Deborah is probably the best R&B singer to come out of Canada. I recommend checking out some of her other songs like "Who do U Love" and "Beautiful U R"
She was lucky enough to get US recording deal (with Clive Davis), the only other Canadian R & B female I know that got a US recording deal, was Melaine Fiona. But I wouldn't put them ahead of Liberty Silver or Divine Brown.
One of the most underrated artists. She is amazing. Her songs are amazing. Her dance songs and remixes are fantastic. The dance remix of this song will have you out of your seats.
This was the joint back in the 90's....she was definitely an underrated artist along with Sunshine Anderson "Heard It All Before", Blu Cantrell "Hit Em' Up Style", Sparkle "Be Careful" and so on....😉
Written by Montell Jordan for Patti LaBelle, who turned it down. She said she regretted it after hearing Deborah Cox sing it. You can kinda hear how it was written for Patti. I can hear her singing it.
This is the good R&B from the '90s, '00s. This one is more on the slower soulful, jazzy & romantic side, also known as Quiet Storm. R&B had some good stuff during the '70s, '80s, '90s, and '00s. Deborah Cox other hits during the '90s and '00s were "Who Do U Love?", "Its Over Now", "Beautiful U R:. , etc . Watch/listen to the videos /songs on those.
When this song was released I myself had 'tried that love thing for the last time' and this song gutted AND comforted me. Debra's breathy believability and emotion kept me on the planet.
I love this song. I bought the cd back in the day when it first came out. She has a duet with another singer named R.L called “we can’t be friends “. They both sing their asses off. Love the song and it’s a great video. Her voice is beautiful.
Yessssssssssssss Deborah Cox is one of my all time favorites . Such a POWERHOUSE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. You should check out all of her songs. Also Vivian Green Emotional Rollercoaster. Jay you were in the zone. Deborah Cox's voice is like a butter you want more and more. Thanks for checking her out. Amber just like you I feel her power deep down in my soul. Absolutely beautiful reaction Guys. Love You keep grinding. 🥰🥰
Deborah Cox has become one of the most respected performers in the EDM genres of progressive house and trance and is considered a queen in all the the dance capitals across the world . I have seen her perform live both in Ibiza and Tel Aviv . She has been re- mixed by some of the best dj s' in the world .
I remember I saw Deborah cox in concert at the Hampton Coliseum in 95'. The concert was called the Jam Fest, it had other artists including Biggie smalls. I remember too that me and my fiance at the time was trying to walk through a crowd of people to get closer to the stage, It was awesome.
This song was Deborah Cox's one and only r&b crossover hit ever. The song peaked at the #2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and stayed at there for 8 weeks in a row back in 1998. But the song did peaked at #1 spot on the Billboard Black Single chart for 4 weeks in a row. A great and powerful song indeed!!!
Yay, thanks for playing this! I absolutely LOVE this song - one of my all time favorites! The song was written for Patti Labelle but when Deborah Cox sang it for the songwriter and producers they loved it and decided to let her record it. I love Pattie Labelle too but I can't imagine anyone else singing this song. If you like this you should check out "Superwoman" by Karyn White. It's from 1988 - so, so good! Other women/songs for Female Friday - Bette Midler "Stay with Me" (vintage video edition) and Macy Gray "I Try" or "Still", both from her 1999 album "On How Life Is" (the whole album is excellent really). Berlin, with lead singer, Terrie Nunn, has been around since the 70s and have tons of great music. I think my favorite album is Pleasure Victim with my favorite song being "The Metro". Jennifer Holiday's performance of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" on the Tony's from 1982 is excellent. I saw this on the original broadcast and I remember having goosebumps. I never forgot it. Still gives me goosebumps and makes me tear up. It's been remade by any number of artists since but to me this will always be the best performance of it.
Y'all. Don't sleep on 90s R&B. You've got to check out more En Vogue, plus SWV, Jodeci, Toni Braxton, Brownstone, Aaliyah, Brian McKnight, Johnny Gill, Sounds of Blackness, and more. It was a golden age of R&B.
I forget off the top of my head if you guys have listened to Toni Braxton on the channel, but if not you definitely should! Unbreak My Heart and He Wasn't Man Enough are a couple of my fave Toni Braxton songs.
I read an article that said this song was offered to Beyonce but she turned it down. I can't imagine anyone singing this song but Debra Cox now! You have to react to Angela Winbush "Angel" And to take it back even a bit farther Sylvia "Pillow Talk". She created Sugarhill Records (Sugarhill Gang, Grandmaster Flash & the Furious 5). Yep, the very first independent rap label!
She has 1 of the most gifted voices from god You wanna hear another song with her Any song by Deborah Cox you gonna love but the 1 she does what Whitney Houston Same script different cast Talk about 2 powerhouses
One of my all-time favorite songs! Perfect from beginning to end! The instrumentation of her voice & the jazz w/music in the background is amazing too, there are some very cool dance mixes of this song that you should check out😊
There was a show called motown live and if u really want to here what Deborah can do look for that same song on that show .. that lady will blow your mind.
Canada's own!!! So happy to see Ms. Cox on your channel. Not surprised y'all are in love already, she is amazing! I listen to the dance remix of this song all the time. At one point very early on in her career she was a backup singer for Celine but someone like this had to be destined for more. Please react to her songs "Who Do U Love," "We Can't Be Friends (with RL)," and "Beautiful U R."
Such a beautiful song by Deborah saying she's given up on love, but she gets reeled back in. We Can't Be Friends Who do U Love Absolutely Not Mr. Lonely This song spent 14 weeks at Number 1 for 19 weeks. She was the first Canadian 🇨🇦 to top the R&B charts. Deborah's beautiful voice is so easy to listen to. Great reaction. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Love that you're reacting to a song from the late 90s. I absolutely adore Deborah Cox and this song. Now you need to hear the remix, which is probably among my top 5 dance tunes. That version of her song brought everyone out on the dance floor!
I was in love with this woman. 😍 She started out with lots of midtempo jams but this was a great ballad. Another in this vein: "I Wish," by Heather Headley. 😍
Jay and Amber, I just love this channel and your reactions to MY music 60's, 70's and 80's. By the 90's, which I absolutely loved the music, I was considered old. I listened to great music daily on the radio. My generation was blessed. So I'm going to recommend for FEMALE FRIDAY , ( MICHEL LE , pronounced Misha lay ) " SOMETHING IN MY HEART ". This is top 5 love song of ALL TIME.
Ms. Deborah Cox, thank you for your gorgeous, perfect soundtrack while courting the most incredible woman of my life. Fresh from combat... I met my Angel, she saved me from myself... And your voice was there, thank you. 🙏🏻🤟
Deborah is an icon in the "Club Scene" greatly prominent in "the Gay Club scene" Nobody's Suppose to be Here" "Things just aint the same" "Everybody Dance" are all remixed to perfection and was at the top of the Dance Charts for months - Iconic. This was around the time when DJ would take ballads and remix, Toni Braxton, "Unbreak my Heart" Classic Mix, Tamia "Stranger in my House" ALL of Whitney Songs from her "Heart Break Hotel Album, 'Learned From The best" IT aint right but its ok" Great Great Times.

I just discovered your channel when I was searching for this song. I'm a mid 80s baby so when this song came out I was in my predating years and I felt this song. 2 decades later it still rings true. Deborah Cox also sings the Vocals for a lot of the Whitney Houston movies since Whitney transferred. You all should do the song "Big White Room" by Jessie J. Her vocals floored me the first time I heard that song
Great pick! You should watch the live duet, Deborah Cox and Tamia. During the pandemic they sang it beautifully from their homes. Such an amazing collaboration!!
Deborah Cox is pretty amazing singer. She has a dance version of this song where she really unleashes her vocal power. Her live performances on award shows have brought people to their feet every time. And even last year she performed this live and she still sounds incredible.
Listen the 90s for me was similar to the 70s when it came to soulful music and poetry in lyrics,,Please go into the vault and find more classics,,, 2000s only has its POWER due to what the 90s restarted.. although ms Anita Baker fame began in the 80s she had some chart hitters in the 90s starting with BODY &SOUL..check it out
You guys might also love listening to artists like Vivian Green, Teedra Moses, Amel Larrieux, Lauryn Hill, Faith Evans, Jill Scott, Tamia, Adina Howard, Monifah, Shanice, Tracey Spencer. All of these women were spectacular singers of the 90s, and early 2000s. I'm sure many others agree and will suggest any number of great songs by them to you guys. Have a blessed day you two. :)
Hey since Rob says he likes Brian McKnight, I would love love to see you guy's reaction Take 6 "Spread Love". Six man acapella gospel group where I believe Brian McKnigh has a brother as a member. I swear you will be singing this in your head for days after hearing it.
You couldn't go in a gay club in the 90s without hearing a Deborah Cox mix. She brings the drama that we adore. She is incredible and it's so great to see her get some love.
I have to admit, I first heard the thunderpuss remix in the clubs and instantly I was hooked. Packed the dance floors, guaranteed!!!! Deborah is an icon and music royalty as far as I’m concerned 👑👑👑👑👑 I still have the 12” vinyl and on my playlist till this day. I think the remix would still fill the dance floors today in 2023 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

There’s a DANCE VERSION! Also check out Sentimental and We Can’t Be Friends with RL of the group N.E.X.T.
Another wonderful R&B Canadian - Tamia

Yeah. You got to give her credit, she tore that song up. I haven't heard many Deborah Cox songs I don't think. But I definitely remember that one.
Reminiscent of the Motown sound. 😃

The dance mix is amazing. It was playing at the discos in the early 2000’s.
This was one of my favorite R&B songs of the late 90s.
I remember being a teen and watching the video. That part when she is walking away and the way the dress move when she walk. Wow!
