Hey, I love your channel, despite being all the way in the UK, I find many of the same mushrooms this time of year in the same type of habitats. Hope your channel continues its success. Good luck!
You are Awesome aaron. I'm into all mushrooms. I love learning more every single day. With your help I will find my way. Thank you once again for your knowledge.
Great video Aaron, love seeing you out there at this time of year identifying so many species of mushrooms. I always learn something watching your videos. Thank you!!
Thanks for another awesome video! My partner and I learn a lot about the mushrooms we see from your videos and really appreciate what you are doing. Peace and love from Victoria, BC.
Love this video! People in Humboldt and Mendocino counties have been popping mushrooms all over. I think because it was so cold and now it's been sunny and warmer than before, they rhink it's spring. I haven't heard about anyone finding morels, yet. Still finding black trumpet, hedgehog and pig's ear. Some others, also. Plus the contour of the land makes it amazing what you can find.
Very interesting seeing mushrooms out here even after the snow we got! I haven't been outside for a minute on the trails, so it's interesting to see that we're still having fungal "bloom" in the dead of Winter! Another great video - thank you, Aaron.
I totally get running into people in "my woods". Ugh...Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. So interesting to see them in their various stages. Keep 'em coming.
I love love love your channel, I watch then re-watch most of your videos. Thank you for sporeing the knowledge of mushrooms. I appreciate your time. Thank you🙃🙂💚💜
Thanks for another great vid Aaron! I just started Shrooming last Sept in Victoria, BC and am appreciating your guidance in what to look for by season. Super helpful! ❤️🍄❤️🍁
Aaron - love watching your videos. My wife and I have become so hooked to foraging for mushrooms. We cut our teeth on chanterelles, COW, lobsters, cauliflowers. Now I gotta find some porcini and matsutakes next season. Thanks for your vid’s. We’re big fans
LOL on the Disney princess comment :D I love the music in the last couple mins of the video. Kind of sounds like little forest gnome music and it goes perfect with the mushroom theme. I like seeing Gunnar running around and being part of the hunt. I always take my Staffy named Callie and she loves it too. Thanks for posting! I've been holed up with a back injury and watchin your videos is the next best thing to being able to get out myself! Also, the last KPMS meeting was super enjoyable. Pretty excited to hear Alan Rockefeller next time too!
Thanks for picking up after the litter bugs! I've turned into a hermit too with all the social distancing! You sure do find some unique types of mushrooms. Peace!
I appreciate your videos and I completely agree with you on the pandemic feeding my hermit like personality. I have not been sad about that part of the last 2 years. I’m in central coastal range of Oregon and just started researching and forging for mushrooms. Your videos are amazing and so helpful. Thank you for doing what you do.
You guys still have a good bit of mushroom growth even in January. We don’t have too much going on here in GA. It dips down in the 20s at night lately and really stunted the growth. Sweet video. Cool to see mushrooms from the other side of USA.
Appreciate your videos a lot! I just started getting into foraging this year - learning lots with, certainly, a lot more to go. I'm in South Jersey - there's definitely a lot of mushrooms out there. I was able to find a couple mushrooms including hen of the woods - which tasted amazing! Unfortunately, I started my new hobby in late fall - didn't find much - looking forward to spring!
I love your channel. I just want to learn a little bit more about the mushrooms in my area I live in Northeast Georgia. I found a cabbage head mushroom the other day.
You're are a Mycologist. Did you think there was a pathway to a degree in Mycology and that's how one becomes a Mycologist? Thank you for what you're doing studying and teaching.
Keep up the good work Bruh!! Learned allot from all your informative videos man much love man you got a good ass channel especially for people just beginning thanks for your dedication dude
i love to watch these and test my knowledge 🥰 i try to name them before you tell us what they are, and i love learning all the kinds i don’t know. i live in the PNW in the vancouver area and there’s quite a few here too even in January
Luvin your winter series! Thanks for helping me up my game! Just north of you in Shohimish and so your content is relevant and fun!!! Great job! 👍 (Subbed)
Just subscribed, loved the content! I live in the high rockies so our foraging season only last about 3 months till it starts to freeze. I started last season with berries and other wild herbs and had so much fun. I stumbled upon so many Boletes during that time that I was too new to foraging to confidently gather. But after about a year now I'm kicking myself in the butt! I had so many tasty goodies in my reach. Next season with the help of great people like you, I'll be ready! Sorry for the wordy comment! lol
Great description of featured mushrooms and video! I'll look for another vid in February- even if there are the same similar mushies showcased. Just putting the info and photos out is important. Thank you.
I think I found a panther cap here right outside mexico city a couple months ago! There's more overlap of mushroom species here and there than I expected.
Aaron, would you let us know if you've RE-IDENTIFIED the "Sarcomyxa serotina" at 25:30; me thinks the olive oyster is much thicker, like the other oysters, and has very neat gills, like the other oysters. Darkish fresh horse poo (dark grey x yellow) colour cap, short yellow/orangey stipe. I've been finding masses of them this January 2023 on random dead branches, almost always upright or leaning, within feet of rivulets near the bottom of stream valleys. Fresh mature ones, in uk, are around 3.5-4.0 inches wide.Whereas in your video i see a small floppy bracket with chanterelle-like ridges, or maybe, because it's an old specimen, more like T betulinum ridges except that stump doesn't look like a birch... Am thoroughly enjoying all your videos, thank you for all your work! 🌳🕊🍄
I’m seeing a lot of the same mushrooms down here in Northern CA. It’s a little cool and wet out. No snow here. So it’s still fall/winter mushroom season! It’s going out here :)

A few years ago, while exploring an old logging road on the eastern slope of the Oregon coast range in the middle of Dec., I noticed that animals had been digging around the bases of second growth Douglas fir trees. Knowing that I was in a prime spot for truffles, I scratched around, but I think the critters cleaned them out. It was very damp and drizzly at the time and I noticed what appeared to be truffles growing right in the road in the mossy gravel. I picked a few to take home and check out. When I sliced them open, they had the same blue and white marbling that pictures of white truffles had, but all the info claimed they only grow underground. Unfortunately, I procrastinated on having them identified, and they got thrown out. Have you heard about truffles growing above ground, or were they some kind of toxic lookalike that usually turns out to be the case when I think I've scored.
Yeah sometimes they are upturned or seem to be growing just on the surface. What's the honestly the only way I've ever found them was just laying around. Like something else dug it up.
I know that you got all that muschrooms going on but when you are hungry out in forest please chomp on some blackberry leaf! It is kinda nice compering it to pine needles and its *EVERGREEN*
I always go mushroom hunting solo, I went a few days ago and walked my usual traiI, I got pretty deep into the woods when I heard something running off to my right… something didn’t feel right & I felt like I was being watched or something was following me…I’m always mushroom hunting solo in the summer when it’s warm and never get this weird Eerie feeling… first time winter mushroom hunting and I pretty much ended my day because I got so spooked i was only hunting for 30 minutes….It’s safe to say I won’t be doing any winter mushroom hunting this season

That is a good sense of humor because that is wildly incorrect and dangerous! Haha, white and brown are the colors of the world's most deadly mushrooms!!!🤦🤦🤦 Thanks for watching 🍄🤙
Still getting bears tooth and lion's mane in southern Oregon been a great season for the mane this year! Thanks for the vid. got my first cauliflower mushroom yesterday it was a lil past prime definitely going back next season!
You might be right about it being an amanita pantherina (panther cap) but if I saw that I would think it is an amanita exelsa as around where I live panther caps are a lot darker!
We only have a handful of Amanita that grow here in the pnw, so I am pretty confident in my ID, but down south and out east y'all have a lot more beautiful amanitas!
Yes a coon hound ! I’m so excited to meet the future addition to your family 💞🍄🙏🏻 Aso, the oysters and fish bones are from bears and birds ☺️ Lastly, I’ve only found tiny elven saddles in Colorado and I’ve never found any as large as you did, is there anyway you could go over the key identifiers in ones that are that large and oddly shaped? I would have never guessed that was the elven saddle given it’s shape and size As always, thank you Aaron and great video 🙏🏻🍄💞
i feel like im listening to my own head lol. the foraging conditions look a lot more appealing than missouri right now. how long have you been identifying mushrooms? you are so knowledgeable! mush love lol
I've seen charts that suggest that we should be able to find COW mushrooms here in PNW in the winter but you are saying not so, correct? I'm such a novice at this that I personally have no idea. And now I'm a bit confused. What is your experience, Aaron? When is the best time to find them?
Yeah I don't know where that chart came from but not in my experience. They're usually done by the end of October. I would love to be proven wrong but here in western Washington they seem to like summer and early autumn.
This new Mushroom hunter in Kitsap is really grateful for your content
Oh! That drawing your daughter made for you...a wonderful forever keepsake! Better than 1st finger paintings! ♥️
I always find the oyster shells too lol! So random! Anyhoo, thanks for continuing to share and educate!
