A great detail in this movie is that at the masquerade ball, Bruce and Selina are the only people without masks, because Bruce and Selina are their masks.
Nice!
The "Bruce wayne! Why are you dressed like batman?? " line was a riff on the George Reeves tv superman tv series line where superman sitting at Clark Kent's desk, and Perry white comes in, sees him and says "clark, why are you dressed like superman??"
I was digging that.
Also the song, 'Face to Face' playing in the background.
Beat me to this comment
I was thinking just that when i noticed this post.
“Do we have to start fighting?” Is both a very cute and sad line. They are inevitably going to fight, but does it have to be right now, they were enjoying the moment.
Everybody always points out how it's Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee Herman) playing the part of Penguin's father. However, most people usually don't catch the fact that the mother was also the woman who played Simone, from Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.
One could imagine that, after Pee-Wee gained fame and fortune from the movie of his story, he dumped Dottie for Simone, and they had "The Penguin." :D
No way I never realized that! Awesome
Also, Paul Reubens played The Penguin's father in the show Gotham.
Also worth noting that this was Reubens first film credit since his Theater "scandal". Originally it was planned for Cobblepot Sr. to be played by Burgess Meredith, who was Penguin in the 60's show. Meredith became ill so wasn't able to do the scene, so Burton reached out to Reubens, in part to help him get his foot back in the industry's door.
"Heard any good jokes lately?"
I couldn't imagine dumping Dottie. Even if I was a loner, a rebel.
George commenting about Bruce Wayne being thirsty while he himself was obviously thirsty 😂😂😂
Projecting? :D
"She's like a zombie..."
Specifically, a revenant (an undead fueled by revenge). I love revenant Catwoman and sewer monster Penguin. Making them into gothic horror monsters is so brilliant and such fantastic takes on the characters.
Technically "revenant" comes from the same word as "return", so it has nothing to do with revenge but rather just coming back from the dead. But it's okay...I've been (mis)using the word as the same too cuz it's just a more interesting concept.
Wouldn't she become dead again after she got her revenge? We see that the end she survived
@@JasonKreider-eq8kp I like to think that having only one life left after killing Shrek broke her 'curse'. So now she's mortal again and still out there.
The funniest part is at the end where he chooses the wrong umbrella to kill Batman with and says, "Shit. I picked a cute one."
George's prediction of Selina falling into a vat of cats wasn't too far off the mark.
Vat of pussy.
Damn. Gotta be careful where you fall.
Michelle Pfeiffer's acting in this film generally gets the most praise from audiences & critics alike, but I'm glad that you guys complimented Danny DeVIto's performance as well. I think he gets overlooked due to how off-putting his role is. Be sure to listen to the soundtrack by Danny Elfman. His themes for the three main characters are very well done.
90s Batman theme is amazing!
Nothing to do with the plastic suit I'm sure...
DeVito's Penguin carries this film, imo. Complex villain with a tragic backstory. The best live action comic book movie villain, imo.
@@riveraharper8166 It's actually reworked from '89.
@@drlee2 Real talk, Michelle saved this movie. Her transcendent Catwoman is why this film remains a must watch. Ain't nobody got time for the grotesqueries of DeVito's Penguin.
As a young man in the 90's this movie was... influencing.
True, that whole kneeling on him and licking his face thing...very influencing
As a woman, and a bisexual one... Same
Influential*
And still as a much older man now
Not as influencing as Jessica Rabbit. But yes.
Two ways to read the Catwoman origin. First, she hits like 5 awnings on the way down, which theoretically could have slowed her descent enough where she survived and she just went nuts from the almost murdered/tired of being a doormat thing (or a head injury). Or second, the spirits of the cats resurrected her and now she literally has 9 lives. Works either way for me.
But I love how, when she gets back to the apartment, she literally has cat-like traits. Knocking crap off of tables and not caring, shredding toys into nothing, etc.
Exactly this. I always thought it was the first, but she thought the second. She just went crazy and believed the spirits of the cats revived her/turned her part cat/imbued her with the spirits of the cats/whatever, lmao.
I pretty much commented the same thing just a few seconds ago
For what's worth, that awful Catwoman flick kinda made canon that there was a supernatural thing going on.
@@yrenekurtz5268 well her original original is that she's just a thief/cat burglar thust the name Cat Woman
So Burton's Penguin is basically nothing like the comics Penguin. In the comics, Oswald Cobblepot does come from an affluent Gotham family, so he's much less of a horrible sewer goblin, and more of a mob boss. He comes to power by filling the vaccuum left after Batman successfully dissolves the original mobs of Gotham in his first year. He's had quirkier gimmicks in his history, usually involving penguin-themed vehicles or tech, as well as an arsenal of umbrella weapons, and has even eaten a raw fish or two. Modern Penguin doesn't have as many silly quirks, but is more of a serious gangster, using his vast wealth and army of goons to run Gotham's underworld from his base of operations, a floating casino named The Iceberg Lounge.
He's also very intelligent. Smart enough to know that if he's useful to Batman in regards to taking down worse criminals, then he can live a very comfortable life
Yeah, he's not very comic accurate, but I still really enjoy this version.
Well to be honest the mob boss is a new thing in comics, he used to be gentleman criminal, kind of thing.
And at one point, they turned him British for some reason.
And at one point, they turned him British for some reason.
I think maybe Patton Oswalt said "Somehow Tim Burton tricked WB into letting him turn Batman Returns into a German Expressionist Horror film from the 1920s".
For me I always thought it was more he tricked them into letting him make something of a BDSM fetish movie 😅 the very overt sexuality that runs through out this whole film. No wonder McDonalds hated it
@@danmann861 they probably also hated the "Bat-muder"... like when he torches guys with the batmobile engine or straight up explodes henchman.
Christopher Walken's character Max Schreck is the name of the original actor that played Nosferatu. The classic 1922 German horror movie
@@danmann861 The studio decided they no longer wanted him making Batman movies after this.
@@treetopjones737 it wasn't so much as studio as it was the sponsors. The sponsors were putting pressure on WB because of how dark Returns turned out to be.
I always interpret Selina "becoming" Catwoman as she survived the fall because the awnings broke her fall, but she still suffered severe trauma and brain injury which all made her snap, and less of a "resurrection by magic cat breath" because could you imagine how stupid that would be if a Catwoman movie actually did that?😐
Could you imagine?? 😸
Fortunately no one ever made a movie. Like, who would they cast? Halle Berry? As if
I mean, the DC universe got all kind of magic, mystical stuff and even gods, so it's not like it would be taken out of nowhere.
@@miriamweller812yes but Batman has always been pretty grounded in reality despite how silly it was until dark night came out
@@zombieslayer02gjustzombies85 grounded in reality? The guy has shark repellent spray on his toolbelt. How is that reality
The scene where Catwoman whips the mannequins heads off in the Store are genuine. Michelle Pfeiffer spent days/weeks with a whip expert/tuitor to learn how to master the thing. The whole scene was shot in one shot and it was 100% her, no practical/special effects.
Also, Michelle Pfeiffer is the coolest Catwoman ever! She brought a sexy intelligence to a powerful role. Not once did she ever come across as cheesy, campy or a dumb sexpot.
Well she was campy but in a good way!
She was definitely camp! She also really put the Iive bird in her mouth.
I wish more actors these days put even 10% of that level of effort and commitment into their roles
Very true-Ms. Pfeiffer’s Catwoman has yet to be rivaled by another actor.
@@pobstrelfun fact: she almost suffocated in that Catwoman suit
RIP Michael Gough, Pat Hingle, Paul Reubens, and Vincent Schiavelli
Fun fact time:
The scene with Catwoman whipping the heads off mannequins wasn't a stunt woman
they were 100% on wires with dudes yanking the wires to take the heads off though
@@robinhooduk8255There's no evidence that's the case, and no one has ever said that was the case.
@@robertcampbell8070 Yea I've not heard that either, but regardless if that is true it doesn't cheapen the fact that she hit the mark each time. There's video of that and the accompanying crew cheers.
@@robinhooduk8255 No, that would have looked silly. The heads were probably loose, but they fall off the mannequins in natural motion. Another crew member filmed the scene from another angle (you can find it on RUclips) and you can see she simply hit all three successfully, and then the crew burst out in applause!
They were not on wires. She trained for weeks with the whip and became better than the stunt people. Not only did she really whip the heads off, but she did it in ONE TAKE
The regular comic book Catwoman is just a "cat burglar" who was extra fond of cats and of course had a costume with ears and mask. The more "campy" eras of the comic, and especially the old '60s TV show, went all-in on her being a cat-themed villain, purring while she talked, cat-themed car, etc. But mostly she's an extra-acrobatic cat burgler/anti-hero, and sometimes not even a villain.
My head canon, the cats gave Seleena a small bit of one of their souls/lives.
Likewise
uh, I like that one 😼
Oh man, wonder if someone counted the cats, what if there are nine and each give one of their lives?
@@gamerbear84 no there are more. She also doesn’t fall through 9 marquies. Both missed chances I always thought
There are old superstitions about cats being able to transfer/give/take lives through breath. I always assumed that the cat licking her mouth at the start was the one that gave her a life.
Saw it as a 12-Year-old-Boy in the Cinema. It was a life-changing Experience. Batman-Fan since and forever. Tim Burton's Masterpiece and Michelle Pfeiffer and Danny deVito gave Performances for the Ages. Especialy Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman will be unmatched forever.
Lol Same age, 12, and also saw it in the cinema. Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman was very much an awakening for me. These days I live and work in the BDSM/Fetish world 😆
Michelle is also amazing in Stardust. Love her in that.
Amen!
To this day this is still my favorite live action Batman movie of all time. It's the perfect balance of being serious but also not being afraid to be over the top at times. Lastly no other film brought the gothic nature of Batman's world to life the way Tim Burton did with his 2 movies
My favorite part of this movie is Max Shreck's son Chip Shreck, clearly doing his best Christopher Walken impression
Right in Christopher Walken's face!
@@fynnthefox9078I’d be surprised if Walken would get irked by that, but I don’t know the guy personally. He’s always seemed like he knows who he is and what the world thinks of him and is fine with it. He’d probably give the kid pointers to make his impression better. 😊
@@karlmortoniv2951 There was just a Super Bowl ad with a host of people doing Walken impressions for Christopher Walken, and he laughed it off with good humor. He's the original, and he knows it. :)
The most unbelievable part of this film is that a populist politician was outed for doing something terrible and his supporters turned on him instead of just excusing it and continuing to support him.
You have a point there.
It was still believable in the 90s.
@promontorium lol no they didn't
8:04 It's so cool how the shadows turn into something like the mask from Julie Newmar's/Eartha Kitt's Catwoman.
Oh, and the cats (led by her own Miss Kitty) are meant to keep her warm and breathe into her mouth, as per the shooting script. One of them bites her fingers to wake her up, because she was knocked unconscious from the fall.
The cat suit would basically vacuum seal itself to Michele Pfeifer's body. She couldn't wear it too long without suffocating. George, nice Love Sandwich reference.
Michelle Pfeiffer actually put a real bird in her mouth for that scene… amazing… You guys didn’t say anything in that scene so I had to comment as it’s one of those moments that is unforgettable! Spectacular!

I feel like this movie has what might be the best on-screen representation of the Bruce(Batman)/Selina(Catwoman) relationship. That moment at the masquerade ball was a tantalizing taste of what could have been.
Gotham is notorious for being an unsafe crime ridden place in the comics, so yeah. People in-universe very much comment on it. The intractable crime of Gotham is pretty central to Batman’s story, and that of many other characters.
"It's not like you can just kill me." "Actually, it's a lot like that."
This was used in Overkill's song Battle.
The first one was Tim Burton on a leash held by the studio, but since it money they let him do whatever he wanted in this one, so yeah, the penguin and catwoman are nothing like this in the comics, origins wise that is. Despite all that, I still think this one is a lot better.
I had already fallen in love with Michelle when I saw her in Ladyhawke. But yes, her performance in this film did wonderful things for me as well. 😊
Still my favorite Batman movie. DeVito’s Penguin completely changed the way the character was & is written. Pfeiffer’s Catwoman, to me, is still the definitive version. Gothic, gruesome, and funny.
She delivered an Oscar worthy performance.
Michele Pfeiffer was in another movie with Al Pacino called Frankie and Johnny. They both play the complete opposite of their characters in Scarface. Worth a watch.
That’s what’s great about comic book movies, filmmakers can approach them with different interpretations. Like doing Shakespeare
And I wish more comic book movies were more stylized like this rather than just being so realistic.
Yessss! I totally agree! Glad to hear someone has the same opinion. I really love the whole “fairy tale” style Tim Burton did.
I've said it before, and I'm going to say it again, the next Batman things you two should definitely watch are Batman Mask of the Phantasm and Batman The Animated Series. Both feature Kevin Conroy as my favorite Batman and Mark Hamill as my favorite Joker. The movie and the series are two of the best Batman media to ever come out. Both pull you into the tough choices Batman has to make, and both are intense, adventurous, and dripping in that brooding gloom that people love about Batman. Batman Mask of the Phantasm and Batman the Animated Series are so much worth watching.
"I didn't count on being happy."
Mask of the Phantasm is amazing. Under The Red Hood is worth checking out, as well.
SubZero & Mystery Of The Batwoman too
25:38, correction those are a mix of actual live penguins with mechanical ones created by the master himself Stan Winston.
I think the idea was that the cats biting her stimulated her nervous system so that her body didn't shut down.
IDK Unless it's in the comics, I just found that "transformation" idea kinda weird.
Yep...It basically prevented her or stopped her from going into shock. It saved her life.
@@brianvalencia7717 In the comics none of her origins that I'm aware of have anything to do with cats other than the fact that she likes cats.
@@brianvalencia7717 Oh yeah, none of this is comic book lore. Tim Burton and his scriptwriter cooked all this up. Catwoman traditionally is just a sexy jewel thief.
Similarly, Penguin is usually not some kind of man-monster, but simply a fat mob boss who resembles a penguin and has a thing for umbrellas.
As silly as the old Adam West Batman TV series was, its conception of the two villains was closer to the original comic book idea. You have to see Burgess Meredith waddling around with his top hat and monocle going MWACK MWACK MWACK.
Sounds plausible to me.
My favorite Batman film of all time
"Why is he always oooozzzing?!!??!?" That's hysterical.
I had a friend who was an FX artist that worked on this film. She was part of the team that built the rocket backpacks for the penguins. She was also had the job of putting them on the penguins. One of the things she figured out was that the harnesses that fit the big Emperor penguin puppets would also fit her, leading to the FX crew to have crew T-shirts made, Batman 2; Penguins in Bondage.
The creature that Cat Woman in this movie is, would be considered a revenant in the Monster Manual.
The letter bringing monkey attacked Danny Devitos privates (True story by Devito himself) he laughed and said something long the line "thank god for all the leyers of the costume😅"😂(It has been a while when I saw that interwiev)
Fun Fact. Danny Devito and Arnold Schwarzenneger were both in Twins together and are also Batman movie villains.
Penguin and Mr. Freeze!
Also Penguins make up is almost like Beetlejuices.
You list Twins but excluse Junior? Shame on you! lol
Also, DeVito and Jack Nicholson were the 2 Burton film villains and also good friends in real life and did several films together.
Valid point.
I saw this in the theater when it came out and they were giving out pins to everyone, one of which was a yellow duck. Imagine our confusion waiting to find out what it was for. XD
Fun fact that makes sense once you know: In one of the writer's earlier drafts, Shreck was discovered to be the Penguin's older brother, the "Golden Boy" of the Cobblepot Family, whereas the Penguin was the deformed outsider. Shreck was supposedly ashamed of his father, after he threw his baby brother into the sewer, and he emancipated himself from the Cobblepot Family as soon as he came of age. This may have resulted in him being cut off from his family fortune, thus forced to make his own as mentioned above. Knowing that, makes the whole "First born son" thing all the heavier.
Simone's deadpan "leave a like, or something" gets me every time, love it
The Catwoman origin is new to the movie although if you watched the Catwoman movie you’ve seen the result of WB executives insisting that cat resurrection is an essential part of her story.
It could be done well, being kept ambiguous like it was here.
Swans, cats - you’ve been on a “the natural result of suppressed female rage” journey lately. Next stop is clearly Promising Young Woman
I'm a Keaton/90s Batman Animated Series guy. Somewhere along the line, watching Keaton's Batman horrified that his Batmobile is destroying cars and property on the roads unintentionally became standard operating procedure in the Bale Bat-tank version b/c they were simply in his way and the "zomg that was total awesomeness bruh" factor.
Full disclosure: But i can't really fault it. I'm not sure when Batman started using massive bombs to take down big guys. Watching the Batmobile pop mini-guns and seeing Batman fire guns and rockets at the Joker in the first one was probably the start of the downward spiral. I just keep telling myself, "Alternate universe." It's the only excuse that keeps fans sane watching the difference between the comics, movies, cartoons, etc. Like my father said, "My Batman isn't your Batman." Love the channel!
The penguin cuddled up to the mechanical penguin gives me serious grape kun vibes and suddenly im not ok anymore.
I watched this in the cinema when I was 12.... yup...
Also, Batman didn't have security on the Bat mobile because he never thought people would be in a position to do what Penguin did. Overconfidence is something that this Batman suffers from a lot.
I don't think Selina has "powers" as such, she's just a human who went nuts after barely surviving an attemped murder by her boss.
Great movie, great reaction! Don't bother with the others though, this is the shark jump.
I feel like it's a bunch of myths about animal spirits possessing people kinda cobbled together to insinuate that her soul was possessed by the cats or changed into a cat's soul which she already had a high affinity to cats in the first place so they gave her their "power".
It's a similar underlining motive or concept to The Crow.
But then again the fall causing some brain trauma and changing her personality is not unheard of either and is known to cause some rather extreme behavior changes immediately or shortly afterward sometimes even permanently after happening.
Since it's a movie they may have half thrown in a fugue state as well which is normally when a person loses most of their memory temporarily and create a random new identity from whatever information is left. All of their normal background history could be wrong in this state. House, street, age, gender, career, trips and even state they live in could be wrong.
Nowadays, MP would've won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Sublime. If you want more Michelle watch her run around NYC with George Clooney in One Fine Day (1996).
The best Catwoman performance of all time ,,,,, that scene where she "flic-flacs" towards the camera and says "" Meow"" just before the explosion , with that bitter look on her face is outstanding amazing , one of the most memorable moments in the Batman film repertoire ....and in cinema in general .....
When this movie came out, it had mixed reviews from various corners. I saw it the second weekend of its release. But, every single friend of mine had one thing in common in their review.... Michelle Pfeiffer was HOT. 😂
The whipping scene with the mannequins was Pfeiffer herself and she did it in the first take. There is a making off video of the shooting and everybody erupts in cheering because of how amazing that first take was.
Ever since 1989, I haven't missed one Batman film in the theater. I remember this being a very fun time at the movies. I was about 10 years old. I remember getting one of the happy meals before McDonald's pulled them because of all the whimpy kids and even whimpier parents who couldn't handle it.
Love when Simone told George to "Calm the f&*k down.". I'm sure many of use were thinking the same thing. 😆

“I Miss The Days When One's Biggest Concern Was Exploding Wind-Up Penguins.”

In the 2004 Catwoman movie they get more in detail on what happened to Selena. Creatures like cats or crows are able to bring souls back from the underworld. If you remember in the Brendan Fraser mummy movie the mummy was afraid of cats because they were the guardians of the underworld.
Dude, you know the rules, we don't mention 2004 Catwoman.
That wasn't even Selena Kyle 😂
You actually saw Catwoman? 😂
It's a well known fact that cats have supernatural powers. Also movie suggestion: Streets of Fire
Danny DeVito's acting, and makeup by legends Stan Winston, Ronnie Specter, and Ve Neill (who was also responsible for Burton's Edward Scissorhands), make this Penguin so spectacular. Funny sometimes, disgusting sometimes, and actually extremely scary when he needed to be.
[edit, after 28:30] If this were to have been a Batman / Catwoman only film, the plot would need to be very different. The way this was set up, Catwoman's main reason for being anti-Batman is because of the entanglement of the Penguin. Her moral ambiguity pulled her between villain and anti-hero. As George very astutely observed from the poster: Catwoman sits between Batman and Penguin. It was that pull in either direction that made her story rather compelling. Without that element (that I don't feel that Schreck alone would have filled; his villain's role was not to the same level as Penguin. Batman needs more colorful adversaries) the moral ambiguity would not have had the same impact. IMHO. I agree that I would have liked to have seen more of Selina's story. But as it played out, I feel it worked as it should have done. She had a vendetta against Max, and fulfilled it. Too much more would have complicated things.
Tim Burton's direction for this film made it just as good as the first one. Maybe even a little more over the top, but it still worked. He declined to participate in a third, and further installments in this franchise were famously never nearly as good. Different actors in the Bat-suit, different directors at the helm, theoretically all still in the same universe and continuity, but they went far afield after this. Only loyal old Alfred (Michael Gough) stuck around.
From what I recall, the dog thing in ww2 was stopped pretty much straight after the initial phase of training....
They trained them with their own tanks, when they were put in the field with explosives, they ran to the tanks they were familiar with 😂😂
Believe it or not, it was the lady with the poodle that got my attention as a kid in the theater. Something was so ghostly but sexy about her that I had an absolute crush on her when I was 12.
I think I still have a crush, lol!
She's the best.
YESSS. This is my favourite Batman movie to this day. Burton did an incredible job. Penguin is one of DeVito's best character roles, and the gothic energy of this film is so accurate to the comics at the time that it was really like seeing a Batman story on screen. Michelle did an unbelievably great job at Selina, and the music in this film is superb-- A great soundtrack by Danny Elfman. 10/10
Soundtrack is songs, you're talking about score.
28:10 Always love that ending seeing Catwoman look up at the Bat-signal! Plus the iconic music!
Definitely my favorite older Batman movies!
Pfeiffer actually whipping the heads off of the mannequins to the crew's amazement is still so impressive.
As iconic and cool as the shot is of the bat-signal shining through Bruce Wayne's office on him, it does beg the question of whether or not he covers those light-signals when he has guests over. I mean, the first movie establishes that he hosts big galas for Gotham's elite, and in this movie he invites Selina Kyle over for an evening together. If the Commissioner lights the signal, and those things activate while company is over, Bruce has hella explaining to do lol.
The tazer she took from the clown was still on her. So every time the cats were touching her or moving her slightly they were activating the tazer which was shocking her back to life. She had the same tazer when she took out Max Shrek.
I have not seen your reaction yet.. in a couple of minutes.. I just want to say that Batman Returns imo is the most Tim Burton movie of all his movies.
"Eat floor" is my favorite line in this movie hahaha
"It's gonna be a hot time, in the cold town tonight" was also sd by The Joker in the first movie
Very close. He technically says "old town" (referencing an old song), while Selena does indeed say "cold town." It was certainly a reference/callback, regardless.
"I can smell his breath".. I dont remember seeing him for the first time (I was a child) but the one time I do remember feeling like that was with Heath's Joker
I just randomly watched the first Batman reaction earlier today and now this shows up, nice.
One of the things I've seen/heard is the idea that the masked vigilante/superhero (I believe it typically is specifically Batman) actually CAUSES the rise of crime and supervillains because of their presence. The more outlandish and powerful the hero, the more outlandish and powerful the villain(s).
One of my favorite Batman: The Animated Series episodes deals with this. Even without the Caped Crusader's interference, most of his Rogues Gallery would still be criminals.
I’m straight and I can say that Michelle Pfieffer’s Catwoman awoke things in many of us! She also looked gorgeous in the masquerade scene.
And the Batman movies only get sillier from here!
So glad George noticed the scene with Selina and Bruce dancing like Nolan did in TDKR ..now i dont have to lol
An obscure movie worth checking out that has a funny tie-in to this is Ingrid Goes West with Aubrey Plaza
Your not the only one that loves this Cat Woman. Hubba Hubba!!!
Took me this long to figure out Esther Cobblepot voiced all the female orcs in Skyrim.
.....and yes, Catwoman awakened me so much as a child, I bought the outfit when I was old enough.
The original Syren latex version was not well cared for over the years, but suitable replicas are available.
You're right about DeVito having fun with the Penguin. Crew and cast have stated that once he was in full Penguin make up he stayed in character until the make up was removed.
I remember this and T2 being the first movies I was actively hyped for months before they came out. They both just looked so cool. This is still hands down my favourite Batman movie. An interesting thing to remember about Michael Keaton playing Batman, he was the first actor to have distinct voices for both Bruce Wayne and Batman. It seems pretty normal now but that wasn't the case before he took on the role and it was his idea to have it that way.
Alfred tells Batfleck about the time when only had to battle clockwork penguins.
George i saw this in the theatre when i was 13 and yes it definitely awoken something in me.
1:58 That's Paul Reubens, aka Pee-Wee Herman. At 2:07 that Paul Reubens and Diane Salinger--Diane played the role of "Simone" in _Pee-Wee's Big Adventure_ .
"I have so many confused feelings..." Same, George. Same.
Fun Fact: The Actor who plays Max Schreck's son is Zangief from Street Fighter The Movie with Jean Claude Van Damme. He would later play Leatherface in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and its prequel sequel.
"Quick, change the channel!"
That's my favorite part of Street Fighter. I used to put the tape in the vcr and fast forward to that part so I could laugh 😂 "Quick, change the channel" you know what? I'm going to go watch it now for a laugh 😅
After Actress Sean Young was turned down for the role of Catwoman, she went on the Joan Run version show in catwoman costume in full character. It was bizarre.
As a movie buff who grew up during that time period, I'm so stoked to see you two embracing so many of these films and seeing you appreciate the art that was there. I like that you have gravitated toward some of the actors I respected, I love that you take note of the Director's style and talent, but now I think I have been pleased beyond that. To hear George point out the genius that is Stan Winston, and to be able to list off some of his work, well that shows an appreciation of film on another level.
9:11 This Catwoman origin was created for this movie. Everywhere else, Catwoman is just professional thief who has a conscience and helps people sometimes. And she and Batman have an ongoing passionate but turbulent relationship. But there aren't any supernatural elements to her origin anywhere else.
Recent comics have actually called out how terrible gotham is. It actually inspires people to move into gotham to prove that if they can make it there, they can make it anywhere.
Just like NYC
@@shawnmiller4781came here to say, like London 😂
At least one comic has suggested that Gotham might actually be cursed.
There's 2 theories about Catwoman I've heard over the years since this movie was released in the 90s.
#1 is the one that was going around back when the movie was first released.
1: when she fell she died and the cats swarmed around her giving her one of their lives to bring her bsck to life.
2: 5he awning canopies she hit on thd way down was enough to slow her decent to where it just mearly knocked her unconscious. The cat around her woke her up but due to her hitting her head it caused a split personality with cat traits came out with revenge on her mind for almost "murdered".
Meow.
Such a great sequel to one of my all-time favourite superhero movies. The cast is just brilliant and the villains are on point and then some.
I'm sad Burton never got to make a third movie. Especially since the other sequels are quite shite. To say the least.
Michelle Pfeiffer is the best Catwomen.
She whipped the heads off the
mannequins for real, and in one take, There is footage of that scene/moment being filmed and everyone claps for her afterwards.
Interesting fact, Paul Reubens also played the Penguin's father in the TV show Gotham. There he was killed for his money not by the Penguin though.
6:07 George: "...vat of cats"
8:40 George called It!
Something most people don't realize, The Penguin's father seen at the beginning of the movie was played by Pee Wee Herman actor Paul Rubens.
The mother was also Simone in the 1st Pee Wee film
Michelle Pfeiffer's portrayal of Catwoman is my favorite out of any incarnation. Between her latex outfit, her makeup and the completely different tones of voice for the two sides of the same character are so purrfect. (Sorry, but I had to do a cat pun).
Agreed that Catwoman deserved a dedicated storyline and she was supposed to get her own dedicated movie - Catwoman. But it kept getting delayed until Michelle Pfeiffer was off the project along with most everyone else and we got Halle Berry's Catwoman film. I still mourn the Catwoman movie we could have had with Michelle 😭😭😭
