability heal/mana regen. I dive in with lighting warp and shoot up to full hp and 150 shield or so. I feel comfortable mapping except for the rares with "Prevents Recovery of 50%" I enjoy my BM a lot but it relys solely on the unique gloves that add electrocution to lightning... GGG needs to changes the ascendancy to make the mana cost split between mana and hp instead of just paying full with hp and mana, or add some blood magic.
I have nearly same build. Yes, BM isn't perfect, but you are wrong. Just take Vitality Siphon, it's best node, when you use Arc on pack of mobs, crazy chaining gives you much more HP back than the cost and it scales with your DPS.
Arc Blood Mage here, Use Ball Lightning to apply multi hits (crits easy for health orb gen + Shock), also slap on the arc teleport skill for CULL but also TELEPORT for safety/execute. Doesn't fix health issue, but helps a lot. At this point, it is a glass cannon angle, they aren't doing shit for this ascendency.
So glad I rerolled after act 1 as a witch, I didn't like the look of infernalist and i thought bloodmage was super cool but witch was underwhelming so i rerolled into a stun/freeze mercenary and ive been having so much more fun. I hope they fix it.
74 lvl Blood Mage here, Right now after trying cold, hexblast, minions i can confidently say that spells that BM should use are not in the game. Cast on X nerfs proved this to me. And before commenting about some endgame build that works with perfect rolls. Any character will work with perfect rolls what I am speaking while Mercs, rangers running around feeling like archer. Blood Mage feels like immunodeficient person inside sewer trying to live.
all i could think while watching this was, is your trying to do a sorceress lightning build on a witch. i have a build focused on chaos damage and curses, ive felt the damage has been super good after specing into alot of the curse effectiveness perks. just now starting act2 in cruel and realizing my gear has been a major issue too my damage
This perfectly explain it. The health costs should not be this ridiculous and the leech should be on that node, not the health blobs. Also Blood Mage CAN work, if you play it as a ranger with a bow or crossbow... It absolutely does not work with spells due to the insane spell costs.
Also started as a bloodmage, felt terrible after first ascendancy, stopped at lv44 3 days ago, rerolled and started playing deadeye, im already level 57 absolutely destroying and melting everything in my path and the difference is abysmal...
In my opinion, Sanguinmancy and vitality siphon should be combined in one node. The life and mana consumption should be split something like the skill costs 300 mana becomes 150 life and 150 mana. And the way it is now, the Bloodmage is so inflexible because you are forced to skill into Sanguinmancy and vitality siphon.
i feel like she doesnt have the spells yet. something like reap and exsanguinate. seems like shes a physical spell caster and only physical spells are detonate dead and bone storm. high damage large aoe and single target set up or channel spells. lose small amount of hp and works with all her nodes. bleed and leech works with crit and with elemental attacks making bleed better u can go "% damage as" mods. really feels like her kit isnt done. same with warrior he has only 1/3 of his spells and he feels just as bad
When the game first came out I was planning on blood mage chaos damage build (hex blast) but as I looked at the tree and the blood mage I just didn't see it poeible without INSANE investment.. Ended up going with infernal demon form hexblast and boy do I have the time of my life. Damge scaling with as much health regen, longer demon form = more spell damage.
i took bloodmage expecting to be a cool vampire but i'm just anemic

I got a unique wand for Blood Mage. He needs to tank with mana. 👀
This made me laugh, thanks buddy😂😂😂
This was a comment on a different video: other classes ascend to get more power, blood mage ascends to get more problems.
it's pretty obvious, since blood mage, is tuned around the player having poe 1 recovery, and they completly fortog that poe2 only has 0.1% of the recovery that you can have in poe 1
I’m blood ice mage witch and even if it’s tough I’m still having a blast because I’m a souls fan so I’m down for struggle
There is big NODE that says, block damage with mana, you max mana reg, easy... lol
Except you spend both mana and life as blood mage@@Zemlja_je_ravna
Came looking for blood mage gameplay expecting to see a bunch of blood flying everywhere...instead I saw a bunch of elemental spells being thrown around.
Why does it seem every game dev seem to think *use health to cast spells = blood mage*
I want to be draining blood, I want to be using blood as a weapon and as my primary tool to kill people not just recoloring my blue mana bar red.
This dude gets it
if theyre going to make a class named this they need to give it its own skill set. kinda like how witch and sorc have different bases and name the ascendency something completely different.
Bad timing
@@ThunderJunkOCeither 50%mana/50%hp or go all in into hp yes. It has to be a mistake it is 100/100, its so fucking dumb

@timt6663 don't worry, blood mage still good. People just need to stop trying to make a sorc out of them. I took a whole different route
@@Oathiel Can you share your build, I have no idea what to do right now
@@Oathiel That is fair, the reason I rerolled is because once you reach higher tier maps, well it really doesn’t become fun anymore. The clear is atrocious, you literally have to take on packs one by one. It feels like you’re trying not to die to the monsters, and Sanguimancy.
@@Oathiel what u plaing? i switched from minions/dod to Hexblast.

Please post your feedback in the forums. It's EA, they will probably rebalance some classes. But for this they need to be aware of the problems

@@GPS08 I don't see anybody using the life leech on the blood mage do you know if them nodes are good/strong ?
@@SLS-4Kubica Not strong
I picked this class because it sounded so cool but it sucks so bad. Now I view the bloodmage ability as a debuff
Hoping you found your game and community, Mtashed
Meanwhile, the Blood Magic node still exists and is basically the better Bloodmage in every way.
Chaos is not bad, but not good at start
what's wrong with chaos BM? I am almost level 92 and I've leveled as chaos
I wasn’t able to get it to work on a minion-less build. Works fine on mobs but bosses were always a major problem. Maybe I missed something.
Nah Archmage works great.
I hope this idea helps.
unfortunately blood magic sets your mana to 0 i believe, also mind over matter only applies with attacks against you so the health cost of spells wont be taken from that
You get touched once in maps, you'll die. I've tried it.
@@markgattyyou should be able to refund it
I've got the infernalist, my friend got the menstrualist. Guess who has created a new character at level 25. The more we talked , the more it felt like suicide. He didn't even do lab 2 to try throwing his own blood at monsters in bags of 1 liter a time.
I also saw that Grimro was playing with only the first small node allocated, because this ascendancy was just that bad LMAO
honestly, the whole endgame idea of mana/hp costs going up with skill leveling is overtuned.
I got this class to work, any way I can show it to you? Or send a video of gameplay? It actually feels really good as well
Post it
To anyone reading, yes this ascendancy is super bad and needs changes.
@@WintercideI tried my best explaining, I might try to post something. Never made a video before tho

Hope you have luck finding a build that works. One of the ascendancy nodes allows you to take delayed damage this helps quite a bit

Sounds like a fix for Bloodmage would be *half* the cost of the spell is now from life, rather than mana (so 50% from life, 50% from mana), rather than 100% of the cost from each?
As another struggling Blood Mage, I feel your pain.
Ty for taking one for the team. Your actions are welcomed and noted.
@Hans8341 totems, my dude. Aggro harder than persistent minions.
@@Bisquanyep totems with hexblast blows everything up
I'm maining blood mage, level 78 atm, and your first mistake is to use energy shield.
Bonestorm and bone cage can generate blood orb quite easily
Here's a kicker, as warrior I chose an ability there's on that side of the tree called "Blood Magic" which removes mana completely and takes the cost from your health instead.
The difference is, it works because warrior has a lot of life regeneration on his side, strength gives life increases and because you remove mana completely and don't have to deal with double costs.
Why didn't they make it the same for Bloodmage baffles me.
Yeah they need to rework it I’m killing myself here, literally!
Do you think it would help if they updated it to SPLIT mana cost between health and mana rather than costs equal to mana?
Once I took the Eternal Youth Node which allows all the energy shield recovery you tack to apply to your health it was game on with blood mage for me my health barely notices my casts. But using this should not be a hard requirement and I hope we see changes.
thank you for using your platform to shed a light on this! i will say learning how to stay alive on this class has made the whole game cake on Ranger so i guess theres that 🤣😂 if they fix it though ill be right be right back on Blood Mage but right now like you said no matter what you do its pointless you can literally play any other class and feel 100% better!
have you tried sanguimancy + grasping wounds + gore spike in ascendancy? that should give you a good hp boost while remaining able to recover it
I haven't played the ascendancy (chose infernalist for demon form) but I feel like a lot of the problem surrounds that first node.
Would ci work with it? And stack mana and es and node that applys life regen or life steal to es?
Chaos blood mage here and yeah I started exploring other classes once I got to act 3, was my first char. Idk if I should invest or just find something else. Curses take a lot of mana/health
the easiest way for GGG to fix this is giving us a node on blood mage ascendency that allow us to stack str while satisfying other attribute requirement... bcoz the thing is we can;t really take str nodes due to how much int requirement we need for a spell.
I thought I was bad with my blood mage ascendency. Now I know I’m not the problem. Thanks for the video. I am gonna take a break until they fix, hope they make it fun.
isn't there a skill node that causes the damage to be taken from manna before your life pool?
Pssst he is not aware of it.
ok, a couple of questions ...
1. Did you slot Inspiration in Mana Tempest to cut the mana drain by 40%?
2. Did you use Blasphemy to make Conduction a mana cost free aura?
Some additional thoughts:
But tbh prolly going to ignore it and try to fly through chaos so I can start a totem mercenary.
you can get 500+ life on hit .... 80 life on hit gloves roll ...... would fix it
It's insulting to me how much better that much life on hit is vs the ascendency node that just happens to double your casting costs. That one node is practically bricking the entire ascendency.
Don’t think that works well with a chaos dot build
Have you tried picking up some of the nodes that reduce the cost of spells?
You should roll a warrior. I'm playing armour break + armour explosion on autoattack for clear and then hammer of the gods + infernal cry for boss boops. It boops really hard. Attack times (sunder is 2.4s, hammer of the gods is 2.05s) take some getting used to.
Just got to maps and it can be brutal if you don't have enough stun threshold, which I currently don't, but its playable. I just need to go slower till I get that solved.
Yeah this class need rework
He has made a "glass cannon", seen many with working ones even broken ones. Like most have removed the need of mana....
It doesn't he just built dogshit.
Damage part need some love for sure, leech too, tanking wise it's pretty fine, being one of the better class in game actually (the only tank one even ?), but you still need to invest in tanking like any other class, it's not a "free tank" class
@@xilaxlebarbare ?? who said about free tank? u drunk or something? u need more drugs before typing on yt comment
Edit: gorothas fire ball convert to cold with frost wall build is probably the ONLY bloodmage build that can still do end game content after cast on freeze nerf, and I'm following it
Edit 2: One critical thing Mtash did wrong here is spell leech is the thing that still kept my build alive. you absolutely need it before the dmg nodes or else you are fucked. You should do enough that the spell cost of casting spells should be actually ok. I actually mainly die in t14-15maps if mobs were be able to stun be, or bs rares with mana drain aura+blink+evasive( can't spell leech) that kind of thing
I don't know how well ir will work, but there are node that reduce the life cost of skills. It could be worth the try
As someone who picked a chronomancer, I feel your pain. Im lost on where to take my build
Post your build mate!
We need an ability that can grab blood orbs for us from range when killing mobs so it’s not run in to grab them
Did you take the node that takes mana instead of hp first ?
Yep you didn’t at 9:08 there’s a main node you didn’t take that helps out, people have been making crit builds and gone down the right hand side of the ascendancy tree, still needs improvements though
Mind Over Matter Node is called, All Damage Taken from Mana before HP
Do you think the devs would take into account that there needs to be a little more health nodes on the skill tree, and change some of the nodes around, for better efficiency for this class?
and if we take open sores and play mainly with curses?
Have you tried the gem support that makes skills cost 40% less Mana? I feel like the that might help ur problem
I'm not 100% sure with how it works but the +6 to lightning skills is probly bricking you. The cost of the abilities are probly too high.
That definitely might be it lol
I feel comfortable mapping except for the rares with "Prevents Recovery of 50%"
I enjoy my BM a lot but it relys solely on the unique gloves that add electrocution to lightning...
Hey thanks for the video 🤙 I'll definitely wait on doing a blood mage now 😅
Arc Blood Mage here, Use Ball Lightning to apply multi hits (crits easy for health orb gen + Shock), also slap on the arc teleport skill for CULL but also TELEPORT for safety/execute.
I was feeling the same pain on my hexblast BM in early maps, but I bought corpsewade boots this morning and ive been flying through maps since.
What are you re rolling to? I’m LOVING my monk now I’m about level 35 and crushing everything in my path
how would work replacing +levels with another damage affix? I imagine it would lowers cost of abilities a lot
