Guys, stop lying to yourselves, this is a great tribute to Coraline but this movie would look HORRIBLE in live action! They decided to make it stop motion for a reason (visual possibilities) and it was a GOOD reason!
I AGREE! I really don’t think a live action adaptation would be necessary, the animated one is way more iconic and stylized in a way where I don’t think live action could capture in the right way.
Very tempting idea If they ever wanted to make it into a live action it would certainly be an extremely interesting project. Every day closer to its anniversary ✨ Great clip Laika
"If the whole film was portrayed like this, I would definitely watch it! These actors are superb!" Yes, they're great and they should be hired for a Coraline live-action movie.
They should make a live-action movie of Coraline (thousands of fans want to see this happen) and we gotta start a petition. The live-action movie should be just like the one in this "Unwinding the web" live-action scene and they should call Riley Madison Fuller's parents and have this girl over for "auditions" (she should get the part hands down) and have her parents sign a contract. If someone can make a Coraline live-action film works, it's this girl. She's cute and talented enough to play Coraline in a live-action movie. They should make a live-action Coraline movie and hire this girl to play Coraline. She's perfect for the part (and I think she's about the same age as Coraline, eleven-twelvish years old). Mimi. (PS) (Brittany Thurman, how about YOU start the petition for a Coraline live-action movie and convince the folks at Laika to green light the project? I bet your voice carries a lot of weight. If it didn't, Laika wouldn't have let you do this live-action scene and post it on their channel. Thousands of fans would be very thankful if you tried your darndest best to make a Coraline live-action movie happen.)
I don’t know- it would be like doing a live action Paranorman. The charm was from how wild and innovative the stop motion was- it adds to the creep factor. I don’t wanna see a cheap cgi other mother that clearly isn’t in the same room- or an ugly cgi cat that talks- no thank u. Now…if they ever did a live action corpsebride THEN we could talk! (That movie is great- I adore it but most can agree the writting isn’t perfect and could use a live action to tell a better plot and story).
@harmonylynx252 Agreed; the appeal of coraline is *because* it was animated. Theres no practical way of improving upon the movie by making the same thing in a new medium, so Laika is better off pouring their resources into what they do best: animated film.
That jump scare ending got me so bad I forgot this was a short! After that I want to see more of this version of Coraline!! This production is a worthy gift for the 15th anniversary of the Laika film!! 👏

The vibe reminds me of the 90's show Are you Afraid of the Dark. I would definitely watch a live action Coraline done by Alfonso Cuaron or Guillermo del Toro.
Wow, this was incredibly well done! My favorite part was seeing the first interior shot of the flashlight shining throughout the theater. It is important to understand how dauntingly large it really seems. That was captured perfectly, as well as the ominous sense throughout. The alluring display of everything was truly amazing!
If they ever do a live action, it would be a good detail to change some things to the book version, that way it would not be the same exact thing, the fans can enjoy even more moments of the “oh, I got the reference” and nobody can complain about the story being completely changed.
This proved to me that Laika made the right decision the first time in making the movie stop motion. This vision of Coraline gave me Dora the Explorer/Lazy Town vibes. Please Laika, don’t start re-making your films with humans. It’s admirable that with this you have created a true live action sequence (whereas Disney, touts their remakes as live-action when they are nothing but 90% computer generated clones) but remaking films with humans is just a gimmick. You’ve already told the story exquisitely well. No need to do it again to cash in.
