I've got a bunch of these oscillating tools. Have the Rockwell corded, Bosch 12 volt and a DeWalt 355. FREAKIN love my DeWalt. Had it about a year and a half, still one of my go-to tools when I just need to hack something off or even a quick sanding. Love your reviews!! 👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
I own this oscillating saw and so far it hasn't disappointed. I haven't used it a lot, but it has performed well in the projects I have used it for. I think that Milwaukee oscillating saw is slightly faster and quieter, but the blade release is system is better than Milwaukee's. I don't own the Milwaukee, so I can't make a first-person comparison, but the Milwaukee has been faster in every review I have watched, but not a lot faster. I basically got this tool for free because I got two free tools if I paid $300 for two DeWalt 5 amp hour batteries and a charger. It was a spectacular deal because the two 5 amp hour batteries generally cost $250.00 without the charger (though Amazon has them on sale for $130 currently). Regardless, I got the DeWalt cutoff saw and attachments and this oscillating tool basically for free. So far I have been very impressed and I own the corded Fein oscillating tool, which is considered to be one of the best made.
If I had to choose out of all my tools which ones are my favorites and most useful tools would be the Milwaukee isolator the Sawzall Milwaukee's M18 ripsaw Sawzall and then maybe the leaf blower for cleaning up but definitely the oscillator do touch multi-purpose if I'm putting floors in I don't have to remove the molding around doors I can just cut it it's so many things to use an oscillator that's why it's important to feel how comfortable it is
I need a battery powered multitool and was thinking about the Dewalt dcs356b. Your two-year review cinched the deal for me. Thanks for taking your time to let us know your thoughts on the tool. Stay safe and have a good day!
I bought the corded version cos I’m not a tradesperson and I couldn’t see me needing it in the middle of a field😂….but it is real nice piece if kit…feels nicely balanced, as far as it can be. Blade change is effortless and I like the light since corners on floors can be dim. Might consider the battery version if I can sell the corded one, but it’s not a priority for me. Great tool.
Before Dewalt came out with this, I bought one of the older Rockwells which turned out to be a pain in the a** to change blades. Even now, their hook and loop mounts pull off when you pull the sanding pad off. They are poorly made in my opinion. I got fed up last night and went ahead and got the Dewalt and it is superb. Plus, it is the same platform as all of my other Dewalt cordless 20 volt which gives me another battery and charger. I use the oscillating tool a lot. It's especially great for sheetrock work
I got the gnomes version and I love it. Don't matter what quality brand you buy as I agree 100% with your comment that this tool is awesome! I was working with a guy that was tellin' me they were crap. Low and behold we needed to cut a bastard of a hole (location wise) for some pipe. Grabbed the little buzzer and was done in seconds. Next time I saw him I noticed he had a brand spanking new oscillating tool in his truck. Lol
Just picked up the Dcs356b the other day. After tons of research, I decided to go with this Dewalt. I’m a DeWaukee fan as well as Rigid. I just love tools👍. Keep it Moist.
Ive got the dewalt 12v one and it’s a beast. I love the mechanism to put the blades on and take off. My friend who has the 20v version says my 12v one cuts faster than his.
Great video and thanks for demonstrating the tool in action. You almost played “Auld Lang Syne” when cutting that 1”x, LOL! I just got a 356 XR with the three speed settings - what an awesome machine. DeWalt keeps making great stuff.
That's another reason why I like the Milwaukee oscillator because it has the on and off switch and then numbers 1 through 12 I believe so that's right there the main reason why I purchased the Milwaukee over the DeWalt but then again the big reason I like to go to the store and purchase my tools I like to feel heavy and the way it fits in my hand just to see how comfortable because if you're not comfortable with the tool most likely you're not going to use it anyways that's how I feel but have a great day brother
I absolutely love mine and have had it for a few years. The thing I wish is it came with a belt clip, I did put one on mine but it didn't come with the nut I had to take it out of one of my other tools and it was a pain in the ass to get the nut in the little hole.
I've got one, it's been a good performer. You've had yours longer than I've had mine so it's good to know that it holds up. Getting ready to use it on an outdoor storage project to set some hinges.
I have just replaced a couple of broken tiles on my terrace. I didn't have a tool like this and getting out the old glue and grout was a pain. I did it, but I was on my knees much longer than I wanted to be. I have now ordered one of these De Walt babies and I'm actually looking forward to replacing the remaining cracked tiles. I just know it will be a breeze.
My dremel 6300 finally died it ran about 10 years of use. But it died on the last jamb I was cutting on a bathroom tile job I’m currently on. I immediately thought of the Dewalt oscillating 20v set up. Went to Lowe’s thinking they had the $99 tool only special. Nope just the $159 tool only dcs356b. Looked at everything else but decided naw I’m getting the dewalt. Paid the price but love the tool. Cut like a monster that last jamb. Grabbed an old blade and scraped the floor for like 15 mins. It has uses. eBay has them cheap as $90 but I couldn’t wait had to have it in my hands today
@Tool Review Zone. Thanks Clint for these long term reviews. It's also nice of you to take the fall for your clumsy twin brother who's keeps dropping the tools he borrows from you. Hope you and your family stay safe and well.
I loved mine until it took a dump. I've had it for 3 years and as a door installer, I use it regularly and probably abuse it at times. A little bearing failed that is on the end of the motor that goes into the gearbox. You can not buy just the bearing. You have to buy the whole motor assembly that costs about the same as a whole new tool. With that being said I'll buy another Dewalt. I did buy a Rockwell corded one because I was in the middle of a job when it failed. They were all out of the Dewalts, so I was forced to buy the Rockwell to finish the job.
Hi, thanks for the video... I have been using a similar Dewalt multitool but the corded model for over a year now. It is amazing as you mentioned probably the best multitool you can get. Shame I didn't spend more money on the cordless model. That is my only regret☹...
Out of all the videos you’re the only one to answer my one question. Can you lock the trigger in the on position. Thank you for that sir. That’s probably the most important thing with a trigger style switch.
I bought that same DeWalt tool last December and also scored on the case of DeWalt Oscillating Tool Blades for $24.97 from HD, however, when I tried to cut a protruding 12D nail from a piece of wood, I about buggered-up more than half of the blades, and STILL barely scratched that dang nail! It was then and there, that I realized an Oscillating Tool is ONLY good for cutting thru Sheetrock and 1”x2”s! Save your money and buy a Sawzall instead, is my advice! Couldn’t return the tool, as it was a BOGO FREE Tool, and had been over 6 months when I FIRST used the blasted tool! Ugh!!!
You just gave me an idea... I just ordered a Milwaukee 1/4” impact kit with 2 batteries and a charger and a 1/4” ratchet. I think the ratchet is just an extra, so won’t have a place in the case I’ll be getting. Maybe I can use my Dewalt oscillating tool to cut a space for it!
How's the battery life on this tool? Meaning would you get an hour out of life battery with 20 minutes of continuous use with couple of minute breaks. I tried the Milwaukee fuel m12 and 2.0 just lasts less than 12 minutes. Returned it and got the corded Dewalt.
looking at this tool and it comes with tool, charger, and 1 battery , but its a small 1.3 mah. do you know about how long run time might be? using it for basic things.
Thanks, best review and I went out and bought the Dewalt oscillating multi tool, DCS354 because of your reviews. Question, and by watching your video I think I have my answer, but for others I'll ask anyway. When I insert the blade, even dewalt blades, it doesn't seem to be fully seated on the tool's teeth. Is that the design?
Just got one recently, Octane model. I have the multi tool head, the jigsaw head., and the rotary cutter head (haven’t used that one yet.), so far, I love it. Never owned or used a multi tool before, so I can’t give any direct comparisons, but it does everything I’ve tried so far. It does appear to have the same issue with speed control, as far as I can tell, you can only lock it at max speed. Lower speeds have to be controlled manually.
After 2 years, in fact, 1 year 11 months and twenty eight days. Mines stop oscillating, even though the motor is running. At the same time about a week before, my favorite Dewalt impact driver smoked. 😢
I love my DeWalt oscillating tool use it all the time. Did you know that the trigger pivots about the centre so you can use the top end too and lock it that way as well?
I used my all day and set it aside for the night. The next morning, it turns on but there is no vibration to the blade. Any ideas as to what could be the problem. Tools is only a month old.
Curios. I got the atomic dewalt and just picked up the Milwaukee blades and they don’t seem to sit flush in the quick connect pins. Is that normal that there is a gap?

I have bought this when I did not have many tools but now have better options for everything I thought i could use it for. And the blades for multitools are either crap or heavily overpriced. Also the noise is really annoying :) however, the tool itself is really thought out well and I can see its indeed has some few uses that are difficult with other tools. Only that I don’t have those... :) love my other Dewalt tools though but this one is very rarely used now. Greetings, Anna
That's so nasss like🙌🏽 smeesh that like button 👀👉🏽 👍🏽 I opted for the Milwaukee M18 oscillating tool because of the ability to control the speed on a dial and keep it at a desirable speed, then I got the Skil 12V brushless oscillating tool because it's much quieter and less vibration.
I love it, I use it to remove old silicone caulking around the tubs and sinks with a long tapered straight edge blade, it does the job quite nicely, less vibration and quieter than any 18V and 12V oscillating tool.
Great review on ergonomics, explanation, and entertainment! BUT you should include some nail cutting and wood with nails driven into it cutting clips. Also..only been in the trade for 8 years, but I think you should use a titanium coated blade for such tests instead of the round blade. They are very affordable online for us hoes watching and would give a more realistic example. Good work!!!
Yeah, the paddle switch isnt for me. Normal switch, plus dial to change the speed would be better. Also that paddle above the blade would get in a way sometimes.
I haven’t found the paddle to be an issue yet, except on blade changes, where you have to be diligent about locking the trigger to make sure you don’t accidentally turn the saw on when changing a blade. The trigger is really more of a rocker paddle, in that you can activate the saw by squeezing either end of the switch, which is nice if you need to change grip. With the new DCS356, there’s a three-speed switch on the base as well. Coupled with the trigger, there’s are a lot more speed options now.
I use mine every day. On my 3rd one. On each and every one, the trigger has failed, within 2 years. The warranty is worthless. I tried multiple venues, none got me anywhere.
this is my only tool that does not work all the time. out of around 30 plus dewalt tools. it cuts out on my while im using it all the time. gets very annoying . but when it works i love it.

I have to lower the volume my girlfriend thought I found something of hers LOL I actually have the Milwaukee M18 and I like how easy it is to change the blades and how smooth the oscillator feels in your hand I'm just waiting to see the difference between the Milwaukee M18 oscillator and their new M18 brushless fuel to see if I purchased a new one because I really had the Finn oscillator and after a while the folding handle would jump around and wasn't as smooth plus you had to deal with the cord which was nice because they gave you extremely long cord there comes down to what batteries you own the most of 👊👍🇺🇸
Lol. Love the Spanish bro. You're a good man, Charlie Brown.
hands down my favorite tool and most used tool I have
I've got a bunch of these oscillating tools. Have the Rockwell corded, Bosch 12 volt and a DeWalt 355. FREAKIN love my DeWalt. Had it about a year and a half, still one of my go-to tools when I just need to hack something off or even a quick sanding. Love your reviews!!

The newest models have speeds 123 setting but I loved my old model and this new one as well greatest tool for the trickiest scenarios

It’s a beast. I do flooring and I abused it. The Milwaukee 18v burnt during first job
Milwaukees are powerful but their reliability is crap. They always breaking

@@ToolReviewZone Thanks a lot for your video. I have a Titan that blew the board and hadn't had much use. A case of you get what you paid for?
@bobmason1361 I've never actually used titan, but yeah... that may be the case brother.
Did you try to change the speed on the bottom of the tool, then lock the switch? would answer your problem of locking at lower speed??
The DSC356 has the 3 speed option. Just ordered from CPO Outlets. $120 shipped with w/tax. Comes with Battery and changer.
How's the battery life on this tool? Meaning would you get an hour out of life battery with 20 minutes of continuous use with couple of minute breaks. I tried the Milwaukee fuel m12 and 2.0 just lasts less than 12 minutes. Returned it and got the corded Dewalt.
The new one from DeWalt has a slide button at the base. Perhaps that is a speed setting that can be locked.
You are correct, I have the newer "356" model and it does indeed have 3 seperate speed settings, as well as maintaining the variable speed trigger!
Catching up on the videos. I love the Dewalt oscillating tool. Blade changes are very easy. This tool is one of my best Dewalt tool
The new one which i just bought has 3 speed on it, and also a way to use any blade on it. I cant wait to use it.
looking at this tool and it comes with tool, charger, and 1 battery , but its a small 1.3 mah. do you know about how long run time might be? using it for basic things.

Just picked up the atomic for my son for father's day
Thanks, best review and I went out and bought the Dewalt oscillating multi tool, DCS354 because of your reviews. good video - can you cut gypsum plaster wall panel with these tools i.e. to make socket holes in the panel?
Great review! I may just get me one later on down the line.
Thanks Ted!!!
I have one and although I like the blade release I find that it is is almost beyond my finger grip/strenght to use. Is there an adjustment method?

I purchased two 20v oscillating tools. Can't set sanding assembly to go on . Why
I love my DeWalt oscillating tool use it all the time. Did you know that the trigger pivots about the centre so you can use the top end too and lock it that way as well?
What about the sanding assembly ? Won't go on my 20v
You posted the original video, I almost fell lost. Lol just kidding. I have been thinking of getting one.
Used a neighbour's recently. Can't wait to get one but Scewfix has none in stock anywhere locally ( approx 80 mile radius ) So fkn frustrating.
Why won't the sanding assembly go on my 20v ??
I have a Milwaukee tool like that but the battery pops out because of the vibration
It looks the power is weak. Do they make one with a cord maybe is more powerful ?
Great video as always👍🏻👍🏻
I had a Bosch corded and I just bought this, but the DCS356 version and it’s amazing. I wish I had waited though because Milwaukee is coming out with a new M12 oscillating tool.
Dewalt-Milwaukee-Makita, only the best of the best!
the Milwaukee has a thumb screw, NAH ! NAH ! not the same!. Dewalt really killed it with this version of the quick release.
I have bought this when I did not have many tools but now have better options for everything I thought i could use it for. And the blades for multitools are either crap or heavily overpriced. Yeah, the multi tool has its uses, but in reality, for the tests here, the reciprocating saw is far better. The best tool for the job is key.
I got the dewalt 356 version with 3 speeds so much better than the 355
I got it, I love it 😎
Had one of these lasted 6 months. In the bin it went and went milwaukee

Great review on ergonomics, explanation, and entertainment! BUT you should include some nail cutting and wood with nails driven into it cutting clips. i have the 3 speed. it stopped working after 2 years. I didnt even use that much!

Gotta try this with my power tooth brush! Gorilla tape outta take care of that! Lol
It better come in Teal too...
Having to hold the trigger for power is a no no for me. Milwaukee are my go to tools for everyday use.

I have to lower the volume my girlfriend thought I found something of hers LOL I actually have the Milwaukee M18 and I like how easy it is to change the blades and how smooth the oscillator feels in your hand I'm just waiting to see the difference between the Milwaukee M18 oscillator and their new M18 brushless fuel to see if I purchased a new one because I really had the Finn oscillator and after a while the folding handle would jump around and wasn't as smooth plus you had to deal with the cord which was nice because they gave you extremely long cord there comes down to what batteries you own the most of 👊👍🇺🇸
The tool you used is different then the one in the thumbnail
there are 3 versions

Brushless tools are shit! You have to replace the battery terminal, trigger and motor, sold as one unit. There throw away tools now.
Yikes that thing is like a screaming eagle through the Washington memorial... im a fan of quieter tools and that baby is screaming
Women like these tools but they don't make a dil.......do blade for it yet.
Thank you for the reassurance. I just bought one and am having a little buyers remorse. Heh
Too loud
bad model, poor ergonomics, dangerous controls, bad sawing.
