I realized it's been 5 months since my last Game Genie video. Love making these, so look out for more this year!
I love watching them. Ever since I started messing with GG codes in the early 2000s I've always loved pumping in random codes to see what crazy effects would happen.
One of the best, which I unfortunately didn't document, was in Ninja Gaiden 2. It made the background in the first stage scroll like the parallax stage 2 background, so it was just chunks of the level scrolling at different speeds.
killgruz thanks for uploading this 👌👍
Yes! Thank goodness! I just got it in my recommended and I was so happy!
🤗😊👍
Your awesome
I love how you always come up with fully pronounceable mnemonics for Game Genie codes!
The original "Luigi moon jump" code worked like the hover code, however there were a couple of steps involved physically to get it to work.
Basically, it was like this:
- Use Luigi to do high jump charge after implementing code
- Let go of Jump button to allow Luigi to fall (make sure jump is performed on elevated platform for full effect), then hold jump button before landing.
- While holding jump (preference only), run in either direction off the edge of platform and don't stop. Instant airwalk!!
**Side note**
For extra fun, you can make Luigi into a UFO by doing the "jumping duck and slide" from the original Super Mario Bros.
Basically, if you duck before running off the edge, Luigi's crouched form looks like a little "green Luigi saucer".
I lost my book years ago, but I'm sure the code is online somewhere.
Love the vid but the way you deliver dialogue + your voice I'm anticipating you confessing to commiting a murder then moving on to another code. 10/10 I subscribed, looking forward to more vids
"I lift things up and put them down."
- Mario Bros. 2 Mario
Needfuldoer Lol!
Ha ha! Nice! Best comment.
Warehouse life...
Put them down? More like lob 'em across the screen.
“Never before did a Mario game have such amazing mechanics.”
Well, yeah, I mean...never before had another Mario game been released in the US lol.
William Ferraro *(SMB1 would like to know your location)*
SMB1, Mario Bros, and Donkey Kong.
Where are you going at?
Golf, Wrecking Crew, Pinball
There is honestly not enough content for how great SMB2 is, especially when it comes to messing with the game. Thank you for making this video.
That's why I stopped drinking, wherever I get drunk I can't effectively float jump...
" I've got codes that will do magical things. "
Don't toy with me witch.
These videos always bring me back to the days of homebrewing Game Genie codes for games and seeing what I can come up with. Sadly I didn't have SMB2 to play with.
GLVOLAZU
Pulling up small vegetables gives you a Sub-space door
i find it in the internet but it sounds good.
I am going to give that challenge a try. SMB2 is one of my most played games from the past and I cannot wait to see how it obscures certain places. Awesome video good Sir! Thank you!
Listening to Killgruz's soothing voice is all the therapy I need.
Whoa! That earthquake mode was intense. And it sounded like you needed a drink of water afterwards 😅
Some codes work differently on PRG0, PRG1. The Japanese version (Super Mario USA) is the same as PRG1. If you don't know what PRG0 and PRG1 are, the game pak and box have the revision letter of REV A and REV B respectively.
Mario 2 was my favorite Mario game on the NES . I could beat it as a young kid . Mario 3 I liked but it was to hard of a game for me at that time . It needed a save option .
Mario 3 has a save option...
Millennials.....
@@TrentonDoesStuff. not on the original Nintendo.
That's crazy those floating and magic carpet codes weren't in the books that's an amazing code
I'm really glad to hear you'll be doing more Game Genie videos. Those are my favorite. 👍
They look pretty fun especially the pull stuff from the background code. Question. Since a code gives you a carpet, what happens if you enter that first door in the sky in 1-1?
It won't let you on the carpet, but there is another code that lets you enter the door. It respawns you at the top of the screen
hell yeah sweet video gruz! I happened to discover a code for Mario 1 while I was just punching in random stuff. OPENZZ: Mario is either on the left or right side of the screen, weird beeping noise and trippy colors. you dont get very far as the game crashes by the 3rd pipe in 1-1
Gruz,
Ypu rock live your vids.
So grateful after all this time you still choose to share entertainment
10 minutes.
10 genie game codes.
PERFECT.
Thank you for reminding me of how of much I love Super Mario Bros. 2 and of hours of messing around with Game Genie when I was a kid (which included pronouncing the codes phonetically as you do here!). This video made an instant subscriber out of me.
Awesome vid Killgruz. Just walked my dog (named Yoshi) and sat down eating a burger with a beer whilst watching this. Time for some Luigi's Mansion before the wife gets back!
WRFM PaRaDoX awesome 😎
Oh, hey, it’s LGR’s long lost relative bringing us more awesomeness in the form of Game Genie codes for the best NES Mario game. Glad you’re back, bruh. 😆
Jolis Parsec who’s lgr
Nik Clint (Also known by his RUclips channel name Lazy Game Reviews or “LGR” for short). Killgruz sounds remarkably similar to LGR whenever he talks, hence my comment about them being long lost relatives. 😋
@@Jolis_Parsec And Clint commented on a bunch of his videos even.
There’s something so endearingly dorky about your voice. Wonderful to fall asleep listening to you. Thanks!
That magic carpet code makes me wonder what happens if you go up to that door you fall from at the start of the game and go in it.
...Looking it up, it seems somebody tried it and what ends up happening is you just go to the same area you're in, but higher up than the door.
Using the magic carpet you can't seem to go into the door with it
CHEEZPLZ - Play as Mouser (If Only...) BTW Mario 2 was always my favorite Mario! Great video Gruz!
Ah yes, Doki Doki Panic. I love this game. :)
What?
@@zackiechan2601 the original version of this game
Now it's Mario Mario Panic.
We get it, you watched the nostalgia critic
@@buhshmuh I've seen a few of their videos, yes.
2:25 lol "See here you got your ladder trees...." like it's the normal thing to have.
I came across your channel a few months ago and have been binge watching your videos. I think my favorite part of every video is how you attempt to pronounce the game genie codes like they were actual words.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the video man. This is what RUclips is about.
To add to my comment. I like your no nonsense commentary, would you be up for regular play throughs? I enjoy a relaxed background of good gameplay. Life can be unnecessarily stressful and stuff like this is a distracting world of bliss.
Nice find on that infinite float code my man
Hey, a new Killgruz vid. I was looking for a reason to procrastinate, too...
Your videos are some of the most entertaining things on the internet! You have a magic touch
Some friends of mine (3 brothers) had an NES that started glitching sprites on games, especially SMB2. So all doors would be birdos, shy guys would be mushrooms and your character could be anybody. Made for a funny time
It looks like what AAPPZA does is set the flag for picking up a cherry permanently. This obviously explains all the cherries and stars, but it also explains why and how it erases background graphics, because part of the cherry routine is to remove the cherry from the scenery. If it's not a cherry, then it just removes whatever tile is on that spot instead.
You missed the chance on number 2 to say "We all float down here" :P
Great video! My sister and I used to sit and put in foul words and random stuff. So many memories.
Fun video as always my guy, keep em comming
I love the nostalgia, man, keep it up!
Good video as always. Keep up the good work!
When I heard the ok bye police sirens rang outside lmao
I don't know any codes but I think if they could add codes than a tag team code would be sweet
Crazy shit man 😂😂 keep up the great vids.
How this comment cannot get many likes?
That last code could be a simulation of Frieza destroying the world Planet Vegeta style lol
I'm intrigued by the commentary pacing/tone. It almost has a feel like, Bob Ross gentle explanation, mixed with kids movie narrator like "Milo and Otis" where theres personalization of events on screen.
Another great video! Thank you! Keep up the incredible work!
8:23 Toad: "damn"
woah drunk mode is wild
If I seen these codes in the 80's I think I would have been more impressed .
With the LEGPIO code, if you go through a potion door and try to collect a coin, the game will freak out.
They all float down here
at midnight the subtitles do help me a lot!
Mind......blown!! Little did I know about these!
It'd be awesome if there was a Super Mario Bros. 3 code that somehow allowed you to spawn Goomba Shoes, similar to the magic carpet code in this video
Love your content, love your humor
I commend you for getting this up to 10 minutes.
My NES use to initiate the ‘graphics enhancer’ code quite often all by itself, at random times, no Game Genie required. On multiple games at that.
This wasn't exactly a brand new mario game, it's a re-skin of Doki Doki Panic
Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally
PEMDAS
Parentheses, Exponents, Multiply, Divide, Add, Subtract
I'm the UK we learnt it as BIDMAS. Brackets, indices, multiplication, division, add, subtract
@@duffman18
I thought in the UK it was BODMAS with the O being Orders
@@bcast9978 well we learned both, it depended on the teacher. But I remember using BIDMAS way more because I distinctly remember not having a clue what indices were. It's all the same thing anyway
BCast 👌
Breaking the game! Breaking the game!
Great video K'gruz. There's a game genie code for SMB where all enemies throw hammers. Have you seen a game genie code for SMB2 where all enemies shoot eggs bullets or fireballs. That would be a real challenge code!
Hey I love ya channel! Found it last night, subbed and thumbs
Great video !
The behind the background code reminded me of in SMB3 when you duck on a white platform and you fall behind the background
What was the remix used in the outro? I really like how it sounds.
Hello the griz. Keep em up my dude.
They made a Super Mario Brothers 2?! What's next? Super Mario Brothers 3?
Just kidding. Challenge code allenge code enge code ode ode ode... !
The American release of Super Mario Bros. 2 was literally a Japanese game with mario sprites placed on top of the characters and other slight changes
This game was a unique and refreshing take on the series. As a matter of fact, the first three Mario games were all weird experiences with the third game drawing directly from the first one but with such a different feel to it. Such pure talent! If only Nintendo was still what it was back then today...
LMAO at that bouncing POW block.
The "drunk mode" really messed with my head
Great video! I'd love to see what you can do with the Game Genie with the Super Mario All-Stars version of SMB2 in the near future. Keep up the good work.
I love exploring areas!
earthquake mode too
cool video dude!
Its doing the cherry noise constantly because the tiles are all acting like cherries in some way, including air blocks. That's why they disappear. Should i try to look how to disable that sound effect, or you no longer care?
7:34 - We all float down here...
You didn't try YEAAAAA?
I love how he says code
my brains too fried to tell if GXXVLGAX is working
4:03 I think you've just invented Geometry Dash
3:40 GTLEGA
aka... Blast processing!
Gotta go fast!
Speedrun it
So you are my grandma and can't process things going over 20 fps
@@TrentonDoesStuff. Dude... Give me a break! I can easily handle 21 FPS and with 4 sprites on the screen at the same time! I bet you can't process anything over.... ummm... wait... Where's my walker? Billy, is that you sonny? You were always my least favorite grandchild!
On the nes
For the game my favorite code was the infinite float. I think it only works with princess peach.
This really helped me well sort of I just wanted to play around
Mah favorite code is YEAAAAAHHHH BOI. Glad to see you back.
My son is gonna go nuts over these lol.
4:46 the vegetable on the top was supposed to be a 1-up mushroom but it was a bomb instead
GTLEGA gonna be some speed running shit someday
if you use legpio and then enter a door that has super mario bros music in it then when you pick up an item then it glitches the game out
I like the way the original NES versions looks as compared to the SNES Super Mario All Stars version. I just picked up the original today and will be trying your codes. Thanks!
why the zee code happened without the game genie sometimes when u had to blow in the tape to get it to work
Game Genie Rocks!
These codes are definitely cool ,i wish i discovered them back then, now i remember that i discovered a code wich will not only turn the game into B&W but also will glitch music into a pitchless version of it.
I used Mario bro’s 2 game genie codes on a Mario bro’s 2 homebrew hack that was hard as hell and they worked. Got me through most of the game.
The Enemies Should’ve always been following you intelligently. If you play a game called Mr. gimmick they do that
Special abilityes:
Mario prinnces and toad: flying
Luigi: flying to gods
The fifth code makes some levels unbeatable. Pidget (the carpet flyer) will fall off screen and no carpet will be available. 1-2, 3-1 and 5-3 can't be beaten. Also the bird mouth in 7-2 is very glitchy and also makes game unbeatable.
