No, your "boss music with regular enemies on the screen and the boss not appearing until they were defeated" is not due to the code, it happens in regular game play too
At the title screen you can use the Konami code, up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Start. You'll get 4 continues instead of 2. That's the only code there is without using the Game Genie.
There is nothing classic about this "game." It was so profoundly bad that I hope it drops off the Earth and never returns. Skip this game and play the excellent TMNT the Arcade as it was truly amazing. It was so good I had a Genesis at the time and I chose to buy it instead of a game for my 16-bit console.
