The "military" costume at the end was a cangaceiro outfit. They were nomadic bandits that roamed the Northeast arid interior (known as "sertão") in the late 19th and early 20th century. This region of Brazil is the most impoverished one, and in a form of "social banditry" against the government, many men and women decided to become cangaceiros, so outlaws. Today, they are most known in a good light, like Robin Hood kind of bandits, becoming part of the Northeast folklore and a symbol of cultural identity, despite the fact that they indeed pillaged cities back then and were feared among people. The most famous cangaceiro was Lampião, the mannequin was representing him, since you could see by the blind eye and glasses. The woman by his side represents Maria Bonita, his partner. They were a couple like Bonnie and Clyde.
once, some "cangaceiros" got paid by the gov to fight a rebel army know as the "coluna prestes". they took the money and, of course, they didn´t do the job. the gov wasn´t amused, but could do little, being the "sertão" a very harsh and big place.

the "sertão" is not easy to travel by car. it´s very nice, but also very big and not very touristic. chapada diamantina is great, but i think the person gotta like to hike and have a lot of time. it is, also, kind of a big detour. i hope one day, they do a "inside brazil". THEN they gonna see how vast brazil is.

O resto lá na "pratinha" onde tem aquelas fotos de mergulho achei muito cheio e muito caro e por isso fica ruim. Exemplos de praias tranquilas - PE: Calhetas e São José da Coroa Grande; RN: São Miguel do Gostoso, Ponta do Mel, Camurupim; CE: Flexeiras, Paracuru, Icaraí de Amontada, Barra Nova; AL: Carro Quebrado; Peroba. The beaches of Rio de Janeiro are very good and very famous, even interncionally, the coast of São Paulo also has wonderful beaches, many of them very little known, but nothing compares to the beaches of the northeast!!! The beaches in the Northeast are incomparably the best in Brazil.

Porto de Galinhas it's very famous place. Specially now, during high season it's fully packed. I also don't like busy beaches cause we can't not enjoy nature. But in BRazil there is beaches for everyone. You just have to look for it. I live in the cost and in my place i know some secret beaches that I love. Enjoy guys!

Also, the characters in "kinda pirate/military clothes" are Lampião and Maria Bonita, and long (real) story short, they fought against the oppression imposed by the landlords in kinda Robin Hood way. LOTS of history in those characters!
That's correct! LAMPIÃO (male) and MARIA BONITA (female) were part of a group of "cangaceiros" (bandits). He was the leader, compared sometimes to Pancho Villa. hmm I would say I like beaches more than before, but mostly I'm still a mountain-person. I've learned to really enjoy beaches for photography or sports... but in terms of just laying in the sun... my skin is not built for it lol, and I get bored easily. But I am warming up to beach life :)

Olinda and Recife have the biggest street carnaval in the world. In Recife the Carnaval start with the Galo da Madrugada in the saturday morning and goes all day with millions of people in the streets, after that in the sunday reccomend go to Olinda to see the Bonecos gigantes (giant dolls) and you are going to see many blocos de carnaval. In the night its good to go to Marco Zero, they also have some blocos de carnaval but they also have concerts.

That's correct! LAMPIÃO (male) and MARIA BONITA (female) were part of a group of "cangaceiros" (bandits). He was the leader, compared sometimes to Pancho Villa. They were a sort of Bonnie and Clyde of the Sertão (Brazilian "outback"). LOL en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lampião. Ivana has a good intuition and is totally right: that type of music (FREVO) performed by that street band is the one played during carnival in the state of Pernambuco and surroundings (much less in the other regions).

hmm I would say I like beaches more than before, but mostly I'm still a mountain-person. I've learned to really enjoy beaches for photography or sports... but in terms of just laying in the sun... my skin is not built for it lol, and I get bored easily. But I am warming up to beach life :)

Olinda and Recife have the biggest street carnaval in the world. In Recife the Carnaval start with the Galo da Madrugada in the saturday morning and goes all day with millions of people in the streets, after that in the sunday reccomend go to Olinda to see the Bonecos gigantes (giant dolls) and you are going to see many blocos de carnaval. In the night its good to go to Marco Zero, they also have some blocos de carnaval but they also have concerts.
The music played by the band is Frevo. 14:49 minutes.

Welcome to Porto. The guy with the puppet was dancing "forro". The music and the dance are very common in Pernambuco and Paraiba. You saw a small " bloco de rua" which is a street band that happens prior and during carnaval. They play " frevo" which we could dance with a small umbrella.
