Fishyyy, The Me-410's are exceptionally lethal machines if you use all the guns in a single pass.

@@Fishyyy , from what little I saw in the first pass, you took down a B-17. You just got to hit the right portions of the bomber. That's more than most 109's and 190's. You can check the video if you want. Overall, an excellent video!
If the B6/R3 is available, it has 2 * 20mm cannons and 2 * 30mm MK103 cannons. That's in War Thunder, but maybe it is available in the IL-2 1946 game. I'm uncertain, but it's worth checking.
I know we always go on about how brave bomber crews were and rightly so but I cannot even begin too think what a german fighter pilot was thinking when he first saw the sheer scale of the bombers he was trying to shoot down they must of known there and then that the war was a lost cause.
Yeah I don't like what they stood for but it took huge balls to fly with 30 of your squadron mates to intercept a bomber formation of 500 planes escorted by 200 more
At least the Americans tried to hit important targets. They had the balls to fly by day and they knew they were making life Hell for themselves.

Johannes Steinhoff described flying through the defensive fire of an American bomber formation as being like trying to run through rain without getting wet, and that was *before* escort fighters started showing up in huge numbers. The sturmjager pilots had balls of steel.
@@signs80 It wasn't the case in the early years. First Schweinfurt saw 400 German fighters attack an equal number of unescorted B-17s.

Even today the graphics are not bad. 14 Years ago it was very good. I made the map for a mod pack and I could not use very large graphics because in that time the graphic cards were not as good as they are today. Today you can see the limitations. I am always thinking on making a new North Sea map. Therefore I will ask the Sturmovik team to make it in the new engine.

Yes it was, but the german 13mm was very lacking having the ballistics of the 20mm cannon. But not very effective with it's explosive rounds

very good visibility for deflection with this plane.
Could you post a short video of that? I've always been curious how the rear gunner aimed the weapons.
for such a great group of bombers, Ta 183 with X4 rockets and 4*30 mm cannons would be great. Nice flight anyway.

Well done! I'm a big fan of IL-2! This region is my homeland: did you start on Varel-Friedrichsfelde? Would it be possible to get the map from you?
The airport is indeed only about 6 km outside of Varel, but there is no name text on it so i am not sure. You can get the map at the sas1946 forum, installation may be tricky, though. It's called Wag_Nordsee. Nebenbei, ich komme auch aus Deutschland.
Great video! Just a question on tactics. Why not high side, front quarter attacks that could carry you from the high box through the center and lower boxes, possibly MK'ing more than one bomber on a pass? I kinda get the impression they drop their bombs if you nick their paint. ;-)
Sideways attacks are hard to do, if you get the angle only a bit wrong, you screw up the whole attack. At the time i felt more confident with frontal attacks. Also in Reality, aiming for the cockpit and nose was an easier way to fatally damage a bomber.

My version of 1946 doesn't have the Me-410. I wonder what else I'm missing...

It was far faster than what the Allies said it was and bang did it have a punch! I Think that British and American propaganda didn't want the trues speeds being revealed especially as the Germans had such poor quality aviation gas compared to the US and UK thanks to the USA! Germany had to make its aviation gas out of coal!

+blackvulcan100 HSFX6 is a mod for IL-2 1946, there also is a slightly newer version called HSFX7. I do play IL-2 1946 on Win7 and it works fine. In my opinion IL-2 1946 with mods is the simulator to go to.

да уж, лишних действий дохера. Особенно атака уже подбитого и соответственно потеря высоты и топлива. А вообще нельзя привыкать к слежению и полетам с внешних видов - это имба и чит. имхо.

Looks like a 'Group' [70 planes] not a 'Wing' [ca 4 Groups].
Bullshit.
A squadron consists of 6 - 7 ships.
3 squadrons (lead, high, low) make up one group (combat box), with 18 to 20 ships.
3 groups (lead, high, low) make up one combat wing with 54 to 60 ships.
Multiple wings make up a bomb division.
Multiple bomb divisions make up an air force.
Can you put the plane on auto pilot and jump into the gunner's seat?

Aftyer you pass thru head on why dont you pull up and loop back. YOu gain altitude and reduce the distance they are gaining away from you.
Because you *want* to get further away from them... getting out of the effective range of the gunners ASAP after an attack is how you stay alive. Pulling up after passing through would slow you down, especially in rather heavy twin engined plane, and make it much easier for the gunners to follow your flight path.
Additionally, doing a shallow turn conserves more speed than a vertical maneuver would, allowing for faster setting up of another frontal attack run.
A maneuver like you suggest may be suited for smaller, single engine fighters which have a very good power/weight ratio(like the Bf 109) and/or retain energy very well in the vertical, in addition to being a much smaller and more agile target... but it's not a good idea at all for a heavy fighter.
I can see the logic in that. It must have been frustrating as hell as a pilot tasked with shooting down bombers. So few attack chances and only a couple seconds opportunity to hit them. It makes me wonder how the US was able to put up so many bombers in their large raids coming from all the way accross the ocean and they had so few fighters to oppose. Just like the US had 1000 plane raids the Germans should have had 1000 fighter planes darkening the skies everyday.

You forgot to retract flaps after take off. That irritated me - I couldn't watch after 5 minutes.
I casually flew this 5 years ago and made a bunch of money with it. I don't give a fuck about some minor mistake i made 5 years ago.
That's fair enough, man. :-) Only it slows you down, could damage your flaps and could fail you your flight test!

The 1946 expansion added untested or even unbuild planes to the game. The setting is a "what if" scenario, contemplating what aircraft would have been used if WW2 went on.

Real air combat is "boring" monotony especially on escorts or BARCAP missions until the fight/combat part which is utmost terror and for the Navy pilots, the carrier landing after a grueling mission is also "exciting". Ciao, L (Veteran 118 combat missions)
