How to recover the data from external raw hard drive?
Hard Drive becomes raw when its file system gets damaged, which in turns makes it impossible for the operating system to access it. A RAW file system simply means that it is a file system that is not recognized by windows.
If you check the properties, it will show there is no data present. I Had hard drive with me in which i had lot of important data. But all of a sudden one day when i plugged in and tried to access it it pops up with this.
F:\ is not accessible.
The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
Or
You need to format the disk in drive F: before you can use it.
Do you want to format it?
So if you want to recover the data from this HDD do not click on Format Disk.
Go to the properties and see the space available.
Go to Computer management and you will see the file system is RAW.
Reason for this are as below.
1. The most common reason of External HDD suddenly becoming RAW is if they are disconnected from a Computer or Laptop without using "Safely Remove Hardware" option. Which often available here on the bottom right corner when you connect any external device.
2. Other reason includes a power failure or a computer that temporary disconnect the USB hubs and there are many reasons.
Its not possible access this RAW Disk and access the data contained in it. However if you follow the steps here you will surely recover the lost data.
As I said earlier also, before we start the recovery process, do not format the drive.
Now to the www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizard/recover-raw-drive.htm site and download the following utility : EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard for windows and install it. Next steps you can follow by watching the video itself. In this way you can recover all of the data that is present in this RAW Hdd.

But I did the whole thing or process twice and still dont see the recovered data, I really disappointed because I used my last penny to pay for the unlimmited data recovery software because I trusted it and wanted to acces the data! I need it ..
Manelisi Billy That's strange. Have you followed the exact steps shown in the video? You must be able to recover the files....

You have to purchase the software for recovery. Don't use it. Instead go to the command prompt and enter chkdsk /f x: and press enter.
x stands for your corrupt disk name. Your all data will be recovered. I have tried and all my data is completely recovered. Thank you.

good job on walking us through this. One question though, I can open my external hd and open every folder except one. I get that same message you showed: "the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". Do I need to proceed the same way to get my data on this one last folder back as showed here?

There is an option "Trim On" is Ease US if it is on the recovered files can't be viewable hence make sure before starting recovering "Trim" is OFF....This trick I have found after struggling a lot.
The problem with easeus is that rcovered files are unreadable the metadata is gone if it's a large 1 TB or more it's near impossible to sort them all out.

here's the deal ...the program pretended to work ,,,, it did not work ...I bought a key it just didnt work , I had an older professional version ..and it ran 378 hours and without prompting restarted my computer ..I ran it 2 more times 430 hours and restarted without prompting , 470 hours and restarted without prompting 0 was recovered ... I demanded my money back they played games ... I told them I'd see them in Court , and I doubt you will show up in Court ... EaseUS found a lot of my lost files but then I realized that they only do 2 GB for free. I've got a 250 GB damaged portable drive. Then they want $80 to get the data back. Now this is after an hour or more of time mapping the drive.......Still looking for a free solution to get my family photos and videos back........

Villa Chhunkry You can still use the same software for recovering any data from Formatted Hard Drive. I believe it should recover the data. The data should be in LOST folder after you scan the HDD. Let me know if that helps. Thanks :)

Thank you! Super helpful! I didn't have to buy the program and was still able to recover 130 GB of data. I ran the deep scan through the trial program and saved the image. I disconnected the device, and then reconnected. Windows 10 was able to see all the files after doing so. There were some corrupt files, but at least I was able to get the chkdsk to run and fix the errors just by doing the deep scan. I was almost about to pay more than $200 dollars to recover the data. My drive only shows up in the Lost Disk Drives area not the Hard Disk Drives area. what does that mean?

Hi, please help, when I scan my 2nd HDD here inside my laptop with easeus it appears but as "LOST PARTITION" in color yellow. And when I start to scan it just scans and scans saying "0 files found" and "trying to jump bad sectors". I left it like that for around 6 hours and it is still saying that. What are my options from here?

I followed your step and when i select my External Hard Disc(Local Disc F:) (in your video 3:16).
When i clicked "Scan" The (F:) doesnt show any files (its totally empty),nothing for me to recover, or i cant even click on the "recover" button.
I didnt format my RAW HDD.
What should i do ?

aritra chakraborty Did you try to recover the data from this HDD using the method shown in the video? If yes and still you are not able to resolve your issue then there are two possibility.
1) Either the HDD is corrupted or
2) The connection is loose in the HDD External CASE Cover.
I don't think the HDD is corrupted as you said that it shows un-allocated space under Disk Management. So try to recover the data from this RAW HDD and then format it with NTFS file System.
If the issue is with External Case Cover, then you can try replacing it. Again you will have to buy the external case for your HDD depending on size (2'5 or 3'5) of the HDD.
I would suggest to recover the data and format it first. Let me know if that helps. :)
+Techno Math ease us recovery is showing a blank disc without the capacity details like 1.82tb..and under lost hrd drives in yellow as mentioned in this video..it shows 1.82tb..but under lost hard drives

SON_GHOKU_RBC It takes a lot of time to scan the data. For me it took almost 10 hours. Would suggest you to wait for couple of hours.
Most of the data recovered by these software are sometimes still not of use because the files which gets recovered dont work the way they use to work earlier.....so in that case what is the proper solution for these situation

I've got an issue and my CHKDSK /f L: seems to get stuck and has different lettering. Here is the message I am getting:
"The type of file system is NTFS.
Volume labe is Maxtor external hdd.
Corrupt master file table. Windows will attempt to recover master file table from disk.
And... then nothing happens after this message shows up. No message, no prompts... just dead air for a while. After a few minutes go by, I get this message:
"Windows cannot recover master file table. CHKDSK aborted"

My problem is that when I plug in my hard drive, I can access a few folders, but then when I try to open a file or subfolder it gives me this message X:/folder is not accessible. The device is not ready.
I can still see the storage space of my hard drive and when I try to do chkdsk, it says that my hard drive is a RAW drive even though in the description, it says NTFS. I tried to use this software you recommended and it will take 2 hours and 30 minutes to scan. It's been awhile now and it still hasn't found any files. Is that normal? Okay, so it took a total of 9 hours to scan but it hasn't detected any files. Not even a single one. :( Is there any other way to recover my files?

it scans fine but my 500gb hard disk is taking more than 24hours and still it isnt completed.. my harddisk contains more than 60k files. the scan shows only 30k found till now.. this is frustrating. i just need to recover videos. can i recover specifically ?

Do you have any advice to recover data lost from a CHKDSK scan? Two days ago I allowed my computer to do a scan and it deleted hundreds of GB of important files. I've tried EaseUs and Recuva and both of them found none of the deleted files.
Have you got anything back? Chkdsk completely obliterated a SD card and mucked up another one so i never use it for those now, but trying it for a raw external hard drive just brings up: "the type of the file system is NTSF Unable to determine volume version & state. chkdsk aborted" so chkdsk is not the be all and end all of solutions that some people thing it is.
use live linux on a cd/dvd. you boot from live linuxcd/dvd and copy files to external hd etc
Not gonna lie I had to pay to get the files but it def did what it promised! I got a new camera that takes ssd and when I plugged it into my computer and it said I had to format the card which scared me to my core! Yet $46 later I do have the files I needed.
