  • Hello and welcome back.
Join us as we venture into one of the last Edens in the world-the magnificent Okavango Delta.
The life-giving waters from the Angolan Highlands have not yet reached the outer edges of this vast wilderness. Here in Moremi, the land feels poised on the brink of change……and for some animals, nature has dealt a cruel hand, as they endure the harsh wait for the floodwaters to arrive.
Come with us as we explore this fragile paradise, a last Eden teetering on the edge of heaven.
    At third Bridge
It is a slow morning, and we embrace the gentle cadence of slowing down and appreciating the moment indulging in the therapeutic act of baking bread in the bush-a simple task that demands patience, care, and presence.
Out here, a million miles from anywhere, there’s something profoundly rewarding about cooking over an open fire. The smell of fresh bread wafting through the camp is a small triumph, a reminder of life’s simple pleasures.
Our afternoon drive takes us to Dead Tree Island. The sound of seagulls catches our attention, drawing us to the water’s edge.
Much like the great migration in the Masai Mara, this is the Fish Eagle gathering. Nature, in its infinite wisdom, has orchestrated this perfect moment.
It’s the driest time in the Delta, and the catfish are confined to the last remaining pools of water, struggling desperately for survival. The Fish Eagles, seize this fleeting opportunity, preying upon the vulnerable catfish.
It’s a humbling reminder of how every moment in nature, no matter how harsh, has its place in the grand design. A balance of survival, sacrifice, and renewal.
No matter how often we find ourselves in the middle of nowhere the yearning to be in nature is a constant feeling.
It’s always a challenge to get here in our faithfull truck, but we are acutely aware of this privilege to escape the hustle of the real world
And …As the golden light washes over the delta we dial down and tune in,
    and get lost in time.
Our days in Moremi are consumed exploring and searching for game.
The rhythm of getting up before sunrise and returning to base at sunset is a good one.
Of course we would like to see a lion or two while we are still in circulation.
Our days in Moremi are consumed by the thrill of exploring and the quiet patience of searching for game. The rhythm of rising before sunrise and returning to base at sunset feels natural, grounding us in the cadence of the wild.
Our days in Moremi are defined by the rhythm of the wild-early mornings before sunrise and evenings returning to camp as the sun dips below the horizon.
Of course, we still hope to see a lion or two in Moremi.
In the meantime, the Delta delivers its own magic-an abundance of animals and birdlife rarely experienced anywhere else. This is a true paradise.
A troop of Chacma baboons is always a joy to watch -. Spend a little time observing them, and you’ll start spotting personalities that resemble ours.
Their social structures are fascinatingly complex. There’s patriarch, tasked with protecting and defending the clan. Then, of course, the troublemaking teenagers, always pushing boundaries and stirring up drama. And let’s not forget the little ones, clinging tightly to their mothers, ever in need of a helping hand.
And then…We Witness and extraordinary scene - Hippos on the move, like fish out of water in broad daylight, is a rare and fascinating sight. The 1,600 kilometer journey of water from the Angolan Highlands is taking too long, leaving the hippos high and dry, with no choice but to seek out the last remaining pools in the Delta.
If you’re enjoying these episodes, why not give that like button a little tap, share with your friends, and hit subscribe-it’s free, and it keeps the RUclips algorithm happy (and us too!).
Show us some love by leaving a comment; it’s the fuel that keeps us going to bring you more adventures. Thanks for tagging along on the journey!
The Okavango Delta is a vast, life-filled oasis in the heart of the Kalahari Desert, one of the most unique and biodiverse ecosystems on Earth.
This seasonal transformation turns the region into a paradise for wildlife, including elephants, lions, buffalo, and countless species of birds, all drawn to the water and the rich vegetation it supports.
Okavango is a place where life thrives in harmony with the elements, offering a rare glimpse into nature’s raw beauty and its ability to create life in the most unexpected places.
Our stay here has been unforgettable and we will return.

Very beautiful place Third bridge. We stayed there in 2023 n we used the same chalet for accommodation. Cooking outside was wow.
We had a regular hyena visitor every evening for the three nights we were there.

For those who want to know - Veronica Roodt was a prominent conservationist, researcher, and author who spent over three decades living and working in Botswana’s Moremi Game Reserve. Originally from South Africa, she devoted her life to studying the flora, fauna, and ecology of the Okavango Delta. Roodt was deeply involved in nature conservation, contributing significantly to Botswana’s tourism industry through her research and publications, which became essential resources for safari guides and wildlife enthusiasts.
Her works include detailed maps and guidebooks such as The Shell Tourist Map of Moremi Game Reserve, and educational books like Grasses and Grazers of Botswana and Trees and Shrubs of the Okavango Delta: Medicinal Uses and Nutritional Value. These publications highlight her expertise in local ecosystems and the relationships between plants, animals, and humans.
Roodt lived alone in a remote bush camp within Moremi, where she conducted her research and wrote extensively. Her life in the wild embodied her passion for conservation and her dedication to preserving the unique environment of the Delta. She passed away in 2022 at the age of 65, at her camp, surrounded by the landscape she cherished .

The ER has been rather hectic lately but that makes you dream of some new adventures in the bush to find that true “soul tonic”! Although your gin tonic was also lovely under the moremi stars 😊 Are you planning to go up to Angola in a group or do you think it is safe enough to go with one car? Angola is definately on the bucket list, but with the building of our house it will probably be 2026. Hope to meet you again in the bush for a nice chatty catty evening! Kind regards, Julien&Michelle

@julienvanoosten5177 nothing like the bite of reality to make one dream of wild and wonderful places, where the modern world doesn’t intrude. We are quite happy adventuring on our own, but not adverse to “good company”.
