  • John Edwards describes the compositional elements of the first steps in the creation of a large relief sculpture. This first section is merely the basic geometrical pieces of what will become the more organic background for the presentation of a approximately life-size human figure in line with the other of his shamanistic figurative sculpture in this series.
To see where this piece is, or may be, headed in the links below Edwards talks about the nature of his figurative work.

    Enlightening..!!
Reassuring, and scary in the same time... Are we so well conditioned, programmed,... Then, is the practice of art liberation?.

Did you complete this piece? There are no more uploads. I hope all is okay with you and you're continuing your wonderful art pieces.

No. The piece is kinda stalled. In working on another project right now and it's eating up ALL my time. I have to figure out how, exactly, I'm going to proceed on this one. Still thinking. Thanks for your interest. Have fun. --John

Hmmm...however maybe I could do a short video on what it's like to be stalled and strategies for getting around such problems. (?) Might help other artists?

John, please do. I have actually been in a bit of a funk lately and have created very little art and not any for a couple of weeks. The cool weather hasn't helped (working with resin). However, this video was an inspiration for me to try something different and to enter an art competition /exhibition. I started the project today! So thank you for sharing your work and I look forward to more videos from you :)

      Thank you.
I'm anxious to see what sort of a solution I come up with next to keep moving on this thing, but I'm taking a pause and putting my energies into building the figure that goes along with this.

I love the use of the forms but feel that if anyone else but you, including myself, did the same it would be plagiarizing. (wish I would have thought of it first)

      Not at all
It wouldn't be plagiarizing any more than picking up a paint brush. The Styrofoam forms are just a medium, like clay or oil paint. It's what you do with them that makes them art. Have fun. John
