I think Jonny is the best piano teacher on YT. I've tried many different tutorials and Jonny really knows how to break it down and explain it in a comprehensible way. Making progress much faster now, thanks Jonny! 🙏🎶
We are a few days away from Christmas 2019; Merry Christmas everyone. I already got my Christmas gift. On December 8th I decided that I needed to sign up for Jonny's courses and as good as these videos are, you are in a treat for his courses. I'm loving it!
You are a really good teacher, there are many excellent players on RUclips but few really good teachers. I would recommend your course, another great tutorial
@@findus8269 I mean, jazz is an incredibly broad genre, but some of the best jazz songs ever are relatively basic blues progressions at their core. No need to shit on someone who's just beginning by belittling what they're learning.
Very cool, Thanks I have no music training but trying keys and I gained much from this lesson.. I started playing Stevie Wonders isn't she lovely to these notes,, Well a little.. Thanks just subscribed
What a great tutorial ! Very useful. As a guitarist playing acoustic Blues for a couple of years , I just started playing the piano. This Lesson shows it can actualy be really fun learning scales ! I have just one (maybe stupid) question (which has been asked before I think, but I couldn’t find the answer) : do you use the pedal on this one ? all the blues I played on piano so far was without pedal , but this chord progression and rhythm in the left hand seems like it needs some pedalling ? Or am I completely wrong ? (As I said, I’m not very experienced with the piano ) thanks a lot !
Thank you Johnny for your excellent videos. Unfortunately as a senior on a fixed income I cannot extend myself to your courses. However, I do want to emphasize how important your videos are to my enjoyment at the piano. Stay well and I'll be youtubing in. GD
Thanks to the master for the excellent lessons, some of the best on the subject, the presence of notes is very complementary. I would also like to know the backing tracks for the lessons.
Effortless technique and awesome musical feel! Johnny's tutorials provide expert instruction. They are very analytical, but they are also very concise and practical.
Hey I just wanna say that I love your channel! I have been picking up piano again and I struggled with putting the theory together with the hands-on playing. You explain things really well, thank you so much!!!
The best form of teacher and teaching I've ever seen as a professional musician. It is a great chance for those who want to learn to play piano and jazz. Thanks a lot and congratulations
Again a great lesson, thank you so much! I have question about fingering, when starting from another note do you recommend to keep the basic fingering (e. g. D-note #3) or start with another finger?
Hi Jonny, how can I fit a chord progression with a scale or vice versa. As an example in your video here your chord progression is in A minor Blue scale??? I try to understand. Thanks.
Jaoao, it does in this exercise, but advanced players share the beat interractively between both hands, and the pianist's job is largely defined by what else is in the band anyway. Sometimes you've gotta play the beat, but often you don't. Look how sparse Count Basie often was. He was one of the blues/jazz players from Kansas City, who most helped to establish the Swing movement. The tune Splanky is a good example.
Hi Jonny! Thanks a lot for this great video. I am just wondering... Can the A minor blues scale be used in other blues styles than slow blues? And can the C blues scale be used in slow blues? Thanks again!
Hi Jonny Curious about how the sliding up to the major 3rd from the minor 3rd works in other keys. For example: in B major sliding up from D to D# is a lot trickier than in A minor / C major sliding up from Eb to E. Do you just use two fingers in keys like B major? Thanks!
Trop drôle! Avec ces accords on peut jouer du blues comme ici, de la pop (Saturday in the park , Isn't she lovely...) en fonction du rythme (exercice 1).
That's true, line2groove. It doesn't have to be a 12-bar or 24-bar, but the importance of these classic forms should have been explained. If we're not careful, everything becomes a blues, and then of course, it's just another excuse to over-analyse a form that needs to be felt more than analysed. As a jazz musician, I used to analyse the blues far too much. Then a jazz teacher told me I didn't need him for blues - I just needed to let go. Since I already knew a lot about jazz and 12-bar sequences, the only concrete blues tip he gave me was to find two notes and make something happen. I would add to that: pump each note or lick till it's begging for mercy. Never move on to a new note until it feels necessary.
Hey guys. Method is OK, but remember that blues are 90% feeling and 10% method. Jonny forgot to mention that. You have to follow your instincts and be ready to break all the rules you learned before. A blues performance is like a street fight. Fight dirty! Speaking of which, try to set two notes against each other. Make them argue! A good blues artist is a scary person who seems to be sad or angry the whole time. So use your sadness and your anger. My other tips are, use the whole keyboard, play "wrong notes", exploit dissonance (particularly minor 2nds) and when in doubt, spread your chords.

This exercise also gets you a little bit of "Saturday in the Park" by Chicago (very little - but it's a start).
Best blues lesson ever.brilliant teacher

You are a really good teacher, there are many excellent players on RUclips but few really good teachers. I would recommend your course, another great tutorial
I used to say, "What's that jazz?" Now, all of a sudden, jazz is starting to make sense to me. Thank you Jonny for the excellent instructions.
Ok, but this isn't jazz at all.
@@findus8269 I mean, jazz is an incredibly broad genre, but some of the best jazz songs ever are relatively basic blues progressions at their core. No need to shit on someone who's just beginning by belittling what they're learning.
I am trying to learn jazz with you. I am 68 years old and pay attention in your classes. I Love you!
Cool simple scale thanks g
Great tutorial for beginers. Thank you for shearing!
I think this little lesson here is my favorite one,no matter what you play in this scale it really sounds good.
Incredibly helpful and fun lesson, as always!
Some progressions just sound cool and invite to play around with them - this is one of those for me, thanks a lot!
It’s an amazing, clear and really useful lesson. Thank you!!! 🎼🎶🎵
Big Thank's !
Hello Jonny,
Could you do more videos for slow blues please.
Thank you so much for every thing
Very cool, Thanks I have no music training but trying keys and I gained much from this lesson.. I started playing Stevie Wonders isn't she lovely to these notes,, Well a little.. Thanks just subscribed

Adding a little pedal will help smooth it out a bit! Thanks for watching!

Your tutorials are amazing thank you so much
I'm going insane with all of this because I still need a keyboard! Used to play classical but going to go in this direction.
Thanks Jonny
Thanks Johnny, if the lockdown goes on at least I will be a better piano player
This session is very useful.. Thank you Jonny
This is great! Exactly what I've been looking for, thanks Jonny 👍🎹
Happy to help!
I love it. Thanks a lot.
Lived it
Thanks to the master for the excellent lessons, some of the best on the subject, the presence of notes is very complementary. I would also like to know the backing tracks for the lessons.
Effortless technique and awesome musical feel! Johnny's tutorials provide expert instruction. They are very analytical, but they are also very concise and practical.
🔥🔥🔥
very nice, thx, but I prefer start it to the last bar, Am-Am7...F#7..Fm7..and one ..Am...
Hey I just wanna say that I love your channel! I have been picking up piano again and I struggled with putting the theory together with the hands-on playing. You explain things really well, thank you so much!!!
So glad to hear it!
I love how after the last excerise example when Johnny speaks to the camera, the backing track is still running but with some cool playin ^_^
Alway high quality content!!
This guy is ''The Guy''
Amazing lesson. Great job. Well done.

good lesson♥
Again a great lesson, thank you so much! I have question about fingering, when starting from another note do you recommend to keep the basic fingering (e. g. D-note #3) or start with another finger?
Should I use the pedal while doing this
Hi Jonny, how can I fit a chord progression with a scale or vice versa.
As an example in your video here your chord progression is in A minor Blue scale??? I try to understand. Thanks.
This is great, thanks. My question is about the base chords, does it always have the same beat all along the song ?
Yep
Jaoao, it does in this exercise, but advanced players share the beat interractively between both hands, and the pianist's job is largely defined by what else is in the band anyway. Sometimes you've gotta play the beat, but often you don't. Look how sparse Count Basie often was. i couldn't find the downloads. You know the ones you said were there.!!
In site piano with jonny, there is subtitle in the videos class?
Hi Jonny! Thanks a lot for this great video. I am just wondering... Can the A minor blues scale be used in other blues styles than slow blues? And can the C blues scale be used in slow blues? Thanks again!
Hi Carlos ! You can use the Aminor, or Cminor Blues scale for other blues-songs. It`s not the question of `slow`or `fast!`
Where can I download the backing track from? I don’t see any link on his website. Anyone?
Great lesson, you should have mentioned the importance of the stank face though on the extra tasty lines
Hi Jonny
Curious about how the sliding up to the major 3rd from the minor 3rd works in other keys. For example: in B major sliding up from D to D# is a lot trickier than in A minor / C major sliding up from Eb to E. Do you just use two fingers in keys like B major?
Thanks!
is it possible to slide from a white key to a black key?
Mantap bro
The exercise reminds of the song "Hello" by Lionel Richie way back in the 80's. LOL.
Is there anyway to take advantage of the promo offered on dec 3rd?
Trop drôle! Avec ces accords on peut jouer du blues comme ici, de la pop (Saturday in the park , Isn't she lovely...) en fonction du rythme (exercice 1).
Imbposiblus!!!
10:11 I would like more details on these =p
When you show the slides it doesn’t highlight the black keys which it should.
Where is the backing track to download?
You can download the backing track on the lesson page after logging into your membership.
hello my friend , why we call it 8th notes ?
will yo
The Blues sounds better on an old Upright
Good lesson, but being from Chicago, when you say "a slow blues" you expect a very specific form. Still a good lesson though
That's true, line2groove. It doesn't have to be a 12-bar or 24-bar, but the importance of these classic forms should have been explained. If we're not careful, everything becomes a blues, and then of course, it's just another excuse to over-analyse a form that needs to be felt more than analysed.

i would recommend christian fuchs youtube channel for anyone trying to expand their blues playing
What kind of bast... comment. Completely wrong place here. Make your own video, then make publicity on your own video for somebody else.

I can’t hit thumbs up. It’s on a black key!
Aren’t these 16th notes, not 8th notes? “1 e + a 2 e + a …” You’re playing on the “a”.
Am I missing something?
Very Good send me vidéos please ki
Why you never speak about pedal? Don’t you use it at all or what?
Please...play more and talk less.
This is great. Thanks!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thank you!!!
