This review series has been fascinating and in some ways better than an average documentary. I finally have to take issue with one point. The credit for the resurrection of Women's Wrestling, in my opinion, largely belongs to "Dutch" Mantell and Gail Kim. While WWE was dialing back their Women's Division in the late 2000s, Mantel and Kim wanted to develop a relatively more serious Women's Division in TNA. They got the blessing of Dixie Carter and the rest is history, with the Knockouts Division putting on matches that sometimes equalled the men or stole a show! There's no way WWE, or Stephanie or whomever failed to notice that!
Two of the biggest things I loved about tna was the knockouts division and the x division. It was so great to watch women actually wrestling rather then bra and panty matches and all that others divas era garbage.

They acted like the women's revolution happened right after the product went PG, when the reality of the matter is that it took almost a decade and people being pissed off. The reason he showed up late to the interviews was because he wanted to show he was in control. He needs everyone to know he’s in control and has the power. He gets off on it.
I wanted to believe he was saying that CTE didn’t cause Benoit’s actions, but I think I was putting a spin on it simply because I like and admire him so much. It was disappointing

That is a GREAT comment! Man Stewart was maybe channeling Vince, if you look at the timeline that VInce was trying to push the incest angles at the time that Extras came out.
Vince was super rich and he paid for his best friend’s mom to have the best treatment for her cancer diagnosis. It’s noble. I feel anyone that had that money would offer to pay for their best friend’s mother to have the best care. I’m sure he loves his friend that kept all his darkest secrets . One good deed doesn’t erase all the disturbing behavior of Vince
It does explain Bruce’s devotion to Vince a lot though. Anyone who’s been through their spouse being given that diagnosis would know how bad it is, the fact Vince saved his wife’s life I can understand entirely why he’s so loyal now.
After all of this, I think it's safe to say vince is a weird, broken, and insecure person. He was able to use the Mr. McMahon persona as a shield but once he got old, it came down. Ruthless, brilliant businessman and the reason so many of us love wrestling. Yet it sounds like it came at the cost of being even a decent human being, husband, father, and grandfather. Really sad.
@@vdgadef not disputing what he did was awful and he was horrific and awful for doing so as well as his suspected domestic abuse history with Nancy. Just pointing out how CTE debilitating the decision making part of the brain would cause what Benoit ultimately did.
What annoys me about Vince and Trump apologists is that they excuse “I never lose attitude” as “that’s what competitors do”. No, a good competitor admits and learns from their losses to become a better player. Michael Jordan, Tom Brady and many others are great examples of true competitors.
@@david83ryanthat's a running theme that everything he's done outside of wrestling has been a failure. Hell, Shane tried to get him to buy ufc for pennies!
Trump has admitted his loses on many occasions. However, when it comes to the 2020 elections anyone with an unbiased view of things can see that the Democrats got away with cheating. You unhinged TDS victims need to calm down. Same thing with Vince, not wanting to lose isn't an inherently bad thing. It all depends on perspective.
I cannot recommend enough that people who watch the documentary, watch all these videos as well. It really helped put things in their proper context. Surprised no one is commenting on Brian (I assume from this podcast) making an appearance regarding the creation of TKO.)
33:20 This is something that really grates on me when people try to "both sides" it with Vince. Just being referred to as a "father figure" does not in and of itself make one a good person. In fact, it makes many people evil. Jim Jones was a father figure to many people. Josef Stalin was a father figure to many people. David Koresh was a father figure to many people. All of these wrestlers that think they're defending Vince by saying that...I only think worse of him for hearing that because of how he abused that worship.
To answer the question that was pondered around the 32:00 mark. There's a scene in "Wrestling with Shadows" doc where Bret and his small son Blade are interacting with Vince before a show backstage. For that brief moment, Vince was actually very nice to Blade and was showing some human side of himself. He was trying to make Blade laugh. Very rare to see this interaction. It was actually surprising to see a glimpse of that side of Vince
I can absolutely buy that Vince was a father figure to the talent, especially the top guys and gals. They were the kids he always wanted, and he showed them the love and appreciation that he never showed his own. Or, at least, never showed Shane.
And father figure to these guys might very well mean vince reminded them of their own asshole fathers. We hear that term and think of it as a positive, but think about how many have shitty parents?
I watched it and was disappointed they didn't have anything new. I learned more from the podcast about him, compared to the documentary. They could have been more hard-hitting questions, but it came across like they were sugar coating alot of the questions.
They are still promoting Donald and his family tree along with Linda because that's another ten years to a hundred years of content. One day they will have a season of pewdiepie, ninja, Logan Paul, Mr. beast, and Chris chan all trying to use biographies to be the next president of the US.
To answer Brian about wanting to see a “truer” documentary about Vince: again: Behind the Bastards did a seven-part documentary on him. Covering in detail ALL the gory details. Did it with Sean Baby as a co-host, so the hilarity is still there too.
When Shane and Vince are hugging in the gorilla position: you can see Vince lean in and whisper to Shane, and for one split second it looked like Vince was fighting tearing up/ getting emotional. I think that’s why Shane was so moved by his Dad’s praise in that particular match. You can see Vince notice the camera; and immediately go back to classic “No sell” Vince. I think that moment may be the closest thing to seeing Vince McMahon, instead of Mr. McMahon. Jim & Brian are right: it’s all about the Father/ Son dynamic with Vince.
It's good. If you haven't seen it - check out: Louis Theroux's Weird Weekend episode about Wrestling. It's from the same era as "beyond the mat". It's excellent and it's available somewhere online for free.
I think it was a disappointment if you know what's up. For anyone not interested in wrestling (shockingly the majority of the world), it will be surprising to them. Just like Tiger King. For those in the know it wasn't surprising, for the rest of us it was insane.
At least Vince made changes and stood by his decisions. The chair shots and the wellness program are there. He tried to keep Kurt Angle from killing himself with drugs and Angle then went on to spend the bulk of his career in TNA. Compared to any other promoter Vince sounds progressive. Yet we have Tony Khan promising health insurance while Miro and Punk handled their own medical.
There's the difference between Vince and Trump. Vince hates sitting down and talking about himself, whereas Trump won't shut the fuck up about himself!
I thought the show was going to bury him and then I remembered halfway through that Raw is moving to Netflix. I'm surprised they didn't sell him it back. Perhaps they thought it would cause them too much negative publicity if the story got out.

Terry Funk knew senior and junior. While Terry can't vouch for any of the abuse stories, he has said junior can and does show kindness and generosity.
“A good act does not wash out the bad. Nor a bad the good.”
Stannis Baratheon, Game Of Thrones
It does explain Bruce’s devotion to Vince a lot though. Anyone who’s been through their spouse being given that diagnosis would know how bad it is, the fact Vince saved his wife’s life I can understand entirely why he’s so loyal now.
I wish the Dark Side guys had a Netflix budget to make a series like this.
Please no

What's even funnier is the Mania where Ventura went into the HOF and went to speak to Trump in the front row and told him to run for president

Hell yeah. It's outstanding.
I think when Austin said “I’m not a CTE guy” he was saying “I don’t believe CTE played a part in Chris killing Nancy & David”
I took it as he didn't think it was a real issue. Clearly watching the matches dudes brain was jello
"I'm not a CTE guy... Just don't believe in it."
His exact comment lol pretty cut and dry.
If you look at the footage, Austin looks off camera to say that what he said came off wrong. Let me try it again.
and Jim and Brian still took it out of context 🦻🤨
I'd hope so, otherwise he'd be an ignorant idiot.
Brian: "Vince talks like a DC villain."
Jim: "Yeah, like Professor X!"
Jim isn't much of a thinker with that one.
Brian Last's cameo as "reporter" at 17:50 in this episode was the only surprising thing in all 6 episodes.
That isn't the right time code, that is how much time is left! But I noticed that just now and came to see if anyone else did.
Really sad.

This is single-handedly the BEST title image in all the years of Corny videos.
Brain damage absolutely was a major factor in what Benoit did, that’s absolutely glaring.
He was evil regardless of the status of his brain.

What annoys me about Vince and Trump apologists is that they excuse “I never lose attitude” as “that’s what competitors do”. No, a good competitor admits and learns from their losses to become a better player. Michael Jordan, Tom Brady and many others are great examples of true competitors.
Exactly...he lost more than he won (XFL, WWF New York, WBF, IcoPro, etc) it's just his one win has been a major win.
@@david83ryanthat's a running theme that everything he's done outside of wrestling has been a failure. Hell, Shane tried to get him to buy ufc for pennies!
You learn more from defeat than successes and you take successes with humble comfort within if you really wanna grow
That comparison Brian had to this being like the last season of GOT was spot on LOL 😆

I cannot recommend enough that people who watch the documentary, watch all these videos as well. It really helped put things in their proper context. Surprised no one is commenting on Brian (I assume from this podcast) making an appearance regarding the creation of TKO.)

OMG… VKM is Prof. X and Jim is the Sentinel?! 😂🤣😂
Vince McMahon: “There were no storylines involving rape” cut to Vince in ring “Come on out here, you RAPIST!”
Jim Cornette is so entertaining.
I love all these comic themed artwork. Combines 2 of my favorite things!
X-Men: Days of Local Medical Facility
They are still promoting Donald and his family tree along with Linda because that's another ten years to a hundred years of content. One day they will have a season of pewdiepie, ninja, Logan Paul, Mr. beast, and Chris chan all trying to use biographies to be the next president of the US.
Lmao now I need to see Corny reacting to Chris chan's history.

May have been Nick Khan
VKM was behaving like Dick Dastardly but sounded like Mutley 🤭
Prolly not gonna watch the doc, but I've devoured Jim and Brian talking about it the last few days.
Same
I watched it and those two did a great job at cutting through the fat and getting to the meat. They hit all the bizarre, main points
Ultimately, Netflix sunk time and money into a doc on a company they now have a major deal with.
So it was always going to end up watered down.
BrucePritchard Will *FOREVER BE* Vince's "GroverDill".
(Scott Farkus' "Toadie" in "A Christmas Story")😜
Who me? No your Aunt Tilly. Yeah you!!
Travis needs a raise
They missed a lot of people. To interview and ask questions. Like The King, Ric Flair, and Kane.
To answer Brian about wanting to see a “truer” documentary about Vince: again: Behind the Bastards did a seven-part documentary on him. Covering in detail ALL the gory details. Did it with Sean Baby as a co-host, so the hilarity is still there too.
I will check that out, thank you very much.

This might be Travis's magnum opus. 😂
to me beyond the mat is still by far the best wrestling doc.
It's good. If you haven't seen it - check out: Louis Theroux's Weird Weekend episode about Wrestling. It's from the same era as "beyond the mat". It's excellent and it's available somewhere online for free.
And for the time it came out. There wasn't alot of behind the scenes docs at that time . Except for Wrestling with Shadows

Vince describing how his brain works sounds like ADHD
This would be an insane American Crime Story
Netflix didn't bury Vince McMahan, Vince McMahan buried Vince McMahan.
Finished it this afternoon, it was basically just a documentary for non wrestling fans. Pretty big disappointment.
Yeah, milk toast to the max. To prime non-wrestling fans for the WWE Netflix era.
WWE is for casual fans. This series has done an awesome job to attract new audience who don't know anything about wrestling.
I think it was a disappointment if you know what's up. For anyone not interested in wrestling (shockingly the majority of the world), it will be surprising to them. Just like Tiger King. For those in the know it wasn't surprising, for the rest of us it was insane.
Not really tho I went in expecting a puff piece
yep,a commercial for Raw on Netflix
Brian Vince impersonation is hilarious sound just like his Moxley voice impersonating 😂
3:50 the Dalmatians part has me rolling 😂😂😂
I've listened to this 5 times for this that part lmao😂
Bret comes out of this looking the best, just like the WCW docuseries.
Just finished this episode today and was stoked when I heard Brian’s voice on it!
There's the difference between Vince and Trump. Vince hates sitting down and talking about himself, whereas Trump won't shut the fuck up about himself!
I thought it was funny that while Stone Cold was playing down CTE, they showed the clip of Owen Hart dropping on his head and breaking his neck.
I thought the show was going to bury him and then I remembered halfway through that Raw is moving to Netflix. I'm surprised they didn't sell him it back. Perhaps they thought it would cause them too much negative publicity if the story got out.
Vince’s entourage sounds like a game of Clue….the doctor/trainer/chef 😂
It was...the CEO...in the condo...with the turd truncheon.
