I lost my wife of 40 yrs two months ago, but i feel at 69 I need to move on and sell the house, there are too many memories everywhere and sorting through my wifes clothing hurts with every piece of clothing i remember her wearing. Even makeup and perfumes when i dispose of them I feel i am throwing my wife out. Every step hurts but needs to be done for my future sanity. My wife wanted me to be happy again in the future after she was gone, so hopefully i can fulfill her wishes for me.

Hi Steve .. thanks for sharing how you are coping with the loss of your wife .. it’s commendable that you’re honouring her wishes and you’re doing what feels right for you. Many people describe what you have said .. that it’s like giving her away when you’re sifting through her things.. you may want to consider keeping some things like perfume or special items that you may be thankful for later.. sometimes people put stuff in a box to put away. It’s just important not to do things that you may later feel differently about .. we’re all on our own journey of grief however it’s often advised not to make major decisions in the first year or so but you’ll know best. Good support will help you to work through your emotions too. Sending love 💕 and hugs as you courageously go forward x
