    Thanks for making this video. My first set of chicks are two weeks old today. How long will you leave yours in the new brooder before putting in a coop?

    • @BockBockBouquet
      @BockBockBouquet  2 года назад +3

      Congratulations on your chicks! We like to let our chicks grow up in a pen side by side with the flock we will be integrating them into. We put a grow out pen in the coop/run and let them spend the next month growing up while seeing each other. Unable to fight through the fence. We think the best age to release and add the chicks into the flock is when they are 2.5-3 months old. We are not doing that with these chicks because as much as we just love them, they were hatched for others. We rehome them to our clients when they are 8 weeks old and are coop ready to begin integrating into their flocks. We have a video on the 3 steps we take to integrate chicks into a flock I’ll link below. With these methods we have the smoothest integration with the least fights possible

    Do chickens sneeze? I think one of my Bar Rocks sneezed this morning.

    • @BockBockBouquet
      @BockBockBouquet  2 года назад +1

      Yes they do, it could just be nothing to worry about maybe they inhaled some dust as chickens have very sensitive respiratory systems. Or it could be something more alarming, there are many poultry respiratory diseases, but your chickens would appear lethargic and ill, have bubbly eyes or runny noses. Also can swell their sinus cavities and eyes. Hopefully it was just a regular sneeze. Let us know if you need more help or additional information

    • @baddogcustoms7496
      @baddogcustoms7496 6 месяцев назад

      Chicken bronchitis is the most common respiratory issue with chickens, and for young chickens that can bring death pretty quick older chickens is just like the common cold if one sneezes another one could get it, or may not. It’s also been proven that baby chicks who don’t eat the embryo out of their egg shells have a much much weaker immune system, so are more likely to get sick and such.

    Is that quick chik/vinegar in the water or something similar? Seems very concentrated for such old chicks. Just wondering

    • @BockBockBouquet
      @BockBockBouquet  2 года назад +1

      It is 1 of the sav-a-chick electrolyte packets. And it’s a 2.5 gallon waterer, come to think about it, it’s actually diluted because one packet is per gallon lol. Their new packets mixes very bright orange. We used to use Quik Chik and it mixed as a more muted yellow color. I thought these were very bright as well. Since we hatched these chicks, and they weren’t under any shipping stress we had them on plain water since hatch, only a few times giving probiotics. But since it can’t hurt and with this move to a new area, thought to combat any stress with some electrolytes 😊

    Is the quikrete safe for the chicken? It doesn’t have concrete in it does it? I’ve been wanting to try it but not sure

    • @BockBockBouquet
      @BockBockBouquet  2 года назад +1

      Quikrete the brand also sells sand, it doesn’t have concrete in it. Just make sure it’s construction sand (coarse or medium) is safe for chickens. Play box sand is too fine and dusty it can damage their respiratory systems. If for a small area buying this little 50lb bags is fine, or you can go to one of those construction yards and buy the sand by the truckloads. They also have ton bags at the hardware stores. It’s very easy to clean and keeps their feet very clean. I scoop it like kitty litter

      @@BockBockBouquet great info thanks for the reply to this other comment but I have another question to add to it so let’s say that I live five miles from the ocean and have beach sand readily available. Is that a good thing because it’s all natural or is that a very bad thing because it’s from the beach??

    • @BockBockBouquet
      @BockBockBouquet  Год назад

      You must try to break the behavior by allowing him to forget he enjoys attacking you. As silly as it seems just do your best to not let him attack you by watching him and tip toeing around him. After awhile of not attacking it will break the habit he’ll forget he likes to do it.
