Got this Gent a few months ago and the best way I can describe is its one of the few things in life that is exactly like you expect it to would be. No hype just substance. Ive always wanted a Country Gentleman and now I have one and its just awesome no disappointments at all. This ones all steak and sizzle.
Hi Brian, you have to be one of the best guitarist that I have ever heard. You could just about play anything. You never cease to amaze me.Thanks Michael Newell from Niagara Falls, Ontario
I tried this guitar in a vintage guitars store in Madrid and it was incredible. The moment you put your hands on it it feels great and the sound was awesome.
@@chrisst8922 Hey uninformed person! George Harrison had and used at least 4 Gretsch guitars on the Beatles first half dozen albums. He loved them very much and can be seen playing them in countless photos both in concert and in the studio. Those guitars are the reason for the 'Beatle' sound. He and John both had Strats too...but only used them in the studio for certain songs. Never used them in concert. You need to study up a bit!
skipp dill not really, it's actually easy. Models starting with G2 are streamliners, G5 is electromatic, G6 is Japan models/ the few USA models or just overall higher end. The rest of the numbers are for their "families". G6120 is the Chet Atkins hollow body, 6122 is the country gentleman. 6134 is a penguin and 6136 is a falcon. The numbers are generally close to their closest sister guitar I've noticed. The the letters are for different things. DS- dynasonic, DC- double cutaway, T- tremolo and so on. Things like BK, CG and SL are just for Black, Cadillac green, silver, etc.
Looks like a fun guitar, but it would be nice to hear the sound changes from all the different settings. Other than that, we're just watching a guy playing guitar.
My Dad wanted either a Gretsch White Falcon or the Country Gentleman. Tooo expensive! So he bought the 6189 Streamliner 1956 Bamboo Yellow / Copper Mist, in 1956 new for $350 Even then that was a lot of money.
My 750 dollar electromagnetic loves distortion, gotta find the right ones with a Vox and gretsch, finnicky. Angry Charlie and a sweet honey deluxe, fun. I want to hear someone rock this too, enough nice playing
Before The Beatles, who ever heard of Gretsch? No one. George Harrison put Gretsch on the map. That guitar with the Vox amps, in the hands of George Harrison, was directly responsible for that great Beatle sound.
"It's small". Really? It's huge! Not mentioned in this review: 1. Bridge tends to slide around if bending strings. 2. Neck access is terrible after 15th fret as neck to body joint is huge. 3. Terrible feedback at any decent stage volume. I owned one but hated it. Sold it.
Why do companies insist on using D'Addario strings ? They are high tension and every guitar I ever bought, played and sounded ten times better when they are changed for Ernie's or something similar.
What was the purpose of this video? He barely talked about the guitar at all. He could have at least demonstrated the different sounds of the pickup positions. And what do the dampeners actually do, and backpad? What the heck is that? So many unanswered questions.
Although I admire this guitar I never liked the 'Gretsch' thumbnail inlay's (just for the looks) especially because they are on only one side of the neck. And I think those felt silencers/mutes on the switch and the tailpiece, those fluorescent colours are not fitting to this beautifull guitar. So I am only talking about the outer appearance. Not criticising their functionality.
Nesmith played several Gretsch models I think he even had a 12 string something or that could have been a Gibson can't remember I always liked the Gretsch bass that Tork played.

John Squire made me want one so bad
Hate to be that guy, But me too! Finally someone mentioned him😂
@@dekgebfoot4085 Me too.
Me too. When ever I see this model I picture john playing waterfall live
The early Roses tone is legendary
Same here ✊
I've recently purchased one as well. It is amazing!!!!
Yes, george Harrison of the Beatles, was a Gretsch-fan!
No he wasn't, eventually. He said they'd have been really good if they'd had Fenders.
Lou Reed of The Velvet Underground used one too.
I read that Harrison hated his Gretsch. He replaced it with a Casino and never looked back.
@@draxlerchronicles5851 Realy? I can remember, George says, his Gretsch Duo jet, was his realy Guitar! It wos on Cold Nine Album on Cover!

That's some serious playing man.
Sounds magical
Beautiful guitar
Worth every penny
You have to wonder how Lou Reed got such stunning feedback from it during his days with the Velvets if it resists feedback.
RedNightDragon1,I simply laid the headstock of any of my solid bodies on the amp!Getting feedback is a super easy thing!
Actually it is very prone to feedback. And not particularly controllable feedback in my experience.
Ive got a country gent, Love it. Bought it mostly cos of george harrison but its certainly a beauty of a guitar.
He says it's a small guitar; I'd hate to see a big one 😉
Well the Gretsch Tennesse Rose is bigger and looks a bit comical in my opinion
On Greg Kosch it looks miniscule. But yes, us normal humans are in for an awakening
@@counterfeit1148 wait until you see a falcon... theyre massive
That's the weird thing, it actually feels small to play. I just played one and I was surprised at how comfortable it is.
This is top shelf. !
Nice playing.
Thank you. Enjoyed it.
I was wondering what the difference between the standard Country Gentleman and the Golden Era Edition is?
Maravillosa ❣️
When ever I see this guitar I can visoin john squire playing waterfall live.
1:35 is the best bc it's my favorite song from the Beatles which is If I fell
The naming convention Gretsch uses is ridiculous, too many numbers to distinguish the different models

Incredible playing.
Play Waterfall on it!!
"it's small......"
Um what lol?
Its a pitty they didn’t put the serial on the frontplate on the headstock wich sais “country gentleman” like the pre ‘65’s used to be.
Long live the the 6122

That was a mouthful. Who named that?
I want to hear what it would sound like through a mesa boogie with a big muff...
Big Muffs are for amateurs. I want to hear it through an authentic, vintage Metal Zone. lml
My 750 dollar electromagnetic loves distortion, gotta find the right ones with a Vox and gretsch, finnicky. Angry Charlie and a sweet honey deluxe, fun. I want to hear someone rock this too, enough nice playing
Listen to Two Gallants for an idea.
Yeah, just cut through the natural sound of a Gretsch and muffle it with shit loads of distortion, right....
That's a guitar right there.
Johnny Thunders played it a few times but not often.
Yes he played it at the irving plaza and in Sweden live. That was a mad gig. Fresh fish

What is that cool piece that starts at around 1:50?
@@halfehalfa2323 Thanks a lot!
I love it yeh yeh yeh
You didn’t demonstrate how the mutes work, or even what they do.
Doc Tari 1:36
Lou Reed also played this!
Nice naming :)
Super.👍💥
Somebody know the name of the song of minute 1:14 please?
Till there was you-the Beatles
Me too!
It's also I think The only Electric Elvis played on stage.
What about the 68 comeback special
1:48 what‘s the title of this evergreen?
what is the leather thing on the back for? us there wood behind it?
It covers a hole that provides access to the electronics and the mute mechanics.
drug storage space
Craig David and this whole time I thought it was for sandwiches! silly me
forgot to mention the prosthetic vagina behind it, a real woman killer. praise be to gretsch
Oliver Aguilar mini sandwich cooler
1:11 what music? pls
It sounds very familiar
+Henrique Espindola standard 1950's progression. notable on songs like "angel baby" by rosie and the originals
Steven M thanks!
I also wanted to find out what song it was. It sounded similar to “earth angel” but not really sure. Sounds beautiful tho.
I think it's called freight train.

What is that second song he plays
If any knows plz give the link
Can someone explain what a mute is ? And why there are two red joysticks on the front of this guitar and a bass drum in the back ??
Well if anyone else is interested I found out what the mute system is, ruclips.net/video/wlPEVaz--fY/видео.html
The name explains itself
xD
What's the purpose that round at the back?
What do the mutes do?
Mute
ListenToBigFace Haha, mute what, though?
The strings! so you don't have to do it with your hands!
Ooooooooooh, that's cool! Thanks :)
Mute
Didn't Elvis this guitar on stage as well?
Nice naming.
味のあるギター!
Only problem is, it doesn't SOUND like the '62.
Another pithy model name from Gretsch :D
Why do companies insist on using D'Addario strings ? They are high tension and every guitar I ever bought, played and sounded ten times better when they are changed for Ernie's or something similar.
What are the little red things with the knobs on them?
string mutes
c notes by the dozen to buy
This is the same as mine with same ole high E string not ringing clear.
Freight Train!
how about some 'Lessons' dude?

Gretsch White Falcon but I don't remember a Country Gent.
Fender Stats are boring. I hate them. They are the Volkswagen of guitars. The Gretsch is like the Ferrari of guitars.
Too much reverb.....
...is just a matter of taste.
Not an intelligent review. The guitar has a lot of features that include the mutes and tone switch. Those things aren't explained.
