Agreed. I think you can love & respect Bray Wyatt and praise his creativity, but still think that 90% of the Wyatt Family stuff is the drizzling shits. Like when Ultimate Warrior died, we didn't suddenly pretend that he was this great worker with fantastic promos and matches.
But also, if the undertaker gimmick started now instead of 30 years ago, they’d hate it. Just say it’s not for you and move on instead of knocking it. He acts like it’s as bad as orange cassidy.
I believe he would appreciate the original incarnation of the Wyatts - the hillbilly cult. Bray Wyatt got completely ruined by that Firefly Funhouse nonsense.

I never expected Jim to like the Uncle Howdy stuff and I never needed him to. I agree with a lot of Jim's takes on wrestling, but not all of them. It's not literally a Cult of Cornette, folks. We don't all need to 100% agree with our great leader all the time.
I like that they're playing this seriously. They're not having blood shoot out of a pressure washer in the ceiling or teleporting, so far. So far, the faction are a bunch of crazy psychopaths who are going after Chad Gable. So far Bo is a nutjob who snapped when his brother died, cut a very good promo explaining why he went nuts and shot a video explaining why he became Uncle Howdy. I can buy that he's crazy enough to do that. If they break from that, start doing hokey magic stunts, or winking at the crowd, then I'm out. But so far, they've interested me.
Was too Staged, we are supposed to believe that this gang of weirdos randomly attacked the WWE locker room and production team, but the production team was obviously in on it.

After The Undertaker I'm not for a lot of the mystical spooky crap either. However, that being said I like it if it's used for scare tactics. I don't want to see spells and lightning. Only for intimidation and mind games.

That is what I love you see as well but I don't mind characters that have a sense of occult as long as it's done in a manner that can make sense otherwise we just get cartoonish stupidity. Like Bray and Seth's Hell in a Cell match which put me off the match type in the first place

It's probably because of the fact that even if it IS an L take, it's so easily the least interesting thing that either of them have mentioned about this specific topic because LITERALLY everything is else spot on 😂. If anything, I'd already forgotten about him saying that and now listening back to it , it comes off very tongue in cheek. I’d also argue there are very few individual wrestlers that would actually drive ticket sales. Most people arnt buying tickets to specific wrestlers outside of the biggest names like Roman, Cody, Punk Or Rhea. They’re buying tickets to see “Raw” or “Smackdown” or WWE.
Also WWE has been selling out like almost every show. Unless people start refunding tickets because of the Wyatt Sicks I think they’re gonna be fine.

Cornette's crowds were toothless backwater folk with IQs so low they'd stab wrestlers and vote for Trump
The only issue is that WWE has turned towards TKO being an actual company that owns UFC and exists firmly in the real world and the Smackdown brand is running with that. They have press conferences like major sports. They have the RUclips show that is exactly like a traditional sports show. That's the theme they have embraced and its working wonders.
On the other side of that coin, you have this. Who signed the Sicks? Did TKO ask for their social security numbers? How are they hacking into the feed? Why isn't security or the police stopping them? These are questions that should be halfway answered for the sake of the suspension of disbelief. They could have dialed this way, way, way back and still have it work great. The Bloodline is over the top but they stay rooted in reality.
It's not like Raw is bad or going to be bad. It's that they are now walking this tightrope creatively (for a gimmick that never really paid off, just generated some tremendous discrete moments) when they don't really need to be.

Exactly. That clever, creepy ambiguity was there with Bray, too. It was never specified whether Bray's character actually had demonic powers or was possessed (though he liked to imply it), or he just got in his opponents' and followers' heads so much that they believed he did and sort of 'manifested' the image of it.

Too right, they should strive for realism… even though MMA has existed for over 30 years and we all know what a real full-contact fight looks like and plenty of wrestling fans have zero interest in watching real fights. Case in point, the backlash against Ronda Rousey and everyone unanimously agreeing that Brock Lesnar was a better wrestler before he went to UFC.

The object of professional wrestling since the beginning has always been to make the product look as real as possible. But when you have this fake B-movie unrealistic horror movie BS, then it crosses the line.
@@jetleeroy33 pro wrestling crossed that line decades ago, well before shoot fights made realistic fake fighting redundant. When you can watch a real fight and see that real fights either end in a minute or involved lengthy periods hugging on the ground, it’s hard to buy into wrestling as a combat sport. It might not be your taste but pro wrestling is performance art. Most fans watch it as entertainment, not sport. The ones who do try and claim it as a sport often hate the storytelling aspects and just want to see flips, dives, guys letting themselves be chopped, no selling every match going 30 minutes or more in the name of ‘workrate’, things that Cornette claims to despise.
WWE fans hate when you criticize their product, but love it when you criticize AEW. Stick to that and the WWE babies will eat it up

The Wyatt stuff is my pee break. Always has been. It’ll be the same as the Bray stuff. All this spooky stuff, going on for weeks, but ultimately Bray always counted the lights on PPV, and you’d hardly say there were any classic matches. And not too many people who feuded with that character came out of it better off.
I think because Bray himself was such a good person, people look at it through rose coloured glasses. I’ve always looked at it and thought, shut up and wrestle man.
It's not about supernatural characters, it's about continuing on a story that IMO was very well told moat of the time. The Fiend was mishandled and the beat gimmick to come along in decades. Uncle Howdy is Taylor Rotunda's Fiend

As I mentioned in the previous video about their debut, I am with Jim. This BS simply doesn't work in 2024. We "pretended" it was good for Undertaker BECAUSE it was Undertaker, NOT because that crap was any good. No to mention Undertaker started as a dead man when it literally was "gimmicks period". He was just one of them and later on he changed and evolved his "gimmick" to some extent to make sure it didn't look complete and utter BS as times changed too.

Well he’s not a convicted felon and I don’t know anyone that actually likes Joe Biden more than they don’t like who Donald Trump is as a human being.
I respect not liking a certain creative direction wrestlers take, that’s fine. But to try and scrutinize the group for breaking kayfabe and comparing it to the Undertaker’s first 6 months of his career (Oh, you know when social media wasn’t a thing and people didn’t live, eat and breathe the internet) is just a childish excuse and looking for reasons to not like them.

I dont think that Arbys fan photo is a big deal because kayfabe is dead. WWE are literally putting out a small documentary in a couple of days about how they 'planned' WrestleMania. The trailer has shots of HHH, The Rock, Cody and Roman together smiling and shaking hands like they're best friends. I mean what else is left after that.
The older I get the less I enjoy these supernatural themes. It also gets old real quick .
I don't mind if it's weaved into wrestling. There doesn't seem to be a storyline that puts any of the sicks in the ring tho
I was never into horror movies because I just don't scare that easily. I get how they work and why some people like them, the scare give most people a big adrenaline/endorphins rush but that doesn't work on me. I just watch a horror flick and go "Sheesh these people are dumb and boring"
However I did like Bo's interviews with Uncle Howdy, they kind of reminded me of the "Three faces of Foley" interviews with Jim Ross. I liked the original Wyatt Family gimmick but thought the Firefly Funhouse stuff was just stupid and basically had no wrestling. At the end of the day the main reason I'm watching a wrestling show is to see some wrestling, not some avant-garde artsy fartsy nonsense

I will say, I like the fact that we aren’t getting overly supernatural shit. The raw interviews with Bo have been fantastic. I agree that I don’t want the supernatural bs. But so far, they’ve kept it to a minimum and have made it real with Bo. They’re addressing the fan criticisms each week. I hope we get similar interviews with the other characters and learn about their motivations. Rowan is actually an underrated talker. I don’t see anything wrong with what Jim said. He doesn’t want it to be phony and he wants it to make sense in the confines of wrestling. I think what we have so far has been great but to each their own. I’m just glad it’s not AEW booking
From last Raw, we saw a reason why he has the rest of his team, and why Bo's focusing on Gable (despite the earlier promo from Gable implying they might go for Jey Uso). There's nothing too crazy about it at this point.

I respect the hell out of what the Wyatt Sicks is. That promo from Bo a couple weeks ago was one of the rawest promos I've seen in a while. But this kind of stuff isn't for me.
The undertaker stuff was the final nail in the coffin for me as far as watching wwf back in the day. This is worse. It has nothing to do with wrestling .
