- In the early hours of July 4, 2023, around 1:40 AM, Patrolman Baran, engaged in bike patrol for the Seaside Heights Police Department, observed a woman indulging in smoking on the boardwalk. Taking prompt action, he approached the woman, later identified as 19-year-old Jessica Szewczyk, informing her of the violation of concerning borough ordinance related to smoking on the boardwalk. In response, Patrolman Baran requested her identification and personal details before escorting her to Franklin Avenue and Ocean Terrace. During this interaction, Jessica provided a misleading date of birth, suggesting she was 23 years old. Patrolman Baran returned to his patrol car to cross-check her information through the system. Simultaneously, another officer remained in conversation with Jessica. The investigation quickly revealed the deception - Jessica had misrepresented her age. Consequently, she was arrested under the charges of hindering herself and providing false information, as outlined in 2C:29-3B(4). Following her arrest, Patrolman Baran conducted a thorough search of Jessica and transported her to the police station for additional processing. According to official records, Jessica was confined to a cell at 2:20 AM, only to be released at 2:58 AM, pending her forthcoming court appearance. On August 5, 2023, Jessica found herself in legal trouble once again. This time, she was apprehended for driving under the influence in West Milford, New Jersey. The incident unfolded as Jessica crashed her vehicle into an embankment, with subsequent Alcotest results revealing a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level of 0.05%. This subsequent arrest further complicated Jessica's legal standing, highlighting a pattern of encounters with the law.

The Seaside Heights Boardwalk burned down to the ground about 10 years ago, in the middle of the day. Two full blocks of boardwalk and businesses were destroyed. Millions of dollars were lost and many lives put in danger. The only way they could stop it was by destroying a large section of it before the flames hit. So, before you call something stupid, maybe educate yourself a little on what happened to cause an ordinance to be made.
Ok so for all the people calling cops pigs... You myst be pretty sad in life to talk crap about the first people who would show up if someone was kicking your ass, stealing your car, driving impaired and risking lives,, kidnapping your kids, etc. i hope you never need them to come save you. if you do tho, i kinda low key hope they knew you were a jerk about them and they decide to not help your ungrateful sad excuses.

They're law enforcement. It's literally their job. If you feel you should be able to smoke anywhere you want, your problem is with the legislators and the other citizens who lobbied to keep certain public areas smoke free.
