Can I just mention that I love how Benedict moves as Sherlock? He always changes slight differences in his voice, posture, general atmosphere that make all of his characters seem like different people, but it's especially clear with Sherlock. His eyes dart around a lot even if his face is still, he's almost catlike (when he's not drunk), he's quick, he crawls, sniffs, and tests out theories on the crime scene, and it's all clear from just his body language. I also love his little movements, the way he hops around in ASIP, gestures with his hand, all which makes sense since he's a musical person- it adds such dimension and charm.

Yes thank you! Benedict is amazingly good at the tiny nuances of facial expressions and mannerisms in his different characters that it makes his face actually look different. So much so that I hardly know what mannerisms he actually has in real life. That is what you call good acting and he’s one of the best.

Sherlock knows time is of the essence, might just be a life and death matter for the kids (as it later turns out, too) and hence the rude interrogation. He couldn't really afford the old lady's sobs and half sentences right then. But also, he's actually a softie, so there's the little pat on the shoulder and the "I do believe you" right after. Nice little example of why Sherlock tries keeping sentiments at bay, they do interfere with his work and there are almost always lives at stake, which weigh so much more.

Sherlock is this strange mix of emotion and rational, because he knows what to do logically to get the best result (ie saving the children) and yet he still acknowledges the other person's emotions as long as they aren't rude or just horrible people (cough cough Sebastian cough cough Kitty Riley). It also reminds me of him interrogating that little kid in TRF, where he tries to act all comforting before the girl screams at him. It's like he himself doesn't even realize he does it, since he pushes for the "high-functioning sociopath" 24/7, but we all know that's not quite true :).

Like Mycroft being previously chubby as Sherlock implied being shown in flashbacks, the reveal of Redbeard being carried over as a major plot point, and how Henry Knight from The Hounds Of Baskerville's trauma ultimately mirrored Sherlock's, what with them repressing their memories of a human and replacing those humans with a dog instead. I love it when things come full circle and/or carry over into the continuity..
