Potentially helpful tip regarding decal application: Try using a heat gun / hair dryer to soften the decals during the application process. This makes them more pliable so they conform to complex curves. Just be careful with the amount of heat applied as it can ruin your decals.

Regarding the fins, I use a brush. Spray some of the paint into the corner of the lid, then brush the paint into the fins. I would also block them off if I was going to paint a different colour on the body so you don't get shadows in there.

    Agree 100% regarding the rc
    'dust magnets' Gavin!
What a pig of a job.....
I spent the best part of a day dusting /detailing my shelf queens and display racks over xmas! 😬
Interested in the methods you use bearing in mind the extreme size of your collection?
I generally use a soft clean paintbrush on the chassis and wheels.
I then use an old soft t shirt to get the worst of the dust off the body shells, followed by a thorough polish using a duster that's been sprayed with automotive cockpit shine(simoniz, auto glym etc)
This brings up a gorgeous deep shine, and also reduces static which stops the dust clinging to the plastic and re settling.
A bit OTT? Maybe..... but they look delightful once finished! 👌
    👍 👍 👍

I just go at it with air duster, furniture polish for the shelves and a damp warm wet cloth. Nothing fancy but I try and keep on top of it so the cars never get really bad.

Hi. I hate precut decal sheets as well, but I figured out a way to work with it. I cut each out as if they were not cut (like a typical Tamiya sheet) capturing the pre-cut line plus 1-2 mm of extra material. I then remove the outer edging from the pre-cut line and I have the entire decal on the backing material that can be applied like a Tamiya one. Try it :)

  • @AddamsPlayground

Yeah I hate decals on compound curves like that, they are never fun! It did turn out great and I don't blame you for not wanting to ding it up as I wouldn't want to do another one either!! Take care and I hope you feel better soon!!!

I have never seen this box in person, so I cannot say for sure, but from what you mentioned in the video (somewhere between acid yellow and green), it may be something close to the Citron Yella/Curious Yellow of the Dodge/Plymouth muscle cars.

  • @superjimnz

I really don't like pre-cut decals for exactly the reason you discovered here, but you can still cut them out on the backing and then just trim pieces of backing away.

With the extra wing and the extra stickers the inside of the rear wing stanchions look too busy, I’d cut some black vinyl to shape and continue the black accents to the stanchions. Oh and the red E sticker should be the other way up, it’s so marshalls can set off extinguishers but only your driver can read it! 😉

Applying decals is an under-appreciated art. It often looks so simple but in reality it is sometimes the hardest part of a kit build. A lot of the time you only get one chance and if you get one slightly wonky the look of the completed car is ruined. I remember fitting decals to my 190E Evo II with Koenig Pilsener livery. It is black with narrow silver lines all over the body that must align around the whole body even though everything is in 3D. Total and utter nightmare to complete and I would say near impossible to do a satisfactory job. After the work to build the kit the end result left me rather disappointed despite my best efforts.

Gav, I have I have said it before and will say it again... The Fantom series is fantastic, small 4x4 1/12 scales perform so well and would be a blast to race. My experience from the normal 2WD 1/12 racing is that they are one of the more challenging RC racing classes so will always be fairly niche. Kyosho just needs to update the driveline like they have done with others in the legendary series, the chain may be authentic but it is naff when it comes to reliability and maintenance plus it can be a challenge for occasional kit builders.

one of my pet peeves is that these companies re-issue the cars and then put a crappo statement in the instructions like: "paint using box-art as guide". How hard is it to say, "Kyosho CT12 yellow" or even recommend a Tamiya paint?

    • @RCKickschannel
      @RCKickschannel  8 месяцев назад

The CRC2 isn’t so bad as you can do gold or a translucent yellow and gold mix but the 60th Mid Prototype was more of a challenge due to the box art rim colour and having to match that up.
