When Jack Elam started out he was an accountant for a few movie studios. His famous "eye" was caused by a classmate throwing a sharp pencil at his eye. It forever deformed his eye and some sight was lost. His reading fine print and numbers all day was taking it's toll on his vision. So he came up with a life changing idea. He offered to partially bankroll low budget movies.....IF.......he was allowed to have an acting roll in the film. Eventually the right people took notice of him and he became one of the most sought after memorable character actors in TV/movie history.
*Organ Music* "What is this crude interruption?!?" And then the whole explanation about cysts on the walls of her lungs. "Why, we can't even go through Denver, it's so high!" Fantastic! 😆
Now....... this is real live American heart and soul!!! The very comfortable and safe 80s. Those old comedians are timeless, and so are all those good old boy movies they made. God Bless is all!!!!
@Charlie Luciano - Underrated? How? It´s not like you will see any Oscar-worthy acting, and some of the jokes are quite bad. Yes, it´s a funny movie - and I had some good laughs back in the 1980s when i watched it....but underrated? No....not in my opinion.
I'm getting old. all those great stars in this scene are gone now. this movie always cracked me up especially capt chaos...those who seen the movie will know who that was.
Who knew that Jack Elam who usually played a villain in the older western movies could be so hilarious? I remember going to the movies with my family when I was about 8 years old and is still one of my all time favorites
wow i remeber this as a kid so glad i found it now jack elam was so good, the film was aswell, not every9ones fav but the comedy was there brilliant stuff
Professor of proctology and other related tendencies, graduate of the university of Rangoon and assorted night classes at the Knoxville Tennesee college of faith healing. Well, I feel safer already. When do we start?
Dom Deluise was priceless he will be missed but never forgot about he was a great man and comedian. Just like Bernie Mac,Rodney Dangerfield, Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx and those who have passed before him. We are sad but appreciative at the laughs that he gave us while he was here
JJ: "don't you EVER tell me where you got him, I don't wanna know where you got him..." Victor: "...OK, I was just surprised that all the animals there were..." JJ: "I don't wanna know where you got him!" rofl, that line was priceless
I was on the floor with tears coming down because I was laughing so hard when I heard that. It went right back when Victor said "Before I open this, don't get your hopes up too high, I WAS PRESSED FOR TIME!"
Cysts on the walls of her lungs. Very rare. You see, airplanes are only pressurized at 10,000 feet. Anybody who knows anything about medicine knows.. that she can't fly, she has to be driven. We couldn't even go through Denver, it's so high.
I always loved when Dean Martin opens the van, sees the Doctor and that organ music plays. Just the look on Dean's face was priceless. He was drunk as hell but he looks like he sobers up real quick.
Jack Elam absolutely STOLE this movie! He is a lost art - those that just DO things funny! I was just watching the "California, here we come..." part, and I'm laughing as hard as I did 40 years ago!
The organ playing when he appears is just perfect. XD
Dr. Frankenstein music... =)

Ludwig van Beethoven !

This is hilarious, RIP Jack, Dom, Farrah, and Burt.. what a cast this entire movie had.

William Scott "Jack" Elam lost vision in the left eye at age 12 when a fellow Boy Scout jabbed him with a pencil during a scuffle at a troop meeting.
@Shannon L. Freng certainly a unique way to get into the movies.....and what a long career he had.

Cannonball Run Doctor. Hilarious title in itself. The organ playing is hilarious too
Watched the doctors part on this movie several times over. Crying with laughter every time.
The organ music was genius.

It's just a rip-off of The Gumball Rally.
@@trikkerman1 But the gumball rally sucked! 🤭
The way his face lights up with excitement at 3:30 is my favorite part. HAHAHAHA!!!!! God I love this movie!!!
What the hell did he inject himself with?
I'm getting old. all those great stars in this scene are gone now. this movie always cracked me up especially capt chaos...those who seen the movie will know who that was.
No, he was...Dun dun DAAAAA: Captain U.S.A.!!
You know I don't want you to mention "him"
Who knew that Jack Elam who usually played a villain in the older western movies could be so hilarious? I remember going to the movies with my family when I was about 8 years old and is still one of my all time favorites
Awe, these were the days. This was on every Xmas 😍
Jack Elam could do comedy as well as drama equally well.
Jack Elam, what a great and funny guy and the part was perfect.
"I was thinking more aloing the lines of two hundred doallars."

"you may be a little over qualified for this job" lol
"My god the perfect specimen"
That "frog faced, drunk doctor" is the one and only Jack Elam. What a character!!!
Dr van Helsing rules!!! I love his scary organ theme music
That organ when Victor opens the door is hilarious! Elam was cool, didn't mind poking fun at himself.
Jack Elam.....Legend
wow i remeber this as a kid so glad i found it now jack elam was so good, the film was aswell, not every9ones fav but the comedy was there brilliant stuff
Now THAT is the kind of doctor I want, not stuck in their laptop unwilling to make eye-contact.
When he gives Reynolds a Dirty Sanchez LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
this movie is a complete classic
Jack Elam and Marty Feldman should have done a movie together.
I have th out that for sooooo long!
"Double Vision."
Burt has one of the best laughs :D
At the scene by the train station Jack Elam was one of the 3 men Harmonica shoots in Once upon a time in the west.
Professor of proctology and other related tendencies, graduate of the university of Rangoon and assorted night classes at the Knoxville Tennesee college of faith healing. Well, I feel safer already. When do we start?
Priceless!
Dom Deluise was priceless he will be missed but never forgot about he was a great man and comedian. Just like Bernie Mac,Rodney Dangerfield, Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx and those who have passed before him. We are sad but appreciative at the laughs that he gave us while he was here
What an actor...not many like this level of talent these days...in my not very worldly opinion.
One of The Greatest Comedy Characters Ever. Absolutely stellar casting and performance. Legendary scene stealer. Nonstop🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"California here we come! Right back where we started from!"
Don’t you ever tell me where you found him...... Ever..... LMFAO
I like the fact that we never learned where Victor found him. It's one of big movie mysteries, (after the three shells).
At a veterinary clinic
This clip from Cannonball Run makes my day lmao
Cysts on the walls of her lungs. Very rare. You see, airplanes are only pressurized at 10,000 feet. Anybody who knows anything
about medicine knows.. that she can't fly, she has to be driven. We couldn't even go through Denver, it's so high.
I always loved when Dean Martin opens the van, sees the Doctor and that organ music plays. Just the look on Dean's face was priceless. He was drunk as hell but he looks like he sobers up real quick.
The disclaimer given prior to the ambulance door being opened was priceless!
I hope the people who did the casting for this film received the Nobel LOL Award.
Elams facial expressions are priceless.
The bit where the doc is injecting himself cracks me up every time :)
Jack Elam absolutely STOLE this movie! He is a lost art - those that just DO things funny! I was just watching the "California, here we come..." part, and I'm laughing as hard as I did 40 years ago!
On a sobering note, it seems very strange to watch the ambulance scenes and realize they're all gone. Doesn't seem possible.
❤️ Jack Elam!
I've been using the line "what is this crude interruption?" for nearly forty years. No one gets the reference.
Jack Elam, just the kind of doctor you'd want to see heading the covid-19 vaccine development
Couldn't be any worse then what we had.
Lmfao. No matter how many times I watch this scene I die.
I love this movie , the doctor is my favorite person
Where victor got the Doc is still a mystery even today..:)
"What is this crude interruption!" A line I try to use to this day.
Don't you EVER tell me where you found him.

In my opinion, Jack Elam stole every scene he was in.

Like in Young Frankenstein
That organ when the show the Doc is the best!!
And this is the guy who assembled your headlights (Home Improvement) 😂
Before I open this, don't get your hopes up too high, I WAS PRESSED FOR TIME!
